Studies of Used to Forest Product by Dayak Meratus Tribe in the Forest Area of Meratus Mountain, Hulu Sungai Tengah Regency
Dayak Meratus tribe is the native tribe that lives in the forest area of Meratus Mountain. Biological basic data on plant biodiversity in the area, particularly plants utilized by Dayak Meratus tribe, have not been much discovered. The research are: (1) to discover the traditional characteristic and knowledge of Dayak Meratus tribe, (2) to determine the priority of plants to be conserved, (3) to study local government policy in the forest resources management and, (4) to determine the strategy of priority plants conservation. Research was conducted at Meratus Mountain forest area, Hulu Sungai Tengah Regency and Herbarium Bogoriense, Biological Research and Development Center of LIPI, Bogor, from July to September 2002. Determination of priority plants is based on 4 criteria: (1) Index of Cultural Significance that consists of three value, that are: quality of use, intensity of use, exclusivity of use, (2) Distribution, (3) Status in the nature area (wild, semi domesticated, domesticated/cultivated), and (4) the characteristic of use/utilization by the community (commercial, subsistence). The number of plant species used by Dayak Meratus Tribe is 240 species of 18 use characteristic, 2 species endemic, 14 species rare, 111 species have more than one utilization function, 20 medicinal plants can be used as a consideration in changing the status of protected forest to conservation areas with status of national park
Analisis Karakteristik Permukiman Desa-Desa Pesisir di Kabupaten Kulonprogo
Settlement is the most important area in the activity of disaster mitigation. The Biggest detriment caused by disaster is generally placed at the settlement or residential area. Thereby, the identification of the settlement characteristics is required to be able to recognize the disaster risk. This research aim to identify the characteristics of the rural settlement on the coastal area in the District of Kulonprogo. This area is chosen based on the consideration of coastal morphological characters. This area have slopeslightly coastal zone which face to Indonesian Ocean. In this situation, hence in the event of tidal wave, there will be wide spread overflowing run up water. Two approaches is used in this research, they are; (1) Morphological Approach, and (2) Behaviour Approach. Both of the approaches is conducted with comparative perspective. The existance of the settlement which have been filtered through settlement and coastal tipology are compared. The data are collected and analyzed through: (1) Mapping and GIS tools; (2) survey method; (3) Indepth interview; and (4) statistical analysis. Thirty household are selected proportionally to setlement unit as a respondent in indepth interview. In order to analyze the data, descriptive analysis (frequency tables) and crossed tables are used. This research indicate that rural settlements on the coastal area in the District of Kulonprogo are spatialy distributed as a ribbon pattern. This pattern are coincident with the shape of the coast and the linearity of the road as well. Most of the buildings are in good condition, and they characterized by moderate housing density. In the term of coastal morphology, the research area is dominated by sandy coast with slopeslightly relief. Generally, the socio economic condition of the peoples living there are low to medium economic level, low education, and rarely medium income. Related to tidal flood vulnerability, this research area is the second level (moderate) hazardeous zone
Perkembangan Kondisi Demografi dan Sosial-Ekonomi di Kotamadya Yogyakarta Beserta Implikasinya untuk Pengembangan Fasilitas Kota
Tulisan ini bertujuan menunjukkan perubaban demografis di Kotamadia Yogyakarta dan sekttarnya agar supaya dapat mengidentifikasi masing-masing konsekuensinya pada perencanaan fasilitas pelayanan. Data yang digunakan dalam tulisan ini berasal dari berbagai sumber, utamanya dari sensus penduduk tabun 1980, 1990 dan dokumen-dokumen lainnya. Dinamisasi penduduk dideteksi dari berbagai macam variabel perkembangan (ukuran, kepadatan, ukuran rumah tangga, struktur, pekerjaan dan pendidikan) pada dua dekade terakhir dimana dapat memberikan gagasan kasar dari arab dimana fasilitas-fasilitas pelayanan dikembangkan. Beberapa penyesuaian pada strategi-strategi pengembangan sektoral pada dekade berikutnya perlu dipertimbangkan sebagai sesuatu yang penting agar supaya dapat mengantisipasi dampak demografis dari perubaban demografis akhir-akhir ini
Using 3D-Var Data Assimilation for Improving the Accuracy of Initial Condition of Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) Model in Java Region (Case Study : 23 January 2015)
Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) is a numerical weather prediction model developed by various parties due to its open source, but the WRF has the disadvantage of low accuracy in weather prediction. One reason of low accuracy of model is inaccuracy initial condition model to the actual atmospheric conditions. Techniques to improve the initial condition model is the observation data assimilation. In this study, we used three-dimensional variational (3D-Var) to perform data assimilation of some observation data. Observational data used in data assimilation are observation data from basic stations, non-basic stations, radiosonde data, and The Binary Universal Form for the Representation of meteorological data (BUFR) data from the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) , and aggregate observation data from all stations. The aim of this study compares the effect of data assimilation with different data observation on January 23, 2015 at 00.00 UTC for Java island region. The results showed that changes root mean square error (RMSE) of surface temperature from 2° C to 1.7° C - 2.4° C, dew point from 2.1o C to 1.9o C - 1.4o C, relative humidity from 16.1% to 3.5% - 14.5% after the data assimilation
Characterizing the Urban Growth from 1975 to 2003 of Hanoi City Using Remote Sensing and a Spatial Metric
This study explores an approach of combining remote sensing and a spatial metric to characterize land use change in Hanoi, Vietnam. The work is based on the land cover information of 4 different times derived from Landsat and ASTER data from 1975 to 2003. This study adopted the spatial metrics; the percentage of like adjacency (PLADJ), which calculates the number of like adjacencies involving the focal class, divided by the focal number of cell adjacencies involving the focal class, multiplied by 100 to convert to a percentage. The result successfully showed proportions of the fragmented and the aggregated areas in urbanization for each development time. During the rapid urbanization periods in 1975 – 1984 and 1984 – 1992, a large proportion of the interior non developed and aggregated non developed was converted to developed landscape, whereas fragmented non developed to developed markedly happened in 2001 – 2003. The study provided intuitive description and separation of three urbanization patterns such as infill, expansion, and outlying. Quantitative assessment revealed that the proportion of the expansion and infill steadily increased, whereas the proportion of the outlying decreased in past 30 years. The combined approach using remote sensing and a spatial metric is an effective method to improve understanding of urbanization patterns and to provide visualization of spatial – temporal change due to urbanization
Analysis Landslide Hazard in Banjarmangu Sub District, Banjarnegara District
The objective of the research is to find the most suitable soil conservation practice that may be applied to control landslide hazard. In order to achieve that objective, some research steps must be done, are: (1) to identify the land characteristics of the study area that is based on the understanding of some factors that caused and triggered the landslide hazard, i.e.: slope morphology, rocks/soils characteristics, climatic condition, and landuse; (2) to study the types of landslide that occurs in every landforms and determine the area having ideal landslide form; The proposed landslide in this research is the process of masswasting down-slope as a result of the gravitation action on materials being sliding. The landslide types is including creep, slide, slump, and rocks/soils fall. The methods that being applied in the research include field survey methods and the method for determining landslide hazard by using geographic information techniques. Field survey method was intended to characterize the location of every landslide that have been happened in the study area. The results of field survey were applied as materials for determinating the grade of landslide hazard. Scorring and weighting methods of factors that influence landslide was apllied to determine the grade of landslide hazard. Scor and weight were not same for every parameters used for evaluation. The result of field research shows that landslide happen in every landform unit The study area can be devided into 9 landform unit. The landform units are differentiated into the landslide hazard classes, the study area there were found 5 classes of landslide hazard, namely: (1) vary low hazard equal to 16,65% (1 landform unit); (2) low hazard equal to 7,63% (1 landform unit); (3) medium hazard equal to 37,58% (3 landform unit); (4) high hazard equal to 25,41% (2 landforms unit); and (5) highest hazard equal to 12,73% (2 landform unit). Evaluation of landslide hazard shows hat most of study area have high risk to slide as a result of complex interaction between many factors of landslide
Estimate of Changes in Carbon Stocks Based on Land Cover Changes in the Leuser Ecosystem Area (LEA) Indonesia
This research aimed at designing the model of land cover changes in 1990 and 2014, and estimating carbon stock changes in each land cover in Leuser Ecosystem Area (LEA). The spatial model of land cover changes was analyzed by interpreting Landsat 5 TM imagery in 1990 and Landsat 7 ETM+ imagery in 2014 with ERDAS 9.1 and Land Change Modeller (LCM) in Idrisi TerrSet v.18. The analysis of land area changes (ha) in each land cover from 1990 to 2014 used ERDAS 9.1 with tools Interpreter (GIS Analysis-Matrix). Systematic survey method was employed in order to analyze carbon stocks. The sampling technique was stratified purposive composite sampling which used plot technique. The estimate of tree biomass used allometric equation. The estimate of carbon stocks in each land cover in 1990 was measured based on the total of carbon stocks in 2014 which was conversed with the areas of each land cover in 1990. Spatial model of land cover changes in LEA in 1990-2014 showed the changes of area in each land cover which caused the changes of carbon stocks in each land cover as well
The inventorying and mapping of landslide potential in Manado – Indonesia
Landslide constitutes a frequent problem occurs in Manado. It happens for many times from year to year and brings both material disadvantage and casualty. The way and hilly topography of Manado, unstabel geological condition, high rainfall, and the improper land use are assumed to be the trigger for the problem. The objective of this study is to inventory and map landslide potential area as well as to design the preventive plan. Mapping method employs spatial approach by using land unit as the analysis unit. The technique of analysis applies the assistance of GIS with its ArcView soft ware. The result of mapping shows that the level landslide potential from potential until very potential category in Manado is 1.815,72 Ha; potential is 1282,10 ha and very potential category is 533,62 ha. The faktors cause the landslide comprise of rocky declivity, high rainfall, and the condition of stone as well as the unstabel and porous soil. The existence of Cesar zone extends to the center of the city and the use of settlement land located in improper zone become the trigger that quicken the occurrence of landslide. The strategy implemented to manage the landslide potential area can be carried out through 1) law enforcement in relation to city lay out, 2) landslide prevention through civil and vegetative technique, 3) the improvement of social consciousness of the danger of landslide disaster and the attempt for social empowerment, and 4) the provision of the landslide potential danger map as the ground for policy making in the effort to manage the landslide disaster
Behavior and Preparedness to Fire Hazard in High Density Settlements in Bandung
Fire is one of the hazards that may affect urban areas with high density settlements. Thus, research on fire mitigation is important to be conducted. This paper examines the behavior and preparedness of occupants in high density settlements towards fire risks in urban area. The case study is located at Kelurahan Sukahaji, Kecamatan Babakan Ciparay, Bandung that has very high density settlement as well as prone to fire hazards. This study assess 232 respondents in the study areas on information related to demography, understanding about fire, behavior and preparedness. The respondents understanding on the types of fire sources are still low. Similarly, the behavior related to the activites using fire are still dangerous because some activities are conducted with other activities which make people less aware of the fire hazards. Nevertheless, their knowledge on how to extinguish fires are quite good. This paper recommends more trainings on knowledge of fire source and behavior to be conducted to occupants living in high density settlements in order to reduce fire disaster risk
Impacts of Climate Change (El Nino, La Nina, and Sea Level) on the Coastal Area of Cilacap Regency
This research was conducted to determine the impact of El Nino and La Nina on rainfall as well as the impact of El Nino, La Nina, and sea level on coastal flooding in Cilacap Regency. The methods used in this study were statistical analysis and simulation. The results of this study were El Nino caused diminished rainfall in Cilacap regency between 295 to 1665 mm. Meanwhile, La Nina caused surplus rainfall between 189 - 691 mm/year in compared with annual climatological rainfall. When ENSO phenomenon (El Nino) occurred, it caused sea level anomaly to fall, including in 1994, 1997, and 2002 of -11.63 cm, -11.5 cm, and -4.95 cm, respectively. Meanwhile, in La Nina years in 1999 and 2000, the sea level anomaly enhanced by 2.55 cm and 5.03 cm, respectively. The result of sea level projection by employing simulation model in this study was compared with the simulation results of the IPCC that obtained a correlation coefficient r of 0.99. Based on the simulation results, the 8 (eight) sub-districts in Cilacap Regency located in the coastal area potentially endure flood due to the impacts of global warming and La Nina with a diverse predicted year of occurrence depending on the altitude of each sub-district
