Mind-Body-Spiritual Nursing Care in Intensive Care Unit
The fast-paced and high technology environment
coupled with high acuity and life-threatening patient conditions in intensive care unit (ICU) have led the nurse focused on professional competence and technical skills to maintain a stable physiological condition. This may result in negligence of other aspects of caring i.e. psychological and spiritual aspects. This study aimed at revealing the nurses and patients’ experience on mind-body and spiritual nursing care at ICUs. The study was conducted at two hospitals: a university hospital and a private hospital in Surabaya used a phenomenological approach. The population of the study was both patients and nurses in intensive
care units who were selected using purposive sampling technique. Fourteen nurses and nine patients were recruited as participants. Data collection took place from September to December 2016 by In-depth interview. Data obtained were processed and analyzed using methods of Colaizzi. Seven themes were generated from the data: patients’ and nurses’ perception of nursing care, patient issues, hospital environment, family support, and how patients cope with the stressors. Mind-body-spiritual nursing care is
important for the patient in critical care setting to cope with the stressors. In addition to the nursing care, the patient stressors, ICU environment, family support, and experience also affect patient coping. A further study is required to establish which stimulus is significant for patient coping and what model of mind-body-spiritual nursing care is best to meet the patient need in ICU
IMPROVING COMPLIANCE WITH STANDARD PRECAUTIONS AMONG MYANMAR NURSES BY USING HEALTH BELIEF MODEL
Abstract:
Introduction: Occupational exposure to blood/body fluids is a serious concern for health
care workers and presents major risk for the transmission of contagious infections. Standard
Precaution is a life saving measure which is even more relevant as the number of people
living with HIV/AIDS, HBV, HCV and other contagious diseases are measuring. The main
objective of this study is to improve compliance with Standard Precautions by analyzing
factors effecting on compliance with Standard Precautions. Method: A cross-sectional study
design was used to formulate the strategic issues and focus group discussions were used to
gather in-depth information directly based on strategic issues. Descriptive statistics and
logistic regression were performed in this study. Result: Almost three forth (73.5%) of
participants had good compliance with Standard Precautions and (91.18%) participants had
high knowledge on Standard Precautions. Among all variables, exposure to blood/body
fluids, perceived susceptibility on infections, perceived benefits and perceived barriers on
compliance with Standard Precautions statistically significant effect on compliance with
Standard Precautions in this study. discussion: There is a satisfactory result for knowledge and
compliance on Standard Precautions of Myanmar nurses in SHW. All health belief model
sub-scales were significant effect on nurses’ compliance with Standard Precautions except
perceived seriousness. After improving, post results also showed increased positive
association. Regular and basis trainings, provision of both human and material resources in
quality and quantity, regular reporting, follow-up, and assessment of occupational exposures
needed to be introduced.

THE EFFECTS OF ACUPRESSURE AND Al-QURAN SURAH AL-FATIHAH RECITAL ON THE PAIN INTENSITY OF DRESSING CHANGE IN POST ORIF PATIENTS IN dr. SOEBANDI HOSPITAL
Introduction: Open Reduction And Internal Fixation (ORIF) is a wellestablished
surgical treatment of fractures worldwide. Most of patients experience
pain on dressing removal or change. The appropriate use of analgesics and
Complementary Alternatif Medicine is the key to minimising pain. Acupressure
and recital Al-Quran surah Al-Fatihah can be used to reduce pain intensity of
dressing change. The objective of this study was to explain acupressure and Al-
Quran surah Al-Fatihah recital may reduce pain intensity of dressing change in
post ORIF patients and increase β-endorphin level in urine. Methods: The
research used Quasi-Experimental design Pre-test-Post-test approach, in dr.
Soebandi Hospital. The sample was recruited using probability sampling with
consecutive sampling technique, consisting of 28 respondent, taken according to
the inclusion criteria. Research variables, were namely: Backgroundfactors (age,
sex, education and job), acupressure, reciting surah Al-Fatihah, pain and
endorphin. Data were collected by using structured questionnaire, numeric pain
scale, ELISA kit, and were analyzed by using Partial Least Square (PLS). Result
and Analysis: Acupressure, Al-Quran surah Al-Fatihah recital, and combine
Acupressure and Al-Quran surah Al-Fatihah recital significantly reduce pain
intensity of dressing change in post ORIF patients (p < 0.05). There is no
intervention more effective between Acupressure, Al-Quran surah Al-Fatihah
recital, and combine Acupressure and Al-Quran surah Al-Fatihah recital in
reducing pain intensity (p > 0.05). Acupressure, Al-Quran surah Al-Fatihah recital,
combine Acupressure and Al-Quran surah Al-Fatihah recital are not significantly
increase β-endorphin level in urine (p > 0.05). Discuss and Conclusions:
Acupressure, Al-Quran surah Al-Fatihah recital, and combine Acupressure and
Al-Quran surah Al-Fatihah are good alternative treatment to reduce pain intensity
of dressing change in post ORIF patients although these interventions still not
increase β-endorphin level in urine.

PERCEPTION AFFECTS THe HSP 70 FAMILY MEMBERS WHO CARE FOR SUFFERERS OF TUBERCULOSIS
Introduction: Tuberculosis (TB) takes a long-time and family-involving treatment. The available program of family involvement is merely as medication-taking assistance. The family was not given the way to protect their self from contracting the disease. This paper explores the results of a research conducted to analyze the perception affects the heat shock protein (Hsp70) family members who took care for sufferers of tuberculosis. Method: this research was conducted using cross sectional approach. The sample was 20 respondents obtained through total sampling techniques. The independent variable was perception, while the dependent variable was the Hsp70. The data were collected by questionnaire for perception, and the Hsp70 was measured using blood sample. The data were then analyzed with t-test. Results: The average score of the respondents’ perception was 64.15 and the average level of Hsp70 was 240.1 g/dl. The statistical T-test result showed p<0.05, indicating that perception influences the Hsp70 level of the respondents. Discussion: The Hsp70 is very expressive to changes, whether physical or mental, including perception. Positive perception is needed to optimize the work of Hsp70 as the protector of cells in the immune system. The nurse must be able to establish a positive perception of the family members who care for tuberculosis patients. Perception can be given in the religious dimension is delivered through therapeutic communication.

HIV/AIDS-RELATED STIGMA PREVENTION AMONG NURSING STUDENTS
Introduction: Studies have found that most people would keep away from people who are identified as HIV-positive. HIV/AIDS-related stigma is presented mainly because of its correlation with the marginalized groups and its infection process, diseases and death. The stigma of HIV/AIDS can cause some negative effects for people living with HIV/AIDS; discrimination, loss of jobs, violence, particularly in health care setting which can cause a major problem to the delivery of care even by the health workers, especially nurses. Nursing students would become practitioner nurse who would face and service people living with HIV/AIDS in the future, it would be very essential during their training in the college to prepare them to not discriminate and stigmatize the patients with HIV/AIDS. The purpose of this study was to review the potential interventions that have been applied for nursing students to prevent them in stigmatizing people with HIV/AIDS in caring context. Method: A literature review was conducted, searched through databases include MEDLINE, PubMed, and ProQuest from 2005-2016 based on this concept. Results: Four interventions were identified effectively prevent and reduce HIV/AIDS-related stigma among nursing students; combined program of knowledge and contact with PHA (knowledge-contact), brief stigma-reduction curriculum, body mapping as an educational tool, and team awareness seminar model. Discussion: Although several studies verified intervention in preventing HIV/AIDS-related stigma effectively, it is still needed to keep on searching and examining other possible interventions in different setting particularly in ASEAN countries.
