A proposal of a relative weighted online 5-star rating system as a way to mitigate online reviews biases

    Get PDF
Online ratings and reviews can be considered an electronic word of mouth regarding the quality of goods, products, or services. Reviews provide crucial information for customers, therefore significantly influencing their behavior, and they enable feedback to businesses from their customers, increase visibility, drive sales, help in developing a brand and building trust and reputation among consumers. However, the current 5-star rating system currently used on many Internet platforms such as Amazon or TripAdvisor suffers several drawbacks (biases) such as sentiment bias, polarization bias, non-discrimination bias, or vocal minority-silent majority bias. Therefore, the aim of the paper is to propose a new (weighted) relative 5-star rating system which takes into account reviewers’ history (in the form of the average and variance of the past reviews) and transforms absolute aggregate ratings into relative ones, thus providing less biased information for consumers and businesses. In particular, the proposed system reduces sentiment bias and non-discrimination bias. Moreover, the proposed approach enables to reduce the influence of ratings made by bots or dishonest evaluators-humans. The real-world application of the proposed approach dealing with ratings of selected attractions in Madrid area is provided as well

    No full text
Předkládaná disertační práce navrhuje a ověřuje metodiku využití nové generace diskrétní dynamické simulace pro optimalizaci návrhu i provozu logistického systému typu crossdock. Závěrem načrtává směry dalšího výzkumu, zejména rozvoj adaptivních algoritmů, hlubší integraci s podnikovou analytikou a ověření metodiky v různých provozních kontextech. Těžiště přínosu spočívá v propojení simulace, online dat a optimalizačních postupů do prakticky využitelného rámce pro řízení crossdockových operací.This dissertation proposes and validates a methodology for employing nextgeneration discreteevent simulation to optimize the design and operation of crossdock logistics systems. The approach is conceived as an integrated framework that connects a simulation model with a digital twin and IoTdriven data, enabling realistic, dataled experimentation and systematic decision support under changing operating conditions. The theoretical part provides a critical review of optimization methods for crossdocks and related technologies (simulation, digital twin, Internet of Things, analytics), identifying a research gap in their cohesive integration for both strategic and operational decisionmaking. The empirical part builds a representative model of a real crossdock, links it to evaluation and optimization modules, and assesses facility layout, flow routing, and resource allocation across varying scenarios. The outcome is a repeatable and scalable solution that improves decision transparency, accelerates improvement cycles, and aligns system performance with demands for resilience and efficiency. The thesis offers methodological guidelines for implementing a digital twin in crossdock environments (data governance, KPI mapping, process integration) and reflects on limitations related to data representativeness and generalizability. It outlines future research avenues, including adaptive optimization, deeper integration with enterprise analytics, and multicontext validation. The core contribution lies in linking simulation, live data, and optimization into a practically actionable framework for managing crossdock operations

Exploring philanthropic behavior and tax incentives: Motivations and trends in individual giving in the Czech Republic

    No full text
Philanthropy is defined as accommodating behaviour towards other members of society, usually through charitable donations. Charity forms a significant part of the income for the non-profit sector in many countries and is often directly supported through government tax policies. This article focuses on new empirical findings and applicable conclusions. It discusses the development of individual giving, motives, causes, and effects of philanthropic behaviour of individual donors in the Czech Republic. The tax incentive in the form of a tax deduction for donations means that the taxpayer bears part of the value of the donation, and part is transferred to the state by the taxpayer using thetax savings equal tothetax rate. Emphasis isplaced onhow current government policy, through charitable tax deductions from income tax, directly affects the volume of philanthropy in the economy. Philanthropy in the Czech Republic has unique characteristics influenced by its historical, cultural and economic context. This paper examines the motivations behind individual giving in the Czech Republic and evaluates the role of tax incentives compared to other motivators such as personal satisfaction and altruism. Utilizing a survey of 1,050 respondents, combined with regression and correlation analyses, the study reveals that tax incentives are a minor motivator for most donors, with only 2% identifying them as their primary reason for giving. Instead, personal satisfaction and altruism dominate as the most significant motivations. Additionally, while higher-income donors are more likely to utilize tax benefits, many remain unaware of these opportunities. The findings suggest the need for increased awareness campaigns and better integration of tax benefits into fundraising strategies. The study contributes to philanthropy by providing empirical insights specific to the Czech Republic and comparing these findings with existing literature

The results demonstrate that sustainability is an interdisciplinary field spanning environmental sciences, business, consumer studies, and textile engineering. Fiber recycling, bio-based fabrics, and low-impact dyeing are emerging themes, while gaps remain in communication, ethics, and cultural dimensions

RESEARCH ON INFLUENCE OF SEALING PARAMETERS ON STRENGTH AND WATER RESISTANCE OF STITCH-SEALING AND WELD-SEALING SEAM

    No full text
This study presents a comparative investigation of the performance of two-seam sealing techniques stitchsealing and ultrasonic weld-sealing applied to three-layer waterproof fabric composites used in highperformance apparel. A Box-Wilson Central Composite Design was adopted to systematically evaluate the effects of three critical sealing parameters temperature, sealing speed, and air pressure on seam thickness, tensile strength, and hydrostatic water resistance. Experimental trials were conducted both before and after 10 standardized domestic laundering cycles, following ISO 811 (hydrostatic head test) and ISO 13935-2 (grab tensile strength) protocols. Results revealed that weld-sealed joints consistently exhibited lower seam thickness and superior water resistance under all tested conditions, contributing to enhanced wearer comfort. Conversely, stitch-sealed seams demonstrated significantly higher tensile strength, particularly under high-temperature and high-pressure settings. Quadratic regression modeling indicated that temperature was the most influential parameter, with notable two-factor interaction effects observed especially between temperature and air pressure. These findings underscore the importance of optimizing sealing conditions based on end-use requirements, offering a scientific basis for the rational selection of seam sealing technologies in the manufacturing of functional waterproof garments
