Smart badminton coaching: Development machine learning-based training system for basic badminton technique
Badminton is one of the most popular sports in Indonesia, yet the training of its fundamental techniques has traditionally relied on conventional and subjective methods. To address this limitation, we developed the Shuttle Smart Training Model, a machine learning-based system that integrates an AI-powered shuttle launcher (Shuttle Smart Machine) and a validated measurement tool (Shuttle Smart Test). The system was designed to improve the forehand and backhand clear techniques among athletes aged 15–17 years. Data collection involved expert validation, small and large group trials, and effectiveness testing with experimental and control groups. Results showed that the experimental group significantly improved their performance (post-test mean = 75.21; N- Gain = 56%) compared to the control group (post-test mean = 57.84; N-Gain = 20%). Statistical analysis (t = 13.087, p < 0.001) confirmed the model’s effectiveness. This research demonstrates the novelty of integrating structured drill-based training, AI-assisted devices, and objective testing instruments into a comprehensive badminton training system. The findings highlight the potential of technology-assisted sports coaching to enhance skill acquisition and provide a scalable solution for grassroots development

Mining with Microorganisms for Environmental Sustainability and Minerals Bio-Circularity
Mining activities release heavy metals, chemicals, and other toxic pollutants into the environment and pollute soil and water sources, posing threats to human health. The consequence of mining pollution in the environment has a significantly larger impact on the overall ecosystem because of extensive mining activities, industrial production, and inappropriate disposal methods. The application of microorganisms to recover and recycle metals from mine tailings and waste provides a sustainable and circular approach to mining waste management. Mining microorganisms with their metal bio-solubilization ability play a significant role in natural minerals biogeochemical cycling. Assimilating mining waste management with sustainability and financial progress is a foremost revolution in the circular economy. The recovery of precious metals from mining wastes has significant potential, with widespread applications to modern society. The resulting pollution and exposure caused by conventional metal recovery techniques cause major health concerns. Bioleaching is a proven technique for the revitalization of valuable metals and rare earth elements from various sectors, enabling the recovery of metals from low-grade ores, mine tailings, and electronic waste, thereby transforming waste into a resource. In the future, the bioleaching process of utilising microorganisms to transform waste into value-added products must be established as a greener and more sustainable alternative. With advanced bioremediation technology, novel methods will be developed for the remediation, recovery, and recycling of different metal values from mining tailings
Effect of Dietary GroPro-Yeast Based Natural Additive on Hematological Parameters of Starter-Phase Laying Hens
Hematological parameters were evaluated in a feeding trial using one-day-old Hy-Line Brown strain layer chicks supplemented with GroPro, a yeast-based natural feed additive, under open house conditions. A total of 480 chicks were randomly allocated to four dietary treatments with six replicates per treatment (20 birds/replicate) using a Completely Randomized Design. The treatments consisted of a basal diet (T0), and diets supplemented feed additive with 0.2% (T1), 0.5% (T2), and 1.0% (T3) GroPro during seven weeks. At the end of the trial, blood samples were collected from the brachial vein and analyzed for hematological indices. Data were analyzed using ANOVA followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test when significant differences were detected. The results showed that dietary GroPro significantly (P0.05) was observed on mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC). The inclusion of 1.0% GroPro resulted in the most favorable hematological profile, indicating improved oxygen-carrying capacity and immune status in starter-phase laying hens
Nutrient Profile and Antioxidant Activity of Functional Processed Cheese Cube Fortified with Nano Moringa Extract
Cheese is a dairy product with high nutritional value and continues to experience increasing consumption in Indonesia. Innovation in the development of functional processed cheese cubes (PCC) made from natural ingredients is needed to increase nutritional value and health benefits. Moringa oleifera (MO) is a source of bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, phenolics, beta carotene, and macro and micro nutrients that have the potential to improve the functional quality of food products. This study aims to encourage the effect of the addition of nano moringa extract (NME) on the content of carbohydrates, protein, fat, crude fiber, and antioxidant activity in processed cheese cubes. MO was extracted using the maceration method, then converted into nano form through spray drying techniques to increase the bioavailability and stability of active compounds. PCC formulations were made with the addition of NME at concentrations of 0%, 0.2%, 0.4%, and 0.6%. The results showed that the addition of NME significantly affected all tested parameters. Carbohydrate content increased in the 0.2% and 0.4% treatments, with the highest value of 18.71% at 0.4% NME, but decreased at 0.6% due to nanoparticle aggregation that hindered dispersion homogeneity. The highest protein content was found at 0.2% NME at 7.46%, while higher concentrations showed a decrease due to the dilution effect and potential protein denaturation during the nanoencapsulation process. Fat content decreased with increasing NME concentration, with the lowest value of 27.54% at 0.4% NME, influenced by the activity of bioactive compounds that play a role in binding lipids. Crude fiber content tended to decrease at high concentrations due to degradation of the fiber fraction and protein-polysaccharide interactions. Antioxidant activity increased significantly, marked by the lowest ICso value of 7.98 ug/mL at 0.6% NME which is included in the very strong category
Fine-scale fishery patterns reveal challenges and opportunities for coastal management and conservation in Madagascar
The blue economy agenda has generated tensions over marine space use, often marginalising small-scale fisheries in development policies. Boat tracking technology has only recently begun to be applied in these fisheries, but it offers a promising approach to accurately map fishing distribution. In this study, we explored how environmental, technological, and social factors influenced fishers’ spatial behaviour and catches at sea in one of the Madagascar's most heavily exploited coral reef fisheries. We recorded boat movements at 30 s intervals and reef fish catches simultaneously during a 12-month participatory survey. The spatial distribution of annual fishing effort (h·ha−1) and fish catch rates (kg·ha−1) was characterised by fishing community and gear type (beach seine, mosquito net trawl, gillnet, handline, and speargun) at 250−m resolution. A total of 75 reef fish families were recorded in catches (1,466 t·yr−1) across approximately 218 km2. Annual catch rates of the seven dominant families (comprising 62% of total catches) were highly variable and heterogeneous (mostly 1–391 kg·ha−1) across marine habitats. A total of 7,359 tracks by 521 boats were recorded. Fishing pressure was highly variable spatially (mostly 1−150 h·ha−1) among communities and gear types. The results revealed preferential target areas, informal marine tenure, limited travel distance to fishing grounds, and overexploitation patterns within the fishery, offering critical insights for fishery management and inclusive marine spatial planning. This study showed the usefulness and opportunities of deploying combined boat tracking and catch surveys in small-scale fisheries through participatory research
Utilizing Palm Kernel Cake with Enzyme Supplementation for Carcass Quality and Broiler Chicken Fattening
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the carcass quality and fatness of broiler chickens that were 35 days old. 1,260 Indian River strain hens were utilized in the investigation. There were six replicates, each with thirty chickens, and seven treatments. T0 : basal feed (control), T1 : T0 with 10% PKC, T2 : T0 with 20% PKC, T3 : T0 with 10% PKC and enzyme one, T4 : T0 with 10% PKC and enzyme one, T5: T0 with 20% PKC and enzyme two, and T6: T0 with 20% PKC and enzyme two were the research treatments. Mannanase 182 g/ton, NSPase 200 g/ton, and protease 130 g/ton make up enzyme one; mannanase 182 g/ton, NSPase 400 g/ton, and protease 260 g/ton make up enzyme two. The hens were housed for 35 days. Carcass quality, which included harvest weight and carcass weight, and fatness, which included abdominal fat and subcutaneous fat, were among the criteria noted. The data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance, followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results showed that the addition of PKC and enzymes increased harvest weight and carcass weight. Treatments T1, T3, and T5 had higher harvest weight and carcass weight compared to treatment P0, reduced abdominal fat, and the addition of PKC and enzymes did not affect subcutaneous fat. This study concluded that the addition of 10% PKC and also 10% PKC with enzymes 1 and 2 could increase body weight and carcass weight, as well as reduce abdominal fat in 35-day-old broiler chickens
Carrageenan as a Functional Strategy to Enhance Quality and Consumer Acceptance in Marinated Chicken Breast
Today's consumers are redefining meat consumption by seeking products that combine premium quality with sustainability and affordability, without compromising sensory appeal or nutritional integrity. In this context, the present study investigated the impact of carrageenan incorporation at varying concentrations on the quality attributes of chicken breast marinades as a ready-to-cook meat product. The inclusion of 1.5% carrageenan significantly (p < 0.05) enhanced fat (2.26±0.42%) while inclusion of 0.8% improved ash contents (6.06±0.27%). Increasing carrageenan concentrations were also associated with elevated pH and viscosity, indicating improved functional stability. Colour analysis revealed that carrageenan-treated samples exhibited a darker appearance relative to the control. Furthermore, cooking loss was significantly reduced (p < 0.05) in carrageenan-enriched formulations, reflecting superior water-holding capacity. Texture profile analysis demonstrated marked improvements (p < 0.05) in hardness, cohesiveness, gumminess, chewiness, and resilience, highlighting the role of carrageenan in structural enhancement. Sensory evaluation confirmed that panellists preferred samples containing 0.5-1.5% carrageenan, suggesting this concentration range optimally balanced functional benefits with consumer acceptability. Collectively, these findings establish carrageenan as a valuable functional ingredient for improving the physicochemical, textural, and sensory qualities of chicken marinades, thereby aligning product innovation with evolving consumer expectations for quality and functionality in meat-based foods
