Analysis of floating concrete breakwater mooring tension by DualSPHysics

    No full text
An analysis of the effect of the distance between a Floating Concrete Breakwater (FCB) with dual configurations on the tension of the catenary mooring line system is presented. The Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics method in DualSPHysics software was used to analyze the maximum tension on FCB mooring lines at the 1:10 model scale. The results indicate that the gap between FCBs influenced the mooring line's tension. In the narrow FCB (40cm width), the mooring line tension was reduced by 20% when the gap is reduced to 20 cm (50% width) from 30 cm (75% width) and increased by 1% when the gap was increased from 30 cm (75% width) to 40 cm (100% width). With a few exceptions, the wide FCB (102.5cm width) shows an 8% tension increase at a gap of 50cm (50%) to 75cm (75% width) and a 16% tension drop when the gap was reduced to 75cm (75% width) from 1 m (100% width). The wave’s height and periods also influence the mooring line tension. At a wave height of 0.18 meters and 2.21 seconds wave period of 2.21 s, the maximum tensions for a narrow single FCB were 187.54 kN at the fairlead and 185.189 kN at the anchor. At a wave height of 0.28 m and a wave period of 2.84 s, the maximum tensions of the wide single FCB is 359.75 kN at the anchor and 362.42 kN at the fairlead. In the dual configuration, the maximum tension was recorded when the gap between the floating breakwaters was 50% of the width, either for the narrow or wide FCB

Scarcity Appeals in Advertising: Psychological and Social Mechanisms of Consumer Buying Behaviour

    No full text
Scarcity advertising appeals play a key role in shaping consumers’ repurchase intentions in digital marketing. Based on psychological, cognitive, and social perspectives, this paper discusses how scarcity appeals in advertising influence consumers’ impulse buying behaviour. It is worth considering how scarcity causes emotional arousal, influences perceived value and leads to consumers’ House of identity. This study extends Psychological Reactance Theory, Commodity Theory and Symbolic Interactionism to construct a multidimensional model explaining how scarcity messages lead to impulsive choices. Taking two real cases of scarcity marketing as examples, which are Adidas’s limited-edition Yeezy products and Pop Mart’s Labubu blind-box marketing, this research demonstrates how scarcity exerts influence in a cultural context and a commercial context. The two cases show that scarcity marketing is not only an effective stimulus for immediate buying but also helps establish an emotional connection and symbolic meaning between brands and consumers. In this way, scarcity is still an effective and culturally bound strategy in modern consumer culture, which influences behaviour and identity subtly but powerfully

The Relationship between Parents’ Educational Expectations and Junior High School Students’ Learning

    No full text
Academic burnout is a global issue that frequently manifests in daily life. This phenomenon often adversely affects students’ psychological and physical development. In Asian families, parental educational expectations regarding junior high school students’ academic burnout are frequently overlooked. The persistent perception of excessive coursework and homework as the sole contributing factors to academic burnout, combined with the traditional Chinese “expectations for children’s success” mindset that views parental high expectations as a natural expression of care, has resulted in limited empirical research. This study investigates junior high school students’ perceptions of parental expectations and their impact on academic burnout through statistical analysis. Using questionnaire-based quantitative research methods, this study demonstrates a significant correlation between parental educational expectations and academic burnout among junior high school students. The findings reveal a dual effect: moderate parental expectations can positively motivate students, whereas excessive expectations significantly contribute to emotional exhaustion and disengagement. This suggests that the quality and communication of expectations, rather than their mere presence, are critical factors in student well-being. Ultimately, this research underscores the necessity of fostering realistic parental goals and open parent-child dialogue to mitigate academic pressure and support the healthy psychological development of adolescents

How Generative AI Affects Chinese College Students’ English Academic Writing Skills

    No full text
Generative AI (e.g., ChatGPT, Grammarly, QuillBot) is rapidly diffusing into English for Academic Purposes writing, yet its relationship with learners’ self-efficacy, perceived ability, cognitive load, and dependence remains unclear. This cross-sectional survey (N = 93 Chinese undergraduates) quantified one-week AI usage (days/hours, stages, tools), writing self-efficacy (SE), self-rated ability across four EAP dimensions (AB: content/argumentation; structure/coherence; evidence/citation; language/style), cognitive load (CL), feedback-literacy behaviors (editing/verification), and perceived AI dependence (DPN). Results show a significant group difference in AB: high-frequency AI users rated their academic writing ability higher than low-frequency users (one-way ANOVA, p = .041), and AI use time correlated positively with AB (r ≈ .30). Perceived dependence was higher among high-frequency users than lowfrequency users (t-test, p < .01), and AI use time correlated with dependence (r = .369, p < .001). A multiple regression predicting DPN from CL, SE, and AB was significant but small in magnitude (R2 ≈ .08); cognitive load uniquely and positively predicted dependence (p = .025). Non-significant associations (e.g., SE with AI use) are discussed as design targets for future work. The author argues for calibrated, feedback-literate AI use and planned “AI-off” practice to preserve autonomous writing competence while harnessing efficiency gains

From Gods to the Unknown: Epistemological Reflections on Faith, Science, and Media Narratives

    No full text
This paper discusses how media narratives translate miracles into scientificized “unknowns” in two cultural traditions. Ancient myths in two cultural traditions made the incomprehensible divine will–Nuwa’s creation of humanity, Pangu’s separation of heaven and earth, Genesis, and Prometheus?thus locating mystery in the position of sacred authority. In contemporary techno-narratives Liu Cixin’s The Three-Body Problem, Luc Besson’s Lucy, and Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar made the incomprehensible higher-dimensional physics or cognitive evolution, thus locating awe in the position of sacred authority, while also placing it in the position of scientific authority. Analysis demonstrates that atheism’s denial of the unknown renders it a form of idealism; true materialism is in the position of humble recognition of what is unknown

The Influence of Parental Child-Rearing Styles on Aggressive Behavior in Preschool Children's Peer Interactions

    No full text
With the continuous improvement of social attention to children's mental health, the aggressive behavior of preschool children (especially at the age of four to six) in peer interaction has gradually become a topic of concern. Such behaviors may not only delay a child's socialization but also adversely affect his or her long-term mental health. This study focuses on the influence of parenting style on aggressive behavior in preschoolers' peer interactions. Based on the parenting theory proposed by Baumrind, this study systematically analyzes the potential association between different parenting types and aggressive behavior. Through the method of literature review, this paper integrates the main research achievements in this field and explores their correlation with children’s aggressive behavior from a theoretical perspective. The research results show that there is a significant connection between parents’ parenting styles and children’s aggressive behaviors. An authoritative parenting style with both high demand and high response characteristics was negatively correlated with lower levels of aggressive behavior. In contrast, authoritarian parenting, which emphasized strict control and obedience, and permissive parenting, which lacked restraint and feedback, were positively associated with higher levels of aggression

The Impact of Idol Behavior on the Public: Including Their Conduct, Fashion Trends, and Social Media Influence

    No full text
The research examines the psychological and sociological effects of celebrities’ social media conduct on their followers. It also analyses the effect of these social media influencers’ actions on society behaviour and standards. This qualitative study achieved its objectives by examining three prominent South Korean organisations. During that time, BTS, Twice, and BLACKPINK were the leading groups. The researchers sought to examine the impact of heroes’ activities, dress choices, and online interactions on fan behaviour, body image, and purchasing patterns. They examined these elements within the framework of popular culture. The study integrates Latané’s concept of social consequences to demonstrate that significant activities may have both positive and negative impacts on society. Heroes often promote open communication, charity, and collaboration; nevertheless, they may also propagate self-serving notions of beauty and affluence. Social media functions as an efficient medium for sharing information about heroes, since it enables the recognition of their deeds and promotes imitation. Individuals may be inspired and enraged by heroic deeds. Consequently, the entertainment sector requires increasingly rigorous standards and an elevated sense of ethical duty

The Application of Artificial Intelligence Automated Evaluation Systems in English Writing Instruction: Scoring Accuracy, Feedback Effectiveness, and User Experience

    No full text
With the deepening application of artificial intelligence (AI) in education, automated evaluation systems have become important aids in English writing instruction. However, disputes persist regarding their scoring accuracy, feedback effectiveness, and user experience. This paper reviews the application of AI automated evaluation systems in English writing instruction, focusing on scoring accuracy, feedback effectiveness, and user experience. Findings show that AI systems perform well in evaluating linguistic forms, demonstrating high consistency with human raters, especially in grammar and vocabulary. Nevertheless, they remain inadequate in assessing content depth, logical structure, and creativity. Regarding feedback, AI systems can enhance students’ writing proficiency if combined with scaffolded designs (e.g., model essays, checklists, multiple rounds of revision). In terms of user experience, students value the immediacy and interactivity of AI feedback but trust it less than teacher feedback on content-related aspects. The conclusion points out that AI systems should be positioned as playing an auxiliary role in formative evaluation, leverage their advantages in efficiency and personalization through human-machine collaboration, and pay attention to teacher training, system optimization, and ethical norms, so as to promote English writing instruction toward a more efficient, inclusive, and human-centered direction

The Impact of Multilingual Teaching on the Social Behaviors of Preschool Children

    No full text
With the development of globalization, cross-cultural communication skills are becoming increasingly important. Some researchers have found that multilingual teaching has promoted learners’ language proficiency and communication skills. However, existing research has overlooked the implementation of multilingual teaching in the preschool stage and paid less attention to its impact on social skills. Therefore, this study is the first to conduct cross-disciplinary research on “multilingual teaching” and “social behavior of preschool children”, and based on the research results, a set of multilingual curriculum teaching plans has been designed. This study adopts the research methods of literature review and case analysis to investigate the above issues. Research has found that immersive multilingual teaching can, to a certain extent, cultivate children’s language skills and social abilities. This article suggests that kindergartens, if capable, can cultivate these two important abilities of preschool children by introducing multilingual teaching
