PENGARUH NAUNGAN DAN LEVEL NITROGEN TERHADAP KARAKTER PERTUMBUHAN RUMPUT CORONIVA
EFFECT OF SHADING AND NITROGEN LEVEL TO CHARACTER OF GROWTH CORONIVA GRASS (Brachiaria humidicola).The Coroniva grass (Brachiaria humidicola) or Schweick was ruminant animal feed grass with high ability for land recovering, land erosion and high nutrient quality for ruminant animals. In the areas with high sun light and land nutrient availability,this grass was capable to increase carbon accumulation under top soil and contribute the nitrogen (N) as fixation result of Azotobacter microorganism. Under shading areas and lack of land nutrient availability, especially nitrogen, growth and production potentials had not been fully explored. The objective of this study was to evaluate the levels of shading areas and nitrogen fertilizer on growth traits, dried matter plant leaf canopy and ratio between plant canopy and plan root of Coroniva grass (Brachiaria humidicola). Treatments were divided into three levels of shading (0%, 40%, 70%) and nitrogen fertilizer levels of 0 kg, 50 kg and 100 kg ha-1. Treatments were applied using factorial design based on block randomized design. Results showed that interaction between shading area of 40% and N level of 100 kg ha-1 produced the highest numbers and length of stolon, while the highest numbers of propagating plant were found at interaction between shading area of 40% and N level of 50 kg ha-1. Therefore, it can be concluded that growth traits of Coroniva grass were determined by the factors of shading areas and nitrogen macro element. PENGARUH PERBEDAAN KONSENTRASI LARUTAN ASAM ASETAT (CH3COOH) TERHADAP KARAKTERISTIK GELATIN KULIT KAKI AYAM
THE EFFECT OF ACETIC ACID CONCENTRATION ON CHARACTERISTICS OF CHICKEN LEG SKIN GELATIN. This research was aimed to determine the effect of differenceacetic acid (CH3COOH) concentration on chicken legs skin gelatin. The experiment were determined by analysis of Completely Randomized Design with one factors and five replicates of treatments.The factor was concentration of acetic acid solution consisting 4 level (1, 3, 5 and 7%).The results showed that the difference  concentration acetic acid solution had high significant effect (P<0.01) on the the yields, viscosity, gel strength and pH value ofchicken legs skin gelatin.Yield of chicken legskin gelatin was13.57 to 15.49%, viscocity was ranged between 4.30 to 5.76, gel strength was 61.15 to 68.29 g Bloom and pH value was 5.24 to 5.58. The conclusion of this research was the chicken leg skin gelatin using acetic acid solution concentration 1 % to 7 % had the similar characteristics with the commercial gelatin and includedyields, viscosity, gel strength and pH value of Indonesian National Standard gelatin.  Key words : Acetic acid, Gelatin and Chicken legs ski
PERFORMANS REPRODUKSI INDUK SAPI LOKAL PERANAKAN ONGOLE YANG DIKAWINKAN DENGAN TEKNIK INSEMINASI BUATAN DI KECAMATAN TOMPASO BARAT KABUPATEN MINAHASA
REPRODUCTION PERFORMANCE OF ONGOLE CROSSBRED COWS MATED BY THE ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION TECHNIQUE AT WEST TOMPASO DISTRICT, MINAHASA REGENCY. Artificial Insemination (AI) was the first generation in biotechnology of animal reproduction in Indonesia. Nowdays, Indonesian government still rely on AI to increase genetic quality and animal productivity especially for beef cattle and dairy cattle. The success of AI related with reproduction performance was determined by variabels of conception rate (C/R), service per conception (S/C) and calving interval (CI). West Tompaso District in Minahasa Regency had applied AI as government program since 2013. However, the scientific information about the success of AI in that location has not been well documented. The aim of this study was to evaluate the success of AI on acceptor’s reproduction performance aspect. Total AI acceptor samples used in this study were 63 head of Ongole crossbred cows. Research was conducted using study case involving primary and secondary data sources. Collecting data was done by interviewing the farmers picked by purposive sampling method. Variables observed included C/R, S/C and CI analyzed by decriptive-qualitative data analysis. The result showed that C/R was 55,56%, S/C was 1,44 and CI was 359,6 days. Therefore, it can be concluded that the reproduction of Ongole crossbred cows as AI acceptors was categorized into good performance. PENGARUH PENAMBAHAN TEPUNG TOMAT (Solanum lycopersicum l) TERHADAP KUALITIAS INTERNAL TELUR AYAM RAS
EFFECT OF TOMATOES STARCH (Solanum lycopersicum l) ON INTERNAL EGG QUALITY OF LAYING CHICKEN. This research has been done to determine the effect of tomatoes starch on the internal egg quality of laying chicken. The material used in this study was a 100 laying hens aged 36 weeks with the following treatments P0: basal ration without tomatoes startch; P1: 98% of basal ration + 2% of tomatoes starch: P2; 96% of basal ration + 4% tomatoes starch; P3: 94% of basal ration + 6% of tomatoes starch; P4: 92% of basal ration + 8% of tomatoes starch. Research design used was the completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatment and 5 replications. Duncan's multiple range test was used for further test. Variables were observed during the study include egg yolk index, yolk color, and Haugh unit (HU). The results showed that the addition of tomatoes in the diet has no significant effect (P> 0.05) on egg yolk index and haugh units (HU), but highly significant effect (P <0,01) against the color of egg yolks. Based on the research results obtained, it can be concluded that the addition of tomatoes starch in ration as much as 8% will provide a good response to the effect of egg yolk index, Haug units (HU), and yellow egg of laying chicken. TINGKAH LAKU HARIAN KUSKUS BERUANG (Ailurops ursinus) DI CAGAR ALAM TANGKOKO BATU ANGUS
DAILY BEHAVIOUR OF SULAWESI BEAR CUSCUS (Ailurops ursinus) IN TANGKOKO BATU ANGUS NATURE RESERVE. This study aimed to describe dailly behaviour of Sulawesi Bear Cuscus (Ailurops ursinus) in Tangkoko Batu Angus Nature Reserve. This reseach is expected to provide information about inactive, foraging, intake, groom and social behavior of Ailurops ursinus as primary behavior variables of the animal daily activities. The usie of vegetation during animal daily activities were introducted in this research as a secondary variable. This research used obsevation as research method and instantinous animal sampling technique. This method observed Ailurops ursinus behavior three times per day . Each single observe was done in 60 minutes with 60 seconds time interval. Every single observe was replicated 14 times. The result of this research showed that the daily behaviour of Ailurops ursinus was dominated by inactive behaviour with 56.86 percents consisted of 30.5 minutes were spent in the morning, 42.6 minutes at noon and 29.2 minutes in the afternoon. Intake behaviour took times of 26.98 percents consisted of 17.2 minutes were spent in the morning, 8 minutes at noon and 23.3 minutes in the afternoon. The foraging behaviour took times of 15.11 percents consisted of 11.7 minutes were spent in the morning, 8.7 minutes at noon and 6.6 minutes in the afternoon. Groom activity spent times of 0.98% consisted of 0.5 minutes spent in the morning, 0.5 minutes at noon and 0.7 minutes in the afternoon. SUPLEMENTASI TEPUNG IKAN TERPROTEKSI EKSTRAK TANIN HIJAUAN KABESAK KUNING, KABESAK HITAM DAN KIHUJAN DALAM RANSUM TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN TERNAK KAMBING
SUPPLEMENTATION OF FISH MEAL PROTECTED OF TANNIN EXTRACT FROM ACACIA LEUCOPHLOEA,  ACACIA CATECHU AND SAMANEA SAMAN IN RATION ON GOAT PERFORMANCE. The objective of research was to study supplementation of fish meal protected of tannin extract from Acacia leucophloea, Acacia catechu and Samanea saman in ration on goat performance. The experiment was arranged in Completely Randomized Design with 4 treatments and 4 replicates. Sixteen male local goats were allocated for treatments: P0 (basal feed + corn-urea + non protected fish meal with extract tannin), P1 (basal feed + corn-urea + protected fish meal with extract tannin from Acacia leucophloea), P2 (basal feed + corn-urea + protected fish meal with extract tannin from Acacia catechu), and P3 (basal feed + corn-urea + protected fish meal with extract tannin from Samanea saman). Combination native grass with Leucaena used as basal feed (60:40). The result of experiment showed that the treatments effective in increasing goat performance and the best treatment were supplementation fish meal with extract tannin from Acacia leucophloea (DMI 719,88 g/h/d; N retention 10,46 g/h/d; daily gain 52,94 g/h/d and ration efficiency 0,070) and Acacia catechu (DMI 719,88 g/h/d; N retention 10,03; daily gain 51,47 g/h/d and ration efficiency 0,072).  Keywords : supplementation, fish meal, protection, tannin extract, goat performanc
PENGARUH PENGGUNAAN VIRGIN COCONUT OIL (VCO) DALAM RANSUM TERHADAP KECERNAAN ENERGI DAN PROTEIN TERNAK BABI FASE GROWER
EFFECT OF UTILIZATION OF VIRGIN COCONUT OIL (VCO) IN THE DIET ON ENERGY AND PROTEIN DIGESTIBILITY OF GROWING PIGS. Utilization of virgin coconut oil (VCO) as a source of energy, not only increase the enegy in the diet, but also increase energy utilization efficiency. The increase of energy utilization efficiency depends on fat digestibility. The present study was designed to elaborate the effect of utilization of VCO in the diets on energy and protein digestibility of growing pigs. The experiment was conducted using 20 castrated male pigs aged 6-7 weeks weighing 32.5-41.5kg. The data were analyzed according to the linear model procedure for ANOVA appropriate for Randomized Block Design with 5 treatments and 4 replications. Treatments were formulated as follow: R0 = 100% control diet + VCO; R1 = 99.5% control diet + 0.5% VCO; R2 = 99% control diet + 1.0% VCO; R3 = 98.5% control diet + 1.5% VCO; and R4 = 98% control diet + 2.0% VCO. Parameters measured were: energy and protein digestibility. The result showed that the utilization ov VCO up to 4% in the diets, had no effect (P> 0. 05) on energy and protein digestibility. It can be concluded that the addition of VCO up to 2.0% in the diets has no significant influence on energy and protein digestibility of growing pigs.  Keyword : Virgin coconut oil (VCO), Energy and Protein Digestibility, Growing Pigs
NILAI RETENSI NITROGEN DAN ENERGI METABOLIS RANSUM MENGGUNAKAN DAUN MURBEI (Morus alba) SEGAR PADA BROILER
NITROGEN RETENTION AND METABOLIZABLE ENERGY OF MULBERRY (Morus alba) FRESH LEAVES IN DIET OF BROILERS. The study was determine to evaluate the effect of Mulberry (Morus alba) fresh leaves in diet on nitrogen retention and metabolizable energy corrected for nitrogen of broilers. A total of 20 birds at age of 6 weeks old were used for 7 days of preliminary period and 3 days of data collection period using a completely randomized design with four treatments and five replications. The dietary treatment was including levels of 0, 2, 4, and 6% of fressh mulberry leaves in the diets. The variables were nitrogen retention (NR) and metabolizable energy corrected for nitrogen (AMEn). Results showed that there were significant differences (P˂0.05) among treatments for NR and highly significant differences (P˂0.01) among treatments for AMEn. Analysis of variance for NR showed that there was no significant difference between R0 (89.81%) and R1 (85.97%) of diets. Similarly, there was no significant difference between R1 (85.97), R2 (84.51%) and R3 (84.09%) of diets. The values of AMEn showed that R0 diet had significant difference with those of R1 (3517.80 Kcal/Kg), R2 (3451.73 Kcal/Kg) and R3 (3360.90 Kcal/Kg). However, between R1, R2, and R3 had no significant differences. The results suggested the experiments of mulberry fresh leaves in level up to 6% can be used as an alternatives feedstuff of broiler diet based on nitrogen retention and metabolizable energy corrected for nitrogen. PENGARUH PENDAPATAN TERHADAP KONSUMSI DAGING DAN TELUR DI KECAMATAN SIAU BARAT KABUPATEN KEPULAUAN SIAU TAGULANDANG BIARO
ABSTRACT  EFFECT OF INCOME ON MEAT AND EGG CONSUMPTION IN WEST SIAU DISTRICT OF THE SIAU TAGULANDANG BIARO REGENCY. Generally, coastal farmer community have low income causing consumptions of livestock product are low. West Siau district was including in the Siau Tagulandang Biaro Island regency as the coastal area. Majority of the population of this regency were household farmer and fisher men, causing consumption of livestock product depended on their income. Objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of income on meat and egg consumption in West Siau district. Samples of villages were defined using purposive sampling method, referring to villages with high population staying on the coastal area including villages of Pelingsawang, Peling and Paniki. Data were collected using survey method including primary and secondary data. Household farmers were defined based on simple random sampling with the total of 41 persons. Variables observed were total meat consumption, total egg consumption and income per capita. Data were analyzed by simple regression analysis. Results showed that total income of household farmer were IDR 136,660,000 with the average of IDR 3,333,171 per household farmer per month. Total chicken meat, pork and egg consumptions were 58.5 kg, 27.5 kg and 17.4 kg per month, respectively. Average investment to consume meat and eggs were IDR 122,195 or 3.67 percents of the family income. Average meat consumption at West Siau district were 7.72 kg per capita per year, consisted of chicken meat and pork of 4.84 kg and 2.88 kg per capita per year, respectively. Average of egg consumption were 1.49 kg per capita per year. Therefore, income of the family significantly affected meat and egg consumption in West Siau district of the Siau Tagulandang Biaro regency.  Keywords: Income, meat and egg  consumption, Siau district
PENGARUH PEMBERIAN BEBERAPA JENIS HIJAUAN TERHADAP PERFORMANS TERNAK KELINCI
THE FFECT OF SOME TYPES OF FORAGE FOR LIVESTOCK PERFORMANCE RABBIT. Rabbit productions may have considerable potential in developing counties as a means of converting forages and agricultural by product to meat. The present study was conductes to laborate leaves, and their combinations in the diets on rabbit performance. Twenty one 6-week old weaned rabbits, weighing 300-400 gramns were used in this trial. Animals were put in individual metabolic crates. A Completely Randomized Design with 7 treatments and 3 replications was used as an experimental design and Tukey test was employed to determine treatmen differences. Treatments were arranged as: R1 : carrot leaves + concentrate; R2 : kale leaves + concentrate; R3 : cabbage leaves + concentrate; R4 : carrot and cabbage leaves + concentrate; R5 : kale and cabbage leaves + concentrate; R6 carrot and kale leaves; R7 : carrot + kale + cabbage leaves + concentrate. Parameters measured were; daily feed consumption, daily gain, and feed conversion ratio. Research result showed that treatments significantly affected daily feed consumption, daily gain, and feed convertion ration be concluded that the combination of carrot and cabbage leaves can support rabbit performance in the present study.
