    CARCASS PERFORMANCE OF BROILER FED RATION CONTAINING COFFEE (Coffea sp) HUSK WASTE PRODUCT TREATED BY SIMPLE PROCESSING AND SUBSTITUTING PARTS OF CORN WITH DIFFERENT LEVELS. Broilers had rapid growth rate and need high nutrient protein and energy balance in the diet. This study was conducted to evaluate the use of coffee husk waste product treated by simple processing substituted with part of corn in ration on carcass percentage of broiler. Study was applied at Faculty of Animal Science, Sam Ratulangi University during 35 days. Total of 144 day old chick unsexed broilers, strain of CP 707, involving 36 experimental units of battery pens were used in this study. Each unit of pen was filled 4 birds under completely randomized design on factorial patter of 3x4. Factor A was focused on three processing treatments including coffee husk heated under sun light (A1), coffee husk immersed in the water (A2), and coffee husk boiled under water (A3). Factor B was focused on four treatments of substitution levels including ration containing corn without coffee husk substitution (B0), ration containing corn substituted with 25% coffee husk (B1), ration containing corn substituted with 50% coffee husk (B2), ration containing corn substituted with 75% coffee husk (B3). Variables observed were including percentages of thigh, wing, breast and back part. Analysis of variance showed that interaction of processing treatments did not affect significantly on the percentages of thigh, wing, breast and back part. This study indicated that simple processing of coffee husk were not affected the carcass percentages of broiler. The substitution levels significantly affected carcass percentage of broiler. Percentages of thigh, wing, breast and back part were 28.92%-30.98%, 10.38%-12.68%, 35.10%-38.55% and 19,68%-22,71%, respectively. This study showed that utilization of coffee husk waste product by above simple processing could substitute part of corn in ration of 25% producing high carcass percentage of broiler.Keywords: Coffee husk by product, broiler part of carcass percentag

    ENERGY DIGESTIBILITY AND TOTAL DIGESTIBLE  NUTRIENT IN DAIRY COWS GIVEN COMPLETE FEED BASED ON  CORN FORAGE. The purpose of this research  was to examine the value of energy digestibility and total nutrient digestibility in dairy cows which are given complete feed based on corn forage. 14 head of cattle with age ± 6-8 years weighing 300-400 kg were used in this study. This biological experiment used a statistical analysis of the T test with unequal variations (t-test two sample assuming unequel variance). The treatments consists of: Ra (30% Concentrate + 70% Corn forage), and Rb (30% Concentrate + 35% Corn forage + 35% King Grass). The results showed that the energy intake both of treatments(Ra and Rb) were not significantly different (P <0.05) while the energy digestibility and total digestible nutrient of the Rb treatment were significantly higher (P <0.05) than Ra treatment. It can be concluded that feed treatment using of 30% oncentrate, 35% king grass, and 35% corn forage was obtained the best energy disgestibility and total digestible nutrient values.Keywords: energy digestibility, dairy cows. corn forage , king grass

    PROFIL MANAJEMEN KESEHATAN TERNAK KUDA DI DESA PINABETENGAN KECAMATAN TOMPASO KABUPATEN MINAHASA

    HORSE LIVESTOCK MANAGEMENT PROFILE IN THE VILLAGE OF PINABETENGAN KECAMATAN TOMPASO MINAHASA REGENCY. This study aims to determine the horse health management of Pinabetengan Village, Tompaso District of Minahasa Regency. The survey method was used in research in August to September 2018. Data collection was carried out through interviews and questionnaires for 56 horse breeders. Variables consist of horse breeders profiles, horse farm management profiles,and livestock health management profiles. Data analysis using descriptive statistics. The results showed that Management profile livestock health consists of 71.43% of farmers having vaccinated, 54.55% of parasite prevention. Diseases that attack livestock are 45.45% of worm parasitic diseases, 31.82% of runny nose, 14.55% of scabies, and 8.15% of digestive tract (colic and diarrhea). 63.36% of farmers self-medicated sick animals, 35.09% used medical services, and 1.75% did not handle. Farmers have not implemented biosecurity, but 98.21% have done routine sanitation. 94.75% of farmers do not know about infectious diseases of horses to human. 35.71% of farmers have suffered from diarrhea, 14.29% inflammation of the skin/ scabies/selakarang. It can be concluded that the implementation health management for horse in Pinabetengan village of Minahasa Regency is limited due to lack of farmers knowledge and education. Keywords: Management, health, horse cattle

    THE STUDY OF ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION APPLICATION ON GENETIC IMPROVEMENT OF LIVE WEIGHT IN ONGOLE GRADE CATTLE AT NORTH SULAWESI PROVINCE. This research was conducted to evaluate the effective application of artificial insemination compared with natural breeding on genetic improvement by grading up system involving semen sourced from Ongole bull for the Indonesian-grade cattle at rural areas in Minahasa regency of North Sulawesi province, Indonesia. Data on animal live weight were collected from all cows (n= 404) kept by the traditional household farmers. Data of the cows were corrected by adjusting for the six years old of age. Breeding of beef genetic ancestors used the natural breeding (NB) and the artificial insemination (AI), divided into three cow groups with the first group of NB-mating without grading up (G0 cows), the second group of AI-mating with grading up using semen of Ongole bull for the first generation (G1 cows), and the third group of AI-mating with grading up using semen of Ongole bull for the second generation (G2 cows). The genetic improvements from breeding program of each G0, G1 and G2 were analyzed involving the selection intensity (i), the accuracy of selection (r), the genetic standard deviation of the trait under selection (SDg), and the generation interval (L) expressed in years. Results of this study showed that the critical components was the genetic development of local beef cattle by grading up using semen of the selected elite Ongole bull mated by AI method producing G2 in North Sulawesi province of Indonesia. This method increased genetically four hundred percents of live weight per year under 48% to 10% proportions of elite cows at the truncation points from the animal population compared with those of the natural mating of G0 in increasing genetic development for animal genetically live weight per year.Key Words: artificial insemination, genetic development, Indonesian local-grade cattle, Ongole breed bul

    THE QUALITY OF ILABULO USES SAGO FLOUR WITH DIFFERENT LEVELS. The study aims to evaluate the use of native chicken and starch   on   physical   and   organoleptic of ilabulo foods. This study was conducted using a complete random design (CRD), with four treatments: p1 (50 grams) p2 (100 grams) p3 (150 grams) p4 (200 grams) and five replication. Data was analyzed using anova (analysis of variance). Based on the results of data analysis that the variable of water holding capacity, moisture, flavor and taste showed non-significant differences while pH, the color, texture showed significant differences. It can be concluded that the use native chicken meat and sago flour of 100-200 grams to ilabulo food could be accepted by panelist.Keywords: native chicken, sago, ilabul

    FINANCIAL ANALYSIS OF THE CV. RINDRILLY SWINE FARM AT TONTALETE VILLAGE, KEMA DISTRICT OF NORTH MINAHASA REGENCY. The CV. Rindrilly Swine Farm has been established in the year of 2000. The objective of this study was to evaluate the financial feasibility of CV. Rindrilly Swine Farm. Case study method was applied in this study. The primary data were obtained by interviewing directly to the owner of the pig farm using listed questioners. The secondary data were found from the “Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS)†of North Minahasa regency and other research reports related to this study. Descriptive analysis and investment criteria analysis were used in this study. Results of this study showed that the financial aspect was feasible in term of investment criteria appraisal including BEP unit with 288 heads of pig per period of production and BEP in IDR amount IDR 807,437,525.- per period of production. These criteria was reaching the break event point due to the total animals sold were 1,500 heads per period of production during 6 months with the total IDR output of 8,869,000,000 per year. The values of Net B/C  and Gross B/C  equal to 1.18 and 1.26, respectively. The value of NPV equal to IDR 764,420,240.- and IRR value equal to 22.18 percents > bank interest rates

    AGRONOMIC CHARACTERISTIC OF VEGETATIVE PHASE SORGUM SAMURAI II VARIETY IN DIFFERENT PLANTING SPACE. The purpose of this research to determine the agronomic characteristic of Samurai II Sorghum with different planting space. This experiment was conducted using Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The treatment consisted of four planting space, (1) 70 cm x 40 cm, (2) 50 cm x 30 cm, (3) 40 cm x 20 cm, and (4) 10 cm x 10 cm, each treatment had five replications. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance and HSD test. The variables measured were agronomic characteristic indicated by plant height, number of leaf, width of leaf and length of leaf. The results showed that different planting space were significant different (P<0.01) on plant height, number of leaf, width of leaf and length of leaf. HSD test showed that planting space 70 cm x 40 cm were significant (P<0.01) have higher plant height, number of leaf, width of leaf and length of leaf than planting space 50 cm x 30 cm, 40 cm x 20 cm, and 10 cm x 10 cm. It can be concluded that planting space 70 cm x 40 cm have the highest agronomic characteristic by producing the highest plant height, number of leaf, width of leaf and length of leaf.Key words: sorghum, planting space, agronomi

    PRODUKTIVITAS Indigofera zollingeriana PADA BERBAGAI INTERVAL PEMOTONGAN

    THE PRODUCTIVITY OF Indigofera zollingeriana ON INTERVAL CUTTING.This research aims to know the effect of interval cutting on productivity of Indigofera zollingeriana underneath coconut plantation. The study was done based on completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 5 replications. The treatments in this study were : 1) I1 (cutting interval 30 days), 2) I2 (cutting interval 40 days), 3) I3 (cutting interval 50 days) and 4) I4 (cutting interval 60 days). The results showed that the effect of cutting interval significantly (P < 0.01) affect fresh and dry weight leaf and stem, and leaf/stem ratio Indigofera zollingeriana. Cutting interval 60 days have significantly (P<0,01) fresh and dry weight stem of Indigofera zollingeriana than cutting interval 30, 40 days but, there was no significant difference (P>0,05) from the 50 days cutting interval.  Cutting interval 60 days have significantly (P<0,01) fresh and dry weight leaf of Indigofera zollingeriana than cutting interval 30 and 40 days but, there was no significant difference (P>0,05) from the 50 days cutting interval.Cutting interval 50 days have significantly (P<0,01) leaf-stem ratio of Indigofera zollingeriana than cutting interval 30 and 40 days  but, there was no significant difference (P>0,05) from the 60 days cutting interval.     TINGKAH LAKU MAKAN, KAWIN, MENYUSUI DAN MENYUSU KELELAWAR PEMAKAN BUAH (Pteropus alecto) DI PENANGKARAN/ EX-SITU

    EATING, MATING, BREASTFEEDING, SUCKLING BEHAVIOR OF FRUIT EATING BATS IN EX-SITU /CAPTIVITY. The aim of this study was to understanding about behavior of the frugivores Pteropus alecto especially in ex-situ (captivity). Four adult male bats, 5 adult female bats, and 5 young bats were used in this study. The variable in this study is frequency and duration when doing eating behavior, mate behavior, breastfeeding behavior, and suckling behavior. The result of this study as follows; Eating behavior frequency in a hour 4.12 and duration in minute/hour 3.78 ; Mate behavior in a hour 0.57 and duration minute/hour 0.31; Breastfeeding average frequency in a hour 0.84 and duration minute/hour 2.16; Suckling frequency in a hour 0.69 and duration minute/hour 2.20. Based on the result it  can be concluded that the most frequency and  duration  by sequence is eating, mating, breastfeeding and suckling behavior. Keywords: Bats (Pteropus alecto), Ex-situ Captive, Behavior

    KECERNAAN NDF DAN ADF RANSUM KOMPLIT BERBASIS TEBON JAGUNG PADA SAPI PERANAKAN ONGOLE

    THE NDF AND ADF DIGESTIBILITY OF COMPLETE RATION BASED ON KING GRASS AND CORN FORAGE ON ONGOLE CROSSBRED CATTLE. Research has do it to evaluate intake capacity and digestibility of NDF and ADF complete feed based corn forage. Fourteen cows weighing between of one hundred eighty to two hundred and fifty kilogram were used through a biological experiment which arranged in two treatment groups, according to analyzed by T test unequal variance assumed. The treatments consisted of : Ra = 50% concentrate + 50% corn forage, Rb = 50% concentrate + 25% king grass + 25% corn forage. The variables meansured were intake capacity of NDF and ADF and digestibility of NDF and ADF. The results of T test showed that intake capacity of NDF and ADF and digestibility of NDF and ADF Rb significantly affected (P<0.05) significantly than Ra. It is concluded that intake capacity and digestibility of NDF and ADF completed feed based concentrate, corn forage and king grass is better than just based on concentrate and corn forage only. Key words : digestibility, NDF, ADF, completed feed, ongole crossbreed cow
