Development of differential magnetic force microscopy using high field micro-coils
Magnetic force microscopy (MFM) is a well-established technique for imaging magnetic stray fields at the nanoscale. However, conventional MFM images often suffer from artefacts arising from electrostatic interactions between the sample and the MFM probe. This issue is particularly pronounced when imaging heterogeneous samples with regions of varying Fermi levels, as well as samples with significant topographical variations, both of which can introduce unwanted signal contributions. A known solution to this problem is differential MFM imaging, a technique that involves subtracting two MFM images of the same sample region acquired with opposite probe magnetization directions. This approach effectively enhances the magnetic signal while eliminating electrostatic interference. However, previous implementations have relied on either the application of global magnetic fields or precise repositioning of the probe-sample system, both of which introduce experimental complexities.
This work addresses these challenges by introducing a post-processing technique based on image registration to align the two images required for differential MFM imaging. By eliminating the need for precise repositioning after switching the probe magnetization ex-situ, the presented method simplifies the experimental workflow. Here, image registration was performed using an algorithm that employs gradient descent on a cost function derived from the sample topography. This technique was demonstrated by imaging iron-filled carbon nanotubes (FeCNTs) deposited on silicon substrates, successfully extracting pure magnetic images that would otherwise be significantly affected by electrostatic artifacts in conventional MFM. Additionally, progress toward the development of an integrated magnetic nanowire-based MFM sensor with an embedded coil capable of in-situ switching of the probe magnetization is presented. FeCNTs were selected as candidate nanowires due to their exceptional mechanical and chemical stability. The magnetization switching behaviour of these FeCNTs was investigated through micromagnetic simulations of iron nanowires in both homogeneous and inhomogeneous magnetic fields, providing design requirements for the magnetic field distributions necessary for effective switching.
The high magnetic field strengths required for FeCNT magnetization reversal necessitated the design and fabrication of novel high-field micro-coils. These coils were developed iteratively through a four-stage design process, including finite element simulations, fabrication on silicon substrates, electrical characterization, and subsequent magnetic field simulations. Each iteration informed subsequent coil designs, with a primary focus on addressing the Joule heating issues while maintaining the required spatial current density distribution for high-field generation. Effective thermal management was achieved through the introduction of radial cuts in the coil design, facilitating heat dissipation while preserving the confined current path. The final coil design achieved a magnetic field exceeding 600 mT and a field gradient greater than 10^6 T/m. Finally, these micro-coils were successfully employed to reverse the magnetization direction of an FeCNT-based MFM probe, demonstrating their feasibility for integration into future MFM sensor designs.
Results of Adjustable Trans-Obturator Male System in Patients with Prostate Cancer Treated with Prostatectomy and Radiotherapy: A Multicenter Study
(1) Background: Treatment of male stress incontinence in patients with prostate cancer treated with radical prostatectomy and adjuvant pelvic radiation is a therapeutic challenge. The efficacy and safety of the adjustable trans-obturator male system (ATOMS) in these patients is not well established, despite the general belief that outcomes are worse than in patients without radiation. (2) Methods: Retrospective multicenter study evaluating patients treated with silicone-covered scrotal port (SSP) ATOMS implant after radical prostatectomy and radiotherapy in nine different institutions between 2016 and 2022. The primary endpoint was dry patient rate, defined as pad-test ≤ 20 mL/day. The secondary endpoints were complication rate (defined using Clavien–Dindo classification), device removal and self-perceived satisfaction using the Patient Global Impression of Improvement (PGI-I) scale. Wilcoxon rank-sum test, Fisher’s exact test and logistic regression were performed using stepwise method with a 0.15 entry and 0.1 stay criteria. (3) Results: 223 patients fulfilled the criteria for inclusion and 12 (5.4%) received salvage prostatectomy after radiation and 27 (12.1%) previous devices for stress incontinence. After ATOMS adjustment, 95 patients (42.6%) were dry and 36 (16.1%) had complications of any grade (grade I, n = 20; grade II, n = 11; grade III, n = 5) during the first 3 months postoperatively. At a mean of 36 ± 21 months follow-up, the device was explanted in 26 (11.7%) patients. Regarding self-perceived satisfaction with the implant, 105 of 125 patients (84%) considered themselves satisfied (PGI-I 1 to 3). In the univariate analysis, dryness was associated to younger age (p = 0.06), primary prostatectomy (p = 0.08), no previous incontinence surgery (p = 0.02), absence of overactive bladder symptoms (p = 0.04), absence of bladder neck stricture (p = 0.001), no need of surgical revision (p = 0.008) and lower baseline incontinence severity (p = 0.0003). Multivariate analysis identified absence of surgical revision (p = 0.018), absence of bladder neck stricture (p = 0.05), primary prostatectomy (p = 0.07) and lower baseline incontinence severity (p < 0.0001) were independent predictors of dryness. A logistic regression model was proposed and internally validated. (4) Conclusions: ATOMS is an efficacious and safe alternative to treat male incontinence after radical prostatectomy and adjuvant radiotherapy. Factors predictive of dryness are identified in this complex scenario to allow for better patient selection

Enhancing governance in German professional football: A multidimensional approach to systemic, organisational, and political influences
The dissertation titled “Enhancing governance in German professional football: A multidimensional approach to systemic, organisational, and political influences” explores how governance structures in German professional football address evolving challenges and stakeholder expectations. With a focus on three primary governance frameworks – systemic, organisational, and political – the study examines the roles of key entities, including the German Football League (DFL), and analyses how regulations, such as financial stability and the 50+1 rule, impact club operations. Through empirical and conceptual research, the dissertation identifies gaps in accountability, supporter involvement, and sustainability practices within German football clubs and leagues. It introduces the Club Governance Quality Score (CGQS) as a novel tool to evaluate governance effectiveness for professional football clubs. The findings reveal disparities in governance practices, with larger clubs typically showing better alignment with governance standards. Key recommendations emphasise improving stakeholder inclusion, harmonising financial regulation, introducing incentive mechanisms, promoting sustainable development, and refining the 50+1 rule to strengthen governance quality and stakeholder trust. This research contributes actionable guidelines aimed at fostering transparency, accountability, and sustainable development in German football governance.:I. TABLE OF CONTENTS

TABLE OF CONTENTS
