Health-Promoting Lifestyle: A Considerable Contributing Factor to Quality of Life in Patients With Hypertension
Abstract: Aim: Investigating the
relationship between health promoting
behaviors and quality of life in patients
with hypertension. Methods: In this
cross-sectional study, health-promoting
behaviors and quality of life in patients
with hypertension were assessed in
a cardiology clinic of a university
hospital in an urban area of Iran.
The sample consisted of 93 patients
with hypertension who were recruited
using a convenience sampling method.
Demographic data, Health Promoting
Lifestyle Behaviors Profile (HPLP II)
and World Health Organization
Quality of Life–BREF (WHOQOL-BREF)
questionnaires were used to gather
data. Data were analyzed using SPSS
software version 21. Results: The mean
score of health promoting behaviors
was moderate (2.51 ± 0.47) with
highest and lowest scores in nutritional
(2.80 ± 0.52) and physical activity
(1.78 ± 0.62) dimension, respectively.
There was a statistically significant
relationship between health-promoting
behaviors and quality of life. The
relationship between health-promoting
behaviors and quality of life had the
highest power in psychological health
dimension (β = 5.353, P < .001) and lowest power in the environmental
dimension (β = 0.365, P < .001).
Conclusion: Improving quality of life
of patients requires paying attention to
educational interventions for creating
changes in the lifestyle to improve all
aspects of quality of life
The Relationship between Different Levels of Health Literacy and Smoking Prevention Among Medical Sciences Student
Background: Higher rates of Smoking among university students have been reported in various
studies. On the other hand, health literacy (HL) can improve health behaviors. In fact, identifying
factors affecting the adoption of smoking preventive behaviors such as HL can help prevent
and reduce the prevalence of smoking among people. The aim of this study was to identify the
relationship between different levels of HL and adoption of smoking preventive behaviors among
university student in 2016. Methods: This was a cross‑sectional descriptive study. Three hundred
and forty‑seven dormitory students of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Iran
were selected through single‑stage cluster sampling for the study. Data were collected using a
measure of HL (the HL inventory for adults‑HELIA) and a designed questionnaire to assess the
adoption of smoking preventive behaviors. The data were analyzed using SPSS software version.
16 and descriptive statistical and Logistic regression test. Results: The mean (SD) of the score for
adoption of smoking preventive behaviors and HL were 45.91 (12.99) and 70.52 (14.12) out of 100,
respectively. The results showed that the adoption of smoking preventive behaviors had significant
relationship with variables such as HL, gender, father’s education and not smoking (P < 0.05).
Conclusions: Less adoption of smoking preventive behaviors was seen in students with lower levels
of HL, female students, students with illiterate fathers and smokers. Therefore, it seems essential to
take these factors into consideration in designing preventive programs for smoking in target groups
Weight Stigma Model on Quality of Life Among Children in Hong Kong: A Cross-Sectional Modeling Study
We proposed amodel to examine the relationship among different types of weight-related
stigmas and their relationship to quality of life (QoL). We recruited 430 dyads of
elementary school children [mean age = 10.07 years; nboy = 241 (56.0%); noverweight =
138 (32.1%)] and their parents. Parents completed QoL instruments about their children
assessing generic QoL and weight-related QoL. Children completed QoL instruments
assessing generic QoL and weight-related QoL and stigma scales assessing experienced
weight stigma, weight-related self-stigma, and perceived weight stigma. Experienced
weight stigma was significantly associated with perceived weight stigma, and in turn,
perceived weight stigma was significantly associated with weight-related self-stigma.
However, experienced weight stigma was not directly associated with weight-related
self-stigma. In addition, experienced stigma was negatively associated with both
child-rated and parent-rated QoL. Perceived weight stigma was associated only with
parent-rated weight-related QoL but not child-rated QoL. Self-stigma was associated
with child-rated QoL but not parent-rated QoL. Moreover, perceived weight stigma and
weight-related self-stigma were significant mediators in the association between body
weight and children’s QoL; experienced weight stigma was not a significant mediator.
The study findings can be used to inform healthcare providers about the relationship
among different types of stigmas and their influence on child-rated and parent-rated QoL
and help them develop interventions to address the global trend of overweight/obesity
in youth and pediatric populations

Electrocoagulation as a promising defluoridation technology from water: A review of state of the art of removal mechanisms and performance trends
Fluoride ions present in drinking water are beneficial to human health when at proper concentration levels (0.5-1.5 mg L-1), but an excess intake of fluoride (>1.5 mg L-1) may pose several health problems. In this context, reducing high fluoride concentrations in water is a major worldwide challenge. The World Health Organization has recommended setting a permissible limit of 1.5 mg L-1. The application of electrocoagulation (EC) processes has received widespread and increasing attention as a promising treatment technology and a competitive treatment for fluoride control. EC technology has been favourably applied due to its economic effectiveness, environmental versatility, amenability of automation, and low sludge production. This review provides more detailed information on fluoride removal from water by the EC process, including operating parameters, removal mechanisms, energy consumption, and operating costs. Additionally, it also focuses attention on future trends related to improve defluoridation efficiency. © 2021 by the authors. Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland
A Death Case Report in an Adult Woman With COVID-19 after Septoplasty
The mortality rate of Coronavirus Decease 2019 (COVID-19) is very high, but specific situations can increase
the rate including severe hypoxemia, multiple organ injury, and thromboembolic events in various
organs. Another factor is the stress caused after surgery that require general anesthesia. This study aims
to report a case of death in an adult woman with COVID-19 infection who had underwent septoplasty
and admitted to hospital after worsening of her general condition and treated when diagnosed with COVID-
19. One day after admission, she was intubated due to progressive respiratory failure and deceased
following bradycardia and cardiac arrest. It seems that the elective surgery should be avoided in patients
infected with COVID-19 and should be postponed until complete recovery. Moreover, the possibility of
this infection should be considered in all candidates for surgery with subtle respiratory symptoms
