Relationship between antifungal susceptibility profile and virulence factors in Candida albicans isolated from nail specimens
Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate some virulence factors in Candida albicans isolates from patients with onychomycosis and determine the correlation between these factors and the antifungal resistance profile.
Methods: Seventy species of C. albicans were confirmed using polymerase chain reaction amplification of the HWP1 gene. According to the Clinical & Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines, the susceptibility profile of four antifungal agents was investigated, and the production of aspartyl protease, phospholipase, haemolysin, and biofilm was determined. The correlation between these profiles was also investigated.
Results: The isolates indicated different levels of resistance and production of virulence factors. Significant correlations were observed between the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of fluconazole/itraconazole and biofilm production, between phospholipase production and fluconazole/ itraconazole MIC, and between fluconazole MIC and hemolytic activity in C. albicans isolates. The results also showed significant correlations between phospholipase activity and biofilm production.
Conclusions: Our findings will contribute to a better understanding of the pathogenesis of C. albicans and characterize the relationship between virulence factors and antifungal resistance, which may suggest new therapeutic strategies considering the possible involvement of the virulence mechanism in the effectiveness of treatment.

Genotypic and antimicrobial resistance characterizations of Cronobacter sakazakii isolated from powdered milk infant formula: A comparison between domestic and imported products
Cronobacter sakazakii, an opportunistic foodborne pathogen and a main cause of
meningitis in neonates, is usually isolated from powdered milk infant formula (PMIF).
At the present study, C. sakazakii were isolated from imported and domestically produced PMIF samples and identified by detection of ompA gene using real-time PCR
SYBR green melting curve following the evaluation of antimicrobial susceptibility and
genotyping of the isolates employing BOX-PCR and RAPD methods. We detected
totally 5% contamination rate and a significantly higher prevalence of C. sakazakii
in bulky imported domestically packaged PMIF samples. Also, our isolates were
recognized as multidrug-resistant pathogen completely resistant to ampicillin and
amoxicillin; and intermediately resistant to ciprofloxacin and tetracycline antimicrobials. Genotype clustering patterns of bulky imported and imported product isolates
were identical by both genotyping methods. Far genetic relatedness of domestic isolate to other isolates and the reference strain indicated higher genetic diversity of
the domestic isolate genome. Multidrug resistance and diverse population genetic
make complicated situation for determination of strategies for infectious disease
prevention
Effect of exercise training before mating on mRNA expression of breast cancer-related genes in offspring in rats | [Effet de l'entraînement physique avant l'accouplement sur l'expression de l'ARNm de gènes liés au cancer du sein chez la progéniture du rat]
Purpose. — Exercise is associated with reduced risk of breast cancer, however, effect of parental
exercise on risk of breast cancer in children has not been studied. Thus, the aim of the present
study was evaluating the effect of aerobic training of parents before pregnancy on the expression of some of the main genes in breast cancer in breast tissue of their offspring.
Method. — Eighteen female and 6 male Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into two
exercise training and control group. After training each male mated with 2 females. Parental
aerobic training with moderate intensity was performed running on treadmill for 4 weeks, 5
sessions per week. Finally Pairs 4, 5, and 6 of adult breast tissues was performed to evaluate
the expression of BRCA1, TP53, ER-, IGF-1 and IGF-1R

Evaluation of Tetracycline Antibiotic Residue in Honey Samples using ELISA and HPLC
Honey is used worldwide due to its medicinal and nutritional properties. Antibiotics are used to treat
diseases such as American foulbrood and European foulbrood or as a drug for preventing disease in the beehives.
Antibiotic residues should be carefully monitored because they can have adverse effects on the general health of
human. In this study, the amount of tetracycline residue was measured in honey samples. A total of 80 honey samples
were collected from different regions of Qazvin province, Iran. The methods used included enzyme-linked immunosorbent (ELISA) assay and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). ELISA method showed that the
maximum and minimum levels of tetracycline residue were 40 ppb and 1.26 ppb, respectively. The areas with values above the kit’s LOD include Takestan (14.28%), Abeyek (4.76%), and Alamot-e-gharbi (4.54%), respectively. In the
Alamot-e-sharghi samples, the antibiotic values above the kit’s LOD were not found. Samples with values above the
kit’s LOD in ELISA method were measured using HPLC method. According to ELISA results, of the 80 honey samples, 4 samples (5%) had antibiotic more than the highest LOD of the kit. These 4 samples were tested using HPLC method. The results of HPLC showed that out of 4 honey samples, one sample was more than 40 ppb, but 3 samples were less than 40 ppb. There is a significant difference between ELISA and HPLC (p < 0.05). If the antibiotic residue levels of tetracycline are too high in food, it can cause serious harm to the health of consumers, therefore, monitoring of antibiotics residue in food is very necessary
