Relationship of abo-rh blood groups with urinary tract infections in hospitalized patients
Background and Aim: There is no consensus in the literature on the relationship between
blood groups and risk of urinary tract infection (UTI). The present study was conducted to
evaluated the relationship of blood groups with UTI and determine the most common
bacterial cause of UTI in different blood groups.
Materials and Methods: This descriptive-analytical (cross sectional) study was conducted
from 2016 to 2018 in different wards of BouAli Sina Hospital. we used convenience
sequential sampling method. Characteristics and blood groups of UTI cases, and blood group
of all blood donors in Qazvin Province in 2018 were recorded. Using SPSS software 25, data
were analyzed by chi-square test. P<0.05 was considered significant.
Results: Of 244 patients, 57% were female and the mean age of the patients was
70.83±14.98. No significant difference was observed between UTI patients and healthy
population in regard to the distribution of ABO and Rh blood groups (P>0.05). There was not
a significant relationship between ABO and Rh groups and type of organism (P>0.05). The
most common organism responsible for UTI was E. coli in the participants with different
types of blood groups. The lowest rate of UTI due to E. coli (52%) belonged to O group and
the highest rate (71%) was associated with AB group.
Conclusion: In comparison with the healthy population, rate of UTI was not different among
the subjects with different blood groups. It seems that these antigens play a minor role in the
pathogenesis of UTI. E.coli was the most common organism responsible for UTI in the
participants with all blood subgroups
CD93 hematopoietic stem cells improve diabetic wound healing by VEGF activation and downregulation of DAPK-1
Diabetes is associated with numerous complications, such as diabetic skin wounds or
ulcerations. The aim of this study was to evaluate experimentally the effectiveness
of applying polycaprolactone (PCL)‐gelatin scaffold, with or without rat CD93
hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), in diabetic wound healing in a rat model. CD93
HSCs were aseptically isolated from rat bone marrow using fluorescent activated cell
sorting (FACS) method and FACS‐SORTER. A total of 25 Wistar rats were divided
into five groups including Group I (sham, nondiabetic, and wound covered only with
sterile dressing), II (control, diabetic rat), III (CD93 HSCs alone), IV (PCL‐gelatin
scaffold), and V (CD93 HSCs+PCL‐gelatin scaffold). Animals were killed on Days 7,
14, or 28 posttreatment and histological sections were blindly evaluated by two
expert pathologists. Death‐associated protein kinase 1 (DAPK‐1) gene and vesicular
endothelial growth factors (VEGF) protein expression were evaluated using reverse
transcription‐polymerase chain reaction and western blot, respectively. The thickest
and the thinnest epidermises microscopically were belonged to CD93+HSCs+scaffold
and the control group, respectively. The growth rate of the epidermis and adnexal
epithelia was the highest in both the cell and cell+scaffold groups. Evaluation of the
protein expression level of VEGF indicated that the expression levels of this growth
factor were the most on Day 7 posttreatment in sham, HSCs alone, and HSCs cell
+scaffold groups. While the lowest expression levels of this growth factor was
detected in the control and scaffold groups. The gene expression level of DAPK‐1 on
Day 7 posttreatment was higher than that of the Day 14 posttreatment in all groups.
The highest and lowest gene expression levels of DAPK‐1 belonged to control and
sham groups, respectively. According to our findings, CD93 HSCs offer new prospects
for the treatment of diabetic ulcers and concomitant application of these cells with
PCL‐gelatin nanofiber scaffold significantly improves diabetic wound treatment
Probiotic Viability, Physicochemical Characterization and Sensory Properties of Cornelian Cherry (Cornus mas L.) Juice Supplemented with Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactobacillus delbrueckii
A large variety of fruits and vegetables and a large number of Lactobacillus strains provide a great
opportunity for the development and industrialization of non-dairy beverages. In this study, Lactobacillus acidophilus
and Lactobacillus delbrueckii were used for cornelian cherry probiotic juice. Physicochemical factors such as the
survival of probiotic bacteria, acidity and the total amount of reducing carbohydrates in probiotic juice were studied.
After four weeks, the survival of Lactobacillus delbrueckii was significantly higher than other treatments (P<0.05).
After four weeks, no Lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria had survived. In terms of sensory evaluation, there was a
significant difference between two treatments of Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactobacillus delbrueckii, while the
treatment with Lactobacillus acidophilus probiotic bacteria was more acceptable than Lactobacillus delbrueckii
(P<0.05). Due to the sensory characteristics, the viability of bacteria, and other physicochemical properties, it can be
concluded that probiotic juice can be useful for human health if the probiotic bacteria can survive
Molecular characterization of fasciola and dicrocoelium species isolated from ruminant livestock in Qazvin, Iran
Introduction: Fascioliasis and dicrocoeliasis are the most frequent zoonotic diseases with increasing human health problems in different parts of Iran. Two species, Fasciola hepatica (F. hepatica) and Fasciola gigantica (F. gigantica), are spread in the country. Molecular ap-proaches have a decisive role in identifying both the species. The aim of this study was to detect Fasciola spp. and Dicrocoelium spp. by amplifying the ITS-2 and 28S rDNA gene sequence. Methods: Overall, 30 infected liver samples were collected from the livestock of Qazvin, Iran. The adult flukes were collected from different livestock. DNA extraction and PCR amplification of ribosomal RNA gene region (ITS2) and 28S rDNA gene fragment were conducted and a phylogenetic tree was constructed. Result: All the isolates obtained from the cattle (No: 7) and 82.6% (No: 19) of sheep isolates were infected with F. hepatica species, whereas 17.4% (No: 4) of sheep isolates were infected with F. gigantica. It was also shown that F. hepatica was the predominant species of Fasciola present in the region. All the specimens were infected with Dicrocoelium dendriticum (D. dendriticum). Conclusion: Both the species of Fasciola were found in Qazvin. D. dendriticum was the sole infecting species of the Dicrocoelium genus in the livestock of the city of Qazvin. Further research studies are needed to determine the intermediate host of the parasites in the region

Predictors of sexual assertiveness in a sample of Iranian married women of reproductive age
Sexual assertiveness and explicit conversations about sex between couples are influenced by variety of individual, cultural, and social factors. The purpose of this study was to investigate the predictors of sexual assertiveness in a sample of Iranian married women of reproductive age. In this cross-sectional study, 276 married women of reproductive age participated from October 2018 to March 2019. Sampling was done in two stages. Data were collected using demographic questionnaires, Hulbert sexual assertiveness scale, and Spanier dyadic adjustment scale. Univariate and multivariate linear regression models via ENTER method through SPSS (version 25) software were performed. The mean age of participants was 31.44years old with the mean marriage duration of 119.59months. The mean score of participants’ sexual assertiveness was 57.31. The results of the multivariate regression model showed that marital adjustment (B¼0.46, SE¼0.06, b¼0.5, 95% CI ¼ 0.35, 0.57) was the only significant predictors of sexual assertiveness explaining 30% of the variance, in married women of reproductive age. Due to important predictive role of marital adjustment, more attention should be given to couples adjustment to improve sexual assertiveness. In addition, this model explained only 30% of the variance in the concept of sexual assertiveness, so it is necessary to identify other factors affecting women’s sexual assertiveness
