Antibacterial Effects of Kumquat Peel Essential Oil on Staphylococcus Aureus and Escherichia Coli Bacteria in Comparison With Some Standard Antibiotics
Background Studies have been conducted on citrus fruits and their essential oils in terms of preservative
properties and the effect on food safety.
Objective This study aimed to examine the antibacterial effects of kumquat peel essential oil.
Methods In this experimental study, Kumquat fruit was purchased from the market in Qazvin, Iran.
Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) of kumquat
peel essential oil against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli strains were measured using broth
microdilution method (the range of essential oil concentrations was 25000-12500-6250-3125-1562.5-
781.25-390.625-195.31-97.655-48.82 μg/ml), and the diameter of the bacteria growth inhibition zone
was determined by diffusion method (the percentage of essential oil was (4×105 μg/ml) and then compared
with standard 106-8×105-6×105 -antibiotics. For statistical analysis, independent t-test and oneway
ANOVA were used.
Findings Their mean levels of MIC and MBC for the essential oil against the Staphylococcus aureus were
0.42±0.18 and 1.04±0.3, and against the Escherichia coli, they were 0.26±0.09 and 0.42±0.18, respectively.
Under Disk diffusion, the highest mean diameter of growth inhibition zone for Staphylococcus
aureus and Escherichia coli were obtained 12.1 and 10.17 mm, respectively.
Conclusion The kumquat peel essential oil has a significant antimicrobial effect on the study bacteria. As
an herbal product, it can be useful as an alternative to synthetic drugs and food additives
Role of service quality, trust and loyalty in building patient-based brand equity: Modeling for public hospitals

This study aimed to find factors influencing on the brand equity of hospitals.in the cross sectional study, Firstly, the factors affecting the brand equity were identified Subsequently, by holding the panel of experts, the effective factors were taken into account After standardization, the questionnaire was given to 450 admitted patients in Qazvin’s hospitals. Finally, the causal relationship between the variables was evaluated using the Structural Equation Model (SEM) on AMOS22 software, with a significant level of 0.05. Analysis of findings revealed all fit indices were in an acceptable level. The path coefficient between brand trust and brand loyalty with brand equity was positive (t>1.96). Study result is necessary for hospitals to prioritize attention to dimensions and factors affecting brand equity in order to maintain their place in society and provide effective service
The branding process for healthcare centers: Operational strategies from consumer’s identification to market development

The data collection tool was a semi-structured interview and a researcher-made questionnaire. Branding process was conceptualized in 5steps, including Market Identification, Brand Identity, Brand Positioning, Development and Consolidation Strategy. All path coefficients were defined in the range. The results of the indices showed that the fit was good and the final model was valid. The activities of Medical centers should be based on the identification of the target market. Unique services with new knowledge and equipment and experienced clinical staff to meet patients’ needs with appropriate price and quality have to be provided

Effect of Acupressure on Dynamic Balance in Elderly Women: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Background: Balance disorders are common in the elderly and are
a major cause of falls. This study aimed to determine the effect of
acupressure on dynamic balance in elderly women.
Methods: This randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted on
72 elderly women in Qazvin, Iran. The intervention group received
rotary massage using the thumb at the pressure points for 4 weeks, 3
times a week for 20 minutes each session. Dynamic balance in both
groups was measured before, 2 and 4 weeks after the intervention
using timed up and go test and the step test. Data were analyzed using
two way repeated measures ANOVA.
Results: The mean age of participants was 67.34 ± 6.30 with a range of
60 to 80 years old. The results showed statistically significant improvement in the dynamic balance quantified by timed up and go test (%
Δ = 26.53) and step test for the right (%Δ = 35.22) and left (Δ% = 32.62)
legs (p < .001). However, in the control group, no significant change
was observed in the dynamic balance after completion of the program.
Conclusion: The results support that acupressure therapy can be an
effective, safe, and inexpensive method to improve the dynamic balance and maintain maximum autonomy of the elderl
Molecular epidemiology of Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates in Iran using Spoligotyping
Spoligotyping can help assess the transmission of Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains. We aimed to study the genotyping of M. tuberculosis isolated from patients with tuberculosis from the west of Iran by spoligotyping. Forty-seven M. tuberculosis isolates were collected from the west of Iran. All samples were cultured on Löwenstein-Jensen medium incubated at 37°C for 8 weeks. Bacterial isolates were identified as M. tuberculosis using standard biochemical tests. Drug resistance patterns of M. tuberculosis to rifampicin and isoniazid were determined, and multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains were isolated. After DNA extraction, spoligotyping was performed. We found new spoligotypes 4162 and 4163, which correlated with atypical lineage. Atypical and unknown lineages also had correlations with the MDR tuberculosis rate (4%). The most prevalent spoligointernational types were orphan (34%), 2669 (23.4%) and 127 (14.8%) types. The most prevalent clades were Ural-2 (NEW-1) (25.53%) and atypical (23.40%) lineages. The predominant clade was Ural-2 (NEW-1) and an atypical lineage restricted to Iran. The rate of MDR was low. Knowledge of the circulating isolates in the west of Iran will help implement control programmes, so knowledge of the dynamic transmission of local isolates is crucial.

Lack of association between COL1A1 and COL9A2 single nucleotide polymorphisms and intervertebral disc degeneration
Background: Collagens are the main components of the extracellular matrix of intervertebral
discs. The genetic mutations in collagen genes could potentially play a causal role in
pathophysiology of intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD). In this study, we investigate the
association of COL1A1 and COL9A2 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with IVDD.
Material and Methods: ninety-six Iranian IVDD patients and 94 controls matched for age and
sex were included. 5 cc of peripheral blood samples were obtained for DNA extraction using
the Phenol–Chloroform method. The primers for SNPs COL1A1 rs909102 and COL9A2 were
designed based on the TaqMan protocol and genotyped by real-time PCR with TaqMan.
Results: The ‘T’ allele, ‘CC’ and ‘TT’ genotypes of COL1A1 rs909102 were more common
among patients, however not significantly. Despite the similar allele distribution of COL9A2
rs137853213 in patients and controls, the homozygote genotypes were more frequent among
patients, though this was not significant either. Conclusion: The allele and genotype
distributions of COL1A1 rs909102 and COL9A2 rs137853213 SNPs were not significantly
associated with IVDD in an Iranian population.

Antibacterial effects of Artemisa aucheri leaf and Spirulina Blue-Green algae aqueous and alcoholic extracts on the multidrug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated from the patients with pneumonia
Background and Aim: Antibacterial effects of Artemisia plant and algae have been confirmed. The
purpose of this study was to evaluate the antibacterial effect of antibiotics, Spirulina blue-green algae
and Artemisa aucheri leaf extracts on multidrug resistant (MDR) Klebsiella pneumoniae.
Materials and Methods: Disk and well diffusion method, the growth minimum inhibitory and
bactericidal concentrations (MIC and MBC) were used to evaluate antibacterial effects. Using SPPS
16 soaftware, data were analyzed by analysis of variance (ANOVA) with repeated measures and
Bonferroni test (p≤0.001).
Results: The MIC and MBC for amikacin, colicitin, ceftazidime were 4 and for gentamicin and
nalidixic acid were 2 and 1 μg/μl, respectively. In disk and well diffusion methods, the highest growth
inhibition zones belonged to ethanolic extracts (0.25 mg/ml) of Artemisia and algae. The best MIC and
MBC for growth were related to ethanolic extracts of A. aucheri at the concentration of 0.15 mg/ml.
The diameter of growth inhibition zone around the bacterium was directly related to the concentrations
of Artemisia and Algae extracts (p = 0.000).
Conclusion: Considering the beneficial antibacterial effects of Spirulina blue-green algae and A.
aucheri which were confirmed in this study, extraction of the active ingredients of medicinal plants is
recommended for the mass production of herbal medicines
