    USING DISCOVERY LEARNING METHOD TO IMPROVE READING COMPREHENSION OF THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA NEGERI 2 SIGI

    The objective of this research is to prove that using discovery learning methods can improve reading comprehension of the eleventh grade students of SMA NEGERI 2 SIGI. The research applied pre-experimental design. The data were obtained from pre-test and post-test. The population was class XI students at SMA Negeri 2 Sigi. Consisting of 228 students from eight classes. The sample is class IPS 2 as the experimental group. Sample selection was carried out in cluster random sampling. Tests were used to collect data consisting of pre-test and post-test. The test result showed that the average pretest score obtained by the experimental group is 61.55. Then, the average post-test score for the experimental group is 81.45. By applying the 0.05 level significance, the researcher found the sig value obtained (p) was lower than (α) (0,000<0,05) it means that the hypothesis is accepted or using discovery learning method can improve reading comprehension of grade eleventh students of SMA Negeri 2 Sigi. This research implies that the use of discovery learning encourages students to develop research and reflective skills that can be applied across various situations and for teachers to have additional ways of teaching English to their students, especially by using discovery learning methods

    ANALYSIS STUDENTS’ PROBLEMS IN LEARNING LISTENING COMPREHENSION SKILLS

    This research is aimed to identify students’ problems of listening comprehension skill. The researcher took the third semester students as the respondents in this research. The research design used in this research is descriptive qualitative research. 15 students out of 294 students were selected as the respondents. They were given questionnaire to collect the data for this qualitative research. Questionnaire result was analyzed based on thematic analysis procedures. Questionnaire was done by given twenty assessment prepared. Based on the result of this research, the students had three major problems in learning listening comprehension, first length and speed and variety accent, second lack of vocabulary and the last is lack of concentration. From the results of these findings, the researcher suggests two strategies. First for the students, the students are expected to be able to practice and get used to hearing various accents and different speed variations. Regular vocabulary practice looking for relevant learning resources can improve students’ vocabulary and the last is prioritizing listening, active involvement, and applying concentration techniques can help students overcome concentration disorders and improve students’ listening comprehension. Second, for the lecturer by knowing students’ problems learning listening comprehension, the lecturer can effectively support students in improving their listening skills and achieve better results for students to learning listening comprehension skills

    A STUDY ON STRATEGIES USED IN DEVELOPING SPEAKING SKILLS

    The objective of this study is to examine and analyze articles concerning the strategies used in developing speaking skills published in between 2018 to 2023. This research employs library research methodology, which involves using library sources to gather and analyze data. The research results shows that the strategies used in developing speaking skills are Communication Strategies, Task-Based Approaches, Role-Play, and Technology-Enhanced Approaches and the most frequently used strategies are Role-Play, and Technology-Enhanced Approaches. To implement the two most frequent strategies used, educators need a careful planning and consideration. They should introduce concepts, select relevant content, and provide clear instructions. Technology can enhance authenticity and engagement in speaking activities by utilizing tools like YouTube, digital storytelling, or educational comics. In conclusion, this research provides valuable insights into the strategies employed to develop speaking skills

    AN ANALYSIS OF ERRORS MADE BY STUDENTS OF SMAN 1 BUNGKU TENGAH IN TRANSFORMING ENGLISH ACTIVE SENTENCES TO PASSIVE VOICE

    This study aims to describe the most dominant types of errors made by students in transforming active English sentences into passive sentences and to find out the causes of students making errors. The subjects of this study were class XII students of SMAN 1 Bungku Tengah. The samples are 24 students were taken using convenience sampling. This study used qualitative research and data collection using tests items and interviews. The data were identified, classified, and analyzed based on surface strategy taxonomy of Dulay’s theory, namely error of omission with percentage 25,13%, the error of addition with percentage 6,81%, the error of misformation with percentage 65,45% which was established as the dominant error, and error of misordering with percentage 2,62%. Based on the results of interviews, the causes of errorness were, 1) Students did not understand the formula according to tenses, 2) Students were still confused about the use of "to be", 3) Students still lacked vocabulary

    THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING VISUAL VOCABULARY APPLICATION TO IMPROVE STUDENT’S VOCABULARY MASTERY

    The objective of the research is to find out whether or not the media can improve vocabulary mastery of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 32 Sigi. The researchers focused on noun and adjective.  In this research, the researchers used a quasi-experimental design. The researchers used Visual Vocabulary Application as a media.  The experimental group consisted 22 students, while the control group consisted 25 students. The instrument in collecting the research data was a test. The test was given to students twice as pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed statistically. Students’ mean score of experimental group of pre-test (30.45) and post-test (65.22) is 36.59. While the control group of pre-test (20.6) and post-test (35) is 16.2. It means that Visual Vocabulary Application is significantly improve the ability of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 32 Sigi

    IDENTIFYING STUDENTS' PERCEPTION IN LEARNING ENGLISH VOCABULARY THROUGH FAST VOCABULARY GAME

    This research aims to discover students' perception of learning English vocabulary through Fast Vocabulary Game. A qualitative approach was used in this research. The subject was the grade VII students at SMPN 2 Dapurang Pasangkayu who have experienced using the Fast Vocabulary Game. The instruments used were questionnaires and interview questions. There were nine questions in the questionnaires filled out by five respondents. Two informants answered five questions in the interview. The result indicates that students' perception of learning English vocabulary through Fast Vocabulary is dominantly positive. Learning English vocabulary using the game is easy, enjoyable, fun, and accessible as long as an internet connection is available. The vocabulary that is available in the game is easy to understand. Fast vocabulary game makes it easier for students to learn and memorize new vocabulary.

    This research aims to find out the difficulties in writing descriptive text faced by the eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Palu. The researcherss applied descriptive quantitative design. There were 10 students involved. The instrument of data collection was a writing text. The data were collected by asking the students to write a descriptive text. The findings show that the most difficulty of writing in each aspect was mechanics 77.16% of students, grammar 21.1% of students,  vocabulary 1.23% of students and content and organization 0% of students

    THE IMPLEMENTATION OF PROJECT BASED LEARNING IN IMPROVING READING COMPREHENSION OF THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA NEGERI 2 SIGI

    The objective of this research is to prove whether the implementation of Project Based Learning (PjBL) can improve reading comprehension of the eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Sigi. This research used a quasi-experimental research design that consisted of two groups: an experimental and control groups. The sample was selected using a purposive sampling technique. The sample of this research was 58 eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Sigi, 28 students from class XI IPA 2 as the experimental group, and 30 students from class XI IPA 1 as the control group. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test. Data were analyzed using a t-test to compare the experimental and control groups' pre-test and post-test mean scores. The mean score pre-test for the experimental group was 63.93 and the control group was 66.58. Then, the mean score of the students' post-test score for the experimental group was 74.73, and the control group was 71.33. By applying 0.05, level of significance, it is found that the t-counted value (4.56) is higher than the t-table value (1.673). Therefore, the research hypothesis is accepted. This result indicates that the implementation of PjBL in this study effectively improved the students’ reading comprehension. The implication of these findings is that in teaching reading, teachers can apply the PjBL method during the teaching and learning process as one of the effective methods to improve students' reading comprehension

    USING PARTNER READING STRATEGY TO IMPROVE READING COMPREHENSION OF GRADE EIGHT STUDENTS AT SMPN 2 TANANTOVEA

    The objective of the research is to determine if using Partner Reading Strategy can improve reading comprehension of grade eight students of SMPN 2 Tanantovea. This research was conducted through a quasi experimental research design in which the sample of the research was selected using a simple random sampling technique. This research used a reading comprehension test as the instrument. The data collection of this research were analyzed statistically in order to find out the significant difference between two groups on the posttest after the treatment using Partner Reading Strategy given to the experimental group. It was found that the mean scores of both the experimental and control groups on the posttest were respectively 70 and 42. Furthermore, referring to the ttable value of df 44 (23+23-2) by applying 0.05 level of significance on one-tailed test, it was found that the tcounted value of this research (16) was higher than the ttable value (1.7). It implies that using Partner Reading Strategy can improve reading comprehension of grade eight students of SMPN 2 Tanantove

    USING HOMOPHONE GAMES TO IMPROVE PRONUNCIATION FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT

    The objective of this research is to prove that the use of homophone games can improve pronunciation of the eleventh grade students at SMKN 1 Sojol. This research applied pre-experimental research design. The sample of this research was 21 eleventh grade students of ATPH 1 (Agribisnis Tanaman Pangan dan Horticultura) as known as Agriculture major, consisting of 21 students. The sample was selected by using a purposive sampling technique. The data were collected by administering a pronunciation test conducted before and after treatment, called pre-test and post-test. The result of pre-test and post-test shows that the mean score of pre-test is 34.44, and the mean score of post-test is 76.19. The result of data is analyzed statically by applying t-test formula. The result of data analysis shows that the value of the t-counted is(4.30) was higher than the t-table value (1.725) by applying 0.05 level of significance and 20 degree of freedom (df) 21-1 =20. The implication of this finding is to the betterment of teaching pronunciation is that the teacher needs to use  Homophone Games to improve students’ pronunciation.Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk membuktikan bahwa penggunaan permainan homofon dapat meningkatkan pelafalan siswa kelas sebelas di SMKN 1Sojol. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian pra experiment. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 21 siswa kelas sebelas ATPH 1 (Agribisnis Tanaman Pangan dan Hortikultura) dikenal sebagai jurusan pertanian, terdiri dari 21 siswa. Sampel dikumpukan dengan teknik purposive sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan memberikan tes pelafalan yang dilakukan sebelum  dan sesudah perlakuan, yang disebut pre-test and post-test. Hasil pre-test menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata pre-test adalah 34.44, dan nilai rata-rata post-test adalah76.19. Hasil data dianalisis secara statis dengan menerapkan rumus uji-t. hasil analisis data menunjjukan bahwa nilai t-hitung (4.30) lebih besar dari t-tabel (1,725) dengan menerapkan taraf signifikansi 0,05 dan 20 derajat kebebasan (df) 21-1=0. Implikasinya dari temuan ini adalah untuk perbaikan pengajaran pengucapan adalah bahwa guru perlu menggunakan permainan homofon untuk meningkatkanpengucapan sisw
