INVESTIGATING ABILITY IN WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT OF GRADE VIII STUDENTS AT SMP NEGERI 18 SIGI
This research aims to find out whether the application of descriptive text is effective in improving the writing skills of grade 8 (eight) students at SMP Negeri 18 Sigi. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods. This population is students in class 8 (eight) of Sigi State Middle School, consisting of 100 people. Sample selection was carried out in total. The test was used to collect data consisting of a pre-test and post-test. The test results showed that the average pre-test score obtained was 59.58. After carrying out the post test the results showed that there were 85% of students who were competent and 15% who were not competent. Increasing students' abilities means that the application of descriptive text to grade 8 (eight) students at SMP Negeri 18 Sigi was declared successful
STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION OF THE USE OF DUOLINGO APPLICATION IN LEARNING GRAMMAR
This research aims to find out students' perceptions on the use of Duolingo Application in learning grammar as an alternative media to students of SMA Negeri 1 Sindue Tombusabora. The subjects of this research were 26 tenth grade students of X MIPA1 SMA Negeri 1 Sindue Tombusabora. This type of research is a qualitative research method that describes the results of using Duolingo Application. The instruments used to collect data were interviews and questionnaires. The results of the data analysis show that the use of Duolingo Application in learning grammar has a positive perceptions on students. The results are also strengthened by the students’ perceptions that Duolingo Application was very positive for grammar learning. It can help the students learn about sentence structure, simple tenses, word class, and more. Most students responded that Duolingo Application motivated them to write sentences. The results of this research can be concluded that Duolingo Application has a positive effect on students in learning grammar
RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HABIT IN WATCHING ENGLISH MOVIES AND VOCABULARY
This research aimed to identify the relationship between habit of watching English movie and vocabulary of grade VIII students' at SMP Negeri 6 Palu. It applied correlation research with a quantitative data approach. Students of Class VII-A, which consisted of twenty-five students, were selected as the sample for this research using the purposive sampling technique. The instruments of this research were questionnaires, vocabulary tests, and the SPSS 26th version. The result of data analysis using the correlation coefficient product moment and SPSS 26th indicated the relationship between students' habit in watching English movies and vocabulary is positive in the high category of relationship (0,702) with a significant level (α = 0.05). Then, comparing the value of the r-counted, which is higher than the r-table, indicates that students' habits of watching English movies contribute to their vocabulary. Therefore, students with a high frequency of habits in watching English movies have a higher probability of gaining a lot of new vocabulary
IMPROVING STUDENTS’ SPEAKING MASTERY THROUGH CULTURE-BASED LEARNING (CBL) CONTENT
This research focuses on the use of Culture-Based Learning (CBL) as learning content to improve students' mastery of English speaking. This research aims to look at the use of Culture-Based Learning (CBL) in improving the English-speaking mastery of class VII students at MTs. Negeri Tojo Una-Una. MTs Negeri Tojo Una-una is located in the District of Ratolindo, Tojo Una-una Regency, Central Sulawesi. The population in this research were all class VII students for the 2022/2023 school year with the amount of 77 students. This research method is a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design using a sample of students in class VII A and VII B with a total of 50 students obtained by purposive sampling technique. To collect data, this research uses tests as instruments, namely pre-test and post-test given in the form of the oral test either in groups or individually. Based on the research findings, it was concluded that the use of Culture-Based Learning (CBL) as learning content shows a significant improvement. This is shown by the percentage improvement of 44.50% in students who are members of the experimental group, while in the control group, there is only an improvement of 10.60% from the pre-test, treatment, to the post-test
ENHANCING SPEAKING SKILL OF THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA NEGERI 2 SIGI THROUGH THE USE OF TIK TOK APPLICATION
Adinda Delima Rameisyah (2024). Enhancing Speaking Skill of the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Negeri 2 Sigi Through the Use of Tik Tok Application. English Education study program Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, under the guidance of Mochtar Marhum and Andi Patmasari. The purpose of this study to find out whether the use of the Tik Tok Application has a significant effect as a teaching tool and in enhance the speaking skills of elevents grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Sigi. This study uses a experimental class and control class. The numbers of this study were 25 students, the sample was elevents grade students at Sma Negeri 2 Sigu. Data were obtained before and after treatment, students were given a pre-test and post-test, while data were analyzed using the T-test and data obtained from the pretest and posttest were analyzed through SPSS. The results showed that there was a significant difference in students' speaking scores. Based on the sig value of the paired sample test (2-tailed) is 0.000 <0.05, meaning that Ha is accepted while Ho is rejected. It can be concluded that the use of Tik Tok Application has a significant effect on enhance the speaking skills of elevents grade students of Sma Negeri 2 Sigi
USING COOPERATIVE LEARNING STRATEGY TO IMPROVE WRITING SKILLS OF GRADE TEN STUDENTS OF SMA NEGERI 7 PALU
The objective of this research is to find out if using Cooperative Learning Strategy can improve students’ writing skills of grade ten students at SMA Negeri 7 Palu. The researchers applied quasi-experimental design with two classes: experimental and control classes. The experimental class consisted of 34 students and control class consisted of 35 students selected through cluster random sampling technique. In collecting data, the researchers administered pretest and posttest to both the experimental class and control class. The data were analyzed statistically in order to find out the significant difference of students’ achievement before and after treatments. Using 0.025 level of significance and 67 degree of freedom (df), the researchers found that the value of t-table was 1.998, which was lower than the t-counted 3.57. It means that the hypothesis is accepted. In other words, using Cooperative Learning Strategy can improve students’ writing skills
IMPROVING READING COMPREHENSION OF GRADE X STUDENTS AT SMK NEGERI 1 DAMPAL SELATAN TOLITOLI THROUGH DRTA (DIRECTED READING THINKING ACTIVITY)
The objective of this research is to find out whether the use of DRTA (Directed Reading Thinking Activity) strategy can improve the reading comprehension of class X students of SMK Negeri 1 Dampal Selatan or not. This research used a pre-experimental design that involved only one class as the experimental class. The sample of this research was class X TKJ with 31 students as the experimental class selected by using purposive sampling technique. The instruments of data collection were tests, they were pretest and posttest. The experimental class was given treatment by using the DRTA (Directed Reading Thinking Activity) strategy. The data were analyzed statistically to measure the difference in score. The results shows an increase between the pretest and posttest results. The students means score before given the treatment was 51.10. After the treatment, the means score of students in the posttest was 71.48. By applying a significant level of 0.05, the researchers found that the value of t-counted (5.31) was higher than the t table (1.697). Based on these results, it can be concluded that the DRTA (Directed Reading Thinking Activity) strategy is effective to improve reading comprehension of grade X students at SMK Negeri 1 Dampal Selatan and it can be applied by teachers in teaching and learning process
IDENTIFYING LEARNING OUTCOMES IN STUDENTS’ PARAGRAPH WRITING
The purpose of this research is to know the students’ learning outcomes in writing paragraphs. There are five indicators in writing descriptive paragraphs: content, organization, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics. Its subjects were eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Ampibabo. From a total population of 80 students, 25 students were selected as the sample of the research. This research applied descriptive research design. In collecting data, the researcher gave a test of writing descriptive paragraphs to the students to find out their ability of students in writing paragraphs. In this case, the highest score of 25 students in the class, was 95 which is considered an excellent level. The lowest result gets a score of 40 which is considered the fair level. Thus, generally, the students’ mean score of writing ability particularly in writing paragraphs was 63.2 and it was considered a good level of ability. Thus, from the data presentation, it can be concluded that the learning outcomes in the writing paragraph of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Ampibabo were at a good level.  
CORRELATION BETWEEN GRAMMAR MASTERY AND WRITING SKILLS OF 4th-semester STUDENTS
The objective of this research is to find out the correlation between grammar mastery and writing skills. The researchers applied a correlational research design. There were two variables in this research, they were grammar mastery as variable X and writing skills as Variable Y. The researchers took the 4th-semester students as the population and the sample of this research. In selecting the sample, the researchers used a random sampling technique. 3 students from each class were taken randomly as the sample of this research. The total sample was 18 students. In conducting this research, the researchers used two tests. The tests were grammar and writing tests. A grammar test measured students’ competence in simple past tense. The test consists of 20 multiple-choice questions. The test is aimed at collecting data on students’ grammar mastery. In the writing test, the students chose one of three topics that were provided in the test’s instructions. The students wrote the text in the form of a recount text. The data were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. The result shows that the correlation coefficient between students’ grammar mastery and writing skills is 0.630. The result is categorized as substantial or high. It indicates that there is a positive correlation between grammar mastery and writing skills of 4th-semester students of the English Education Study Program of Tadulako University. It means that the students who have good grammar mastery also have good writing skills and the students who lack grammar mastery also have poor writing skills because grammar is one important aspect that influences students’ writing skills. The implementation of this finding in the teaching of writing skills is that the lecturers must find a way to integrate the teaching of writing skills with grammar
USING FAIRY TALE ILLUSTRATED VERSION TO IMPROVE STUDENTS READING COMPREHENSION
The research aims to find out whether using Fairy Tale Illustrated Version can improve students reading comprehension of the tenth grade students of MAN 2 Kota Palu. The researcher applied quasi-experimental research design. The samples of this research were 64 students, which were divided into 33 students of class X MIPA 2 as the experimental group and 31 students of class X MIPA 1 as the control group. The samples were selected use purposive sampling technique. The data were collected through the reading test that consisted of pre-test and post-test. The result of the pre-test shows that the mean score of the experimental group is 45.33 while the mean score of the control group is 49.68. This demonstrated that the pre-test mean score of the experimental group were lower compared to the control group. After conducting the treatment, the result of the post-test shows that the mean score of the experimental group is 71.76 while the mean score of the control group is 59.87 It indicates that the experimental group has shown improvement in their reading comprehension compared to the control group. By applying 62 degree of freedom (df) and 0.05 level of significance, it can be seen that the t-counted (9.20) is higher than the ttable (1.999). It means that the hypothesis was accepted or Using Fairy Tale Illustrated Version can improve students’ reading comprehension of The Tenth Grade of MAN 2 Kota Palu
