    THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING RECIPROCAL TEACHING STRATEGY TO IMPROVE READING COMPREHENSION OF THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA NEGERI 1 SOJOL

    This research aims to determine whether using the Reciprocal Teaching strategy can improve reading comprehension of the tenth grade studetns of SMA Negeri 1 Sojol. The researcher applied a quasi-experimental design by using purposive sampling to get the sample. The instruments of data collection were pre-test and post-test. The pre-test was used to measure students’ basic abilities and the post-test was used to measure the students’ improvement in reading comprehension after the researcher applied the treatment. The t-test was analyzed to compare the mean scores of the experimental group (77.23) and the control group (74.71). The significance level was 0.05 with 60 degree of freedom (df = 65). The result of data analysis indicated that the t-counted (6.54) is higher than the t-table (1.659). Based on the results, the hypothesis of this research is accepted. It can be concluded that using Reciprocal Teaching strategy is effective to improve reading comprehension of the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sojol

    THE USE OF KAHOOT GAMES APPLICATION TO IMPROVE VOCABULARY MASTERY OF THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS AT SMP NEGERI 32 SIGI

    The research aimed to find out the improvement of the students‘ vocabulary mastery by using kahoot games applications that focused on verbs and nouns. The research applied pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test. The sample of the research was the eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 32 Sigi in academic year 2023/2024 which consisted of 29 students. The researcher used verbs and nouns of vocabulary test as instruments in pre-test and post-test. The research findings indicated that kahoot games application can improve students‘ vocabulary mastery. It was proved by the mean score of pre-test was 58.86 it classified as fair, post-test was 73.34, it classified as good and the improvement from pre-test to post-test was 24.60. Therefore there was the improvement of the students‘ vocabulary mastery. The result of improvement is also proved with t-test value. The researcher found that the value of t-test (7.352) was greater than t-table (2.048). This value means that there is a significant difference between the result of the students‘ pre-test and post test.  The conclusion could be strengthened by stating the significance of the findings more clearly. e.g. "It was concluded that the use of the Kahoot games application can effectively improve the vocabulary mastery of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 32 Sigi

    USING CLICK AND CLUNK STRATEGY TO IMPROVE READING COMPREHENSION

    The objective of this research is to find out whether the click and clunk strategy can improve reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 14 Palu. This research used a quantitative method and a quasi-experimental design. The population of this research was eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 14 Palu with consisting of 128 students. The researchers used random sampling and adapted two groups: VIII Imam Bonjol and VIII Slamet Riyadi (experimental and control). The instrument of this research was a test, which was divided into two tests (pre-test and post-test). The result of this research showed that there were significant differences of students’ reading comprehension after being taught through KWL where the data analysis show that value of t-counted (1.908) is higher that the value of t-table (1.683) by applying a significance level of 0.05 with a degree of freedom (df) = 42. It means that the hypothesis is accepted. In other words, it means that the use of click and clunk strategy can improve students’ reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 14 Palu.&nbsp

    THE USE OF SCRABBLE GAME TO DEVELOP VOCABULARY OF THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP NEGERI 19 PALU

    This research is aimed at proving whether the use of Scrabble game can develop the vocabulary of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 19 Palu. This research used a quasi-experimental research design with a sample of 54 students selected using a purposive sampling technique because the selected classes were VIII B and VIII C. In gathering the test, the instrument used was a vocabulary test administered twice as pre-test and post-test. The pre-test was given to the experimental and control groups before the treatment while the post-test was carried out to the experimental and control groups after the treatment. The mean score of the experimental group on pre-test was 39.77 and the control group was 46. Then, the mean score of the experimental group on post-test was 77 and the control group was 59.57. The data were statistically analyzed using the t-counted formula with degrees of freedom (df) = Nx + Ny - 2 = 26 +28 - 2 = 52. The findings show that the t-counted value is 5.896 while the t-table value is 2.006. It means that the t-counted is higher than the t-table. Therefore, the research hypothesis is accepted. It includes that Scrabble game can develop the vocabulary of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 19 Palu. The implication of this finding is that teachers need to use Scrabble game in teaching vocabulary designed to make students actively participate and enjoy learning English in the classroom

    TEACHERS’ STRATEGIES IN TEACHING ENGLISH TO GRADE X STUDENTS AT MAN 2 KOTA PALU

    The purpose of this research are two folds: to find out the teaching strategies used by the English teacher at MAN 2 Kota Palu, and to identify the reasons of implementing the strategies in the classroom.  This research used qualitative research design. The participant of this research were two English teacher. In collecting the data, the instrument used were observation and interview . the data analyzed by using descriptive analysis. The findings showed that there were some teaching strategies used by the teachers in teaching English. The strategies used by the teacher in teaching English were: (1) the use of video like  writing recount text and favorite song (by relying on learning topic), (2) reading text book, (3) translation (by looking up dictionary), and (4) asking question. The main reason reason of implementing teaching strategies was, they wanted to make the students active in the class. The basic consideration as an active facilitator in choosing the teaching strategies was to make classroom atmosphere that can make the students interact freely with each other in achieving learning goals

    The objective of this research was to find out vocabulary learning strategies applied by the students and also the most frequently applied strategies. In this research, the researchers ought to find vocabulary learning strategies-based Schmitt’s taxonomy due to the fact that it is a comprehensive inventory of vocabulary learning strategies that covers all of strategies commonly applied by English learners. This research applied quantitative research method with survey approach. Population of this study was the whole of the seven grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Witaponda in academic year of 2021/2022. The subjects of this research were grade eight students in SMP Negeri 1 WitaPonda By quota sampling, the participants in this study were 5 representative students of each class which would be 30 in total. The instrument used in this research was questionnaire, based on Schmitt's (1997) taxonomy. Based on the findings, the researcher concludes that there are several strategies used by the students. They are 1) using electronic dictionary to know the meaning of the word, 2) using Indonesian-English dictionary, 3) connecting one word to word related with it, 4) seeing description in text to explain meaning of a word, 5) labeling English word on object for helping them to remember vocabulary. The second conclusion is the most dominant strategies used by the students is determination strategies

    IMPROVING STUDENTS’ WRITING SKILLS IN PERSONAL LETTER BY MASTERING STRUCTURE OF THE TEXT

    This research aims to investigate the effectiveness of mastering the structure of the text to improve students’ writing skills in personal letters by mastering the structure of the text at second-year students of MA. Alkhairaat Biromaru. This is a classroom action research. The object of this research is the second-year students of MA. Alkhairaat Biromaru consisting 21 students. This research was conducted in two cycles. The researchers used tests, observation for teachers and students, and LKS (project paper activity) to collect the data. The test research results show that the students’ writing skills in personal letters by mastering the structure of the text can be improved from the first cycle to the second one. The students’ test results can prove it in the first cycle, the classical competence percentage is 47,61%, and the classical absorption presentation is 60,95% can be improved to 85,71% for classical competence presentation and 83,33% for classical absorption presentation in cycle II. It means that the students’ writing skills in personal letters can be improved by mastering the structure of the text

    THE USE OF CROSSWORD PUZZLES TO INCREASE STUDENTS' VOCABULARY MASTERY

    This research aims to determine whether the use of  Crossword Puzzles can increase Vocabulary of  SMP Alkhairaat  Tandaigi. This is research using a quasi-experimental research design. In selecting the sample, the researcher used a purposive sampling technique. The research samples were class VIII A as an experimental group and class VIII B as a control group. The instrument of data collection was divided into a pretest and a posttest. The data gathered were analyzed statistically. The results of the data analysis show that the mean score of both tests where the mean score of the experimental group improved from 63.93 to 73.33, and the control group's mean score improved from 63.17 to 68.56. The result showed that the value of t-counted (2.176) was greater than the value of the t-table (1.683) by applying a 0.05 level of significance and the degree of freedom (df) 22+21-2= 41. It could be concluded that the research hypothesis is accepted. In other words, Crossword Puzzles could increase vocabulary of grade VIII students at SMP Alkhairaat Tandaigi

    A STUDY ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SHORT STORIES IN TEACHING READING COMPREHENSION

    This research is to analyze short stories in teaching reading comprehension. This study was aimed at benefiting these readily used materials to  improve the eighth graders’ reading comprehension of narrative texts. The study applied action research design since it opens the opportunity for teachers-practitioners to be involved in research. Based on the results of the students’ tests as well as their on-going assessments, it is found out that the students’ reading comprehension was gradually improving. It means that there was a positive effect of using Online Short Stories towards the students’ reading ability. The result shows that the combination of materials and worksheets that were implemented in both cooperative and individual learning had facilitated the students in improving their reading comprehension ability, as well as their social skills. Therefore, it is very important to implement this strategy to order to improve the students’ reading comprehension

    THE USE OF COOPERATIVE INTEGRATED READING AND COMPOSITION (CIRC) METHOD TO IMPROVES WRITING SKILLS

    The objective of this research is to find out whether the use of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) method of the eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 7 Palu can improve the students' writing skills or not; the researchers applied a quasi-experimental design which involved experimental class and control class. The population of this research was the eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 7 Palu. The researchers selected the sample by using a purposive sampling technique. The sample of this research was the students of XI 3(experimental class) and XI 1 (control class), which were both classes consisting of 32 students. The technique of data collection was tested (pre-test and post-test). The experimental class was treated by applying the CIRC method, while the method did not use by the control class. The result of the data analysis showed that there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test. The researchers found a significant difference between the results of the experimental class. It was proved by applying the testing hypothesis. The researchers found that the t-counted (3.29) was higher than the t-table (2.001). It means that the hypothesis was accepted. In conclusion, using the CIRC method effectively improves the writing skills of the eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 7 Palu
