IMPROVING READING COMPREHENSION OF ELEVENTH-GRADE STUDENTS THROUGH TPS TECHNIQUE
This research aims at finding out whether or not the implementation of Think- Pair-Share (TPS) Technique can improve the reading comprehension of the eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Banawa. This research employed a quasi-experimental research design which involved two groups of students as experimental and control groups. The samples were selected by using a purposive sampling technique. The samples were the students of XI IPS 2 as the experimental group and XI IPS1 as the control group. The instrument of this research was a test that was given to the sample as a pretest and posttest in the form of a reading test. The result of data analysis shows that the mean score of the posttest in the experimental group is 76.82 which is considered higher than the mean score of posttest in control group (65.06). By applying 42 degrees of freedom (df) and 0.05 level of significance, it indicates that the tconted (3.84) is higher than the ttable (2.01). As a result, it clarifies that the hypothesis of this research is accepted. DEVELOPING STUDENTS' VOCABULARY MASTERY THROUGH HIDDEN OBJECT GAME
The objective of this research is to find out if the use of Hidden Object Game can develop vocabulary mastery to the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Palu. This research employed a quasi-experimental research design that involved experimental group and control group. The sample of this research was class VIII Apel with 33 students as the control group and class VIII Rambutan with 33 students as the experimental group, selected by using purposive sampling technique. The data was collected by administering a vocabulary test consisting of a pre-test and post-test. Then the treatment was only given to the experimental group. The result of the pre-test of the experimental group was 51.43 while the control group was 52.47. The result of the post-test of the experimental group was 81.73 while the control group was 68.74. The data were analyzed statistically in order to find out the significant difference of students' achievement in the pre-test and post-test by using the t-test formula. By applying 0.05 level of significance where the degree of freedom (df) is 64, the researchers found that the value of the t-counted (5.03) is higher than the t-table (1.99). THE USE OF U-DICTIONARY APPLICATION TO IMPROVE VOCABULARY MASTERY OF THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP NEGERI 17 PALU
The objective of this research is to improve if using the U-Dictionary Application can improve the vocabulary of eighth-grade students. The researchers applied quasi experimental research design. The experimental group consisted of 25 students, while the control group also consisted of 25 students. The data were collected using a test administered twice; it was in the form of a pre-test and a post-test. The data were analyzed statistically. The results of the data analysis showed that the t-counted value (2.14) was higher than the t-table (1.677). It means that the hypothesis is accepted. In other words, using U-Dictionary Application can improve the vocabulary of eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 17 Palu
THE USE OF DUOLINGO APPS TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY OF SMP NEGERI 4 PALU
The purpose of this research is to find out whether the use of Duolingo apps as media in learning activity can improve students’ vocabulary of mastery or not. This research used pre-experimental design. The sample was 31 seventh grade students from SMP Negeri 4 Palu. Duolingo application was used as an instrument in this research. All the data gained in this research were analyzed by using Arikunto’s formula. The result shows that the use of Duolingo Application can improve students’ vocabulary mastery. Based on the calculation, the post-test mean score was 73,23 while the pre-test was 63,39. The result of statistical analysis showed that the value of t-counted (212,31) was higher than the value of t-table (1.697) with 0.05 level of significance of 30 (31-1) degree of freedom (df). The result indicated that the use of Duolingo application can improve students’ vocabulary mastery of the seventh grade students SMP Negeri 4 Palu
THE IMPLEMENTATION OF LINE WEBTOON TO ENHANCE STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION
This research aims to determine whether or not the implementation of Line Webtoon can enhance the reading comprehension of the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Palu. The population of this research is the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Palu. The sample was VIII A as the experimental class and VIII B as the control class. The research applied the quantitative method. The instrument of the data collection was pre-test and post-test. Those data were analyzed statistically. The pre-test was at a low level, and the post-test was at a high level. The pre-test was low because the students had difficulties in reading comprehension. However, the post-test that at a high level because of the media can enhance students’ reading comprehension. The results of the data analysis show that the t-counted was greater than the t-table. In conclusion, using line webtoon can enhance students’ reading comprehension
THE EFFECTIVENESS OF QAR STRATEGY IN IMPROVING STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION
The purpose of this research is to prove that the Question-Answer Relationship (QAR) strategy is effective in improving reading comprehension of grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 3 Mepanga and to find out whether there was a significant difference between the experimental class and the control class in reading comprehension. The design of this research was quasi-experimental. The samples of this research consisted of 45 students who were selected by using cluster random sampling. The research instrument used to collect the data was a multiple-choice test which were divided into pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed by using statistical analysis. The result of the data analysis shows that there was a significant effect on students’ reading comprehension after the treatment by applying the QAR strategy. It indicated the mean score of both test results where the mean score of the experimental class significantly improved from 38.75 to 63.75. Meanwhile, the mean score of the control class is from 30.00 to 40.00. Based on the result of the data analysis, the researcher found that the value of t-counted is 7.36. By applying a degree of freedom (df) 43 (24 + 21 – 2) and 0.05 level of significance, the researchers found that the value of the t-table is 1.68. It means that the hypothesis is accepted because the value of t-counted (7.36) is higher than the t-table (1.68). To conclude, the QAR strategy is effective in improving reading comprehension of grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 3 Mepanga
USING AUTHENTIC MATERIALS IN IMPROVING READING COMPREHENSION
This study aims to know whether or not using authentic materials can improve reading comprehension of the grade eight students of SMP Negeri 16 Palu. This research used a quasi-experimental research design. The research population was the grade eight students of SMP Negeri 16 Palu which consisted of 112 students. The sample was selected by using a purposive sampling technique. The number of the sample was 22 students of class VIII A as the experimental group and 22 students of class VIII E as the control group. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test about reading. The students were assigned some tasks consisting of 10 multiple-choices and 5 essay questions. The result of this research showed the mean deviation score of the experimental group was 89.45 and 79.27 for the control group. Therefore, the t-counted value (6.43) is higher than the t-table value (2,018). It is proved that the hypothesis is accepted in which there is development of the students after getting the treatment. It means that the use of Authentic Materials can improve students Reading comprehension. The implication of this finding is that the teachers need to use authentic material as the media in teaching reading
THE USE OF PICTURES TO DEVELOP WRITING SKILLS OF THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP SATAP NEGERI 1 AMPIBABO
The objective of this research was prove that the use of pictures can develop the students skill to write recount text. The research applied quasi experimental research design that involved experimental group and a control group. The sample of this research was 45students, which where divided into 22 students of class A as the experimental group and 23 students of class B as the control group. The sample was selected by using purposive sampling technique. In collecting the data, the researchers used test, the test was used pre-test and post-test. Then, the data were analyzed statistically. Having analyzed the data, it was revealed that there were different score obtained from control group and experimental group. In other words, t-counted (3,70) was higher than t-table (1,681). It means that the research hypothesis is accepted. In conclusion, that the use of pictures can develop the students writing skill to the eighth grade of SMP SATAP Negeri 1 Ampibabo
FACTORS CAUSING SPEAKING DIFFICULTY FACED BY THE ELEVENTH-GRADE STUDENTS OF SMK NEGERI 6 PALU
This research aims to discover the factors causing speaking difficulty faced by the eleventh-grade students of SMK Negeri 6 Palu. The researcher used qualitative descriptive research. The population of this research was the eleventh-grade students of SMK Negeri 6 Palu. The sample of this research was 48 students of the eleventh-grade class hotel accommodation chosen by applying a purposive sampling technique. In collecting the data, the researcher used a questionnaire and group discussion. The questionnaire and group discussion data were analyzed statistically and descriptively. The researcher found that the factors causing students difficulty in speaking are internal factors and external factors. The internal factors are students' interest, motivation, and lack of confidence. The external factors are teachers' strategy, learning facilities and the environment. This research implies that the teacher builds students' interest and motivation and encourages and increases students' self-confidence. In addition, the teachers choose the best teaching method to keep their learners involved in speaking. In a social environment, people are encouraged to use Indonesian combined with English, even though only for several words. This is so that students are accustomed to using English. In learning facilities, the teacher and school always try to provide interesting media for students so students are more interested and excited when learning to speak
IMPROVING SPEAKING SKILL OF THE ELEVEN GRADE SMA NEGERI 7 PALU THROUGH THINK-PAIR-SHARE TECHNIQUE
This research aims to find out was think pair share can improve students’ speaking skill of Eleven Grade at SMA Negeri 7 Palu or not. The instrument used to collect the data was speaking test. The students in this research were divided into two groups which are experimental and control group. 30 sudents from each group were asked to do pre-test and post-test. The students speaking skill were analyzed by use rubric score adapted from Weigle (2002). Then, the data were analyzed using formula proposed by Arikunto (2013). The result shows that the t-counted is 9.65 and t-table is 2.00 where the t-counted was higher than the t-table. It indicates that the think pair share technique can improve students’ speaking skill of Eleven Grade at SMA Negeri 7 Palu
