    THE USE OF PERSONAL VOCABULARY NOTES TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY OF SMP NEGERI 3 TOTIKUM BANGGAI KEPULAUAN

    The objective of this research is to find out whether students’ vocabulary mastery is Improve or not through personal vocabulary notes technique. This research is Pre-Experimental method. Data collection Techniques are Pre-test and Post-test. The results of this research showed that there was improvement of students' vocabulary mastery from the difference between the pre-test and post-test is 31.1, The results of the research found that students’ vocabulary this can be seen from the height of the t-conted 88.8 than t-table 1.729.  Based on the result, the researcher hopes that the personal vocabulary notes technique can used improve students’ vocabulary mastery of SMP Negeri 3 Totiku

    IMPROVING READING COMPREHENSION OF THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF MA ALKHAIRAAT BIROMARU THROUGH STORY MAPPING STRATEGY

         The reading comprehension of class X1 students at MA Alkhairaat Biromaru. This research uses a quasi-experimental design by applying a nonequivalent control group design. The population was class X1 students at MA Alkhairaat Biromaru consisting of 30 students from two classes. The sample is class IPA as the experimental group and class IPS as the control group. Sample selection was carried out in total. Tests are used to collect data consisting of pre-test and post-test. The test results show that the average pre-test score obtained by the experimental group is 40.47, while the mea pre-test score obtained by the control group is 43.53. Then, the average post-test score for the experimental group is 86.68, while the control group is 67.13; the t-calculated value (4.28) was higher than the t-table value (1.70), which means that the hypothesis was accepted. The T-test tests determine the significance and relevance between two groups of unpaired samples. Based on the research results, using Story Mapping can improve the reading comprehension of class X1 students at MA Alkhairaat Biromaru

    STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION ON THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING YOUTUBE AS A MEDIA FOR LEARNING

      This research aimed to discover students’ perception of using YouTube as a Media for Learning and factors that can contribute to the use of YouTube as a learning media. Qualitative descriptive are used. The subjects of this research were 30 students of class X 7. Questionnaires and interviews were applied to collect data. The questionnaire consists of 30 questions; interviews were conducted as supporting data. Based on data analysis, data from the questionnaire shows that most students agree with the use of YouTube as a medium for learning English. Learning to use YouTube also gives students new experiences in learning and can overcome boredom in monotonous learning. The interview results also showed that students were happy and gained new experiences by using YouTube as a learning medium. The conclusion can be drawn that students agree that using YouTube can overcome boredom in class, increase interest in learning and gain new experience

    INCREASING VOCABULARY OF THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP NEGERI 2 PALU THROUGH THE USE OF TIKTOK

    The objective of this research is to find out if the use of TikTok  as a learning media can increase students’ vocabulary of SMP Negeri 2 Palu. This research used a quasi-experimental design that consisted of two classes; experimental and control class. The samples of this research was the second grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Palu; VIII Pangeran Diponegoro (class B) with 31 students as the experimental class and VIII Kapitan Pattimura (class E) with 32 students as the control class that was selected by using cluster random sampling. The data was collected by administering a vocabulary test consisting of a pre-test and post-test that was conducted at first and last meetings. Then the treatment was only given to the experimental class. The result of the experimental class’s pre-test is 45.38, while the control class is 51.04. The result of the experimental class’s post-test is 70.00, while the control class is 62.29. By applying 0.05 level of significance, the researchers found that the value of the t-counted (7.15) is higher than the t-table (1.671). It can be concluded that the use of TikTok as learning media in teaching vocabulary is effective to increase students’ vocabulary of SMP Negeri 2 Palu. Based on these results, it implies that TikTok can be applied by teachers in the teaching and learning process as one of effective media to increase students' vocabulary, especially for second grade students of junior high school

    THE IMPLEMENTATION OF PARTNER READING STRATEGY TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION

    The objective of this research is to find out whether or not the implementation of partner reading strategy improve reading comprehension of the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Tomini. This study limits on the use of Partner Reading strategy in improving students’ reading comprehension which focuses on literal meaning and the narrative text. The researcher used a quantitative method and a pre- experimental as the research design. The population of this research was eight- grade students consisting of 143 students. The researcher used random sampling and took VIII B as the sample in this study. The instrument of this study was test consisted essay and true or false. The result of the pre-test was 41,23 while post- test was 75.56. By applying 0.05 level of significance, the researcher found that the value of the t-counted is higher than t-table (17.51 > 1.706) This means that the hypothesis is accepted. In other words, the implementation of partner reading strategy improve students reading comprehension of the eight grade of SMP Negeri 1 Tomini

    AN ANALYSIS OF ENGLISH EDUCATION STUDENTS' INTEREST IN THE TEACHING PROFESSION

    The teaching profession in Indonesia is highly esteemed, yet it faces challenges in attracting widespread interest. Students of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at Tadulako University, particularly those in the English Education program, are projected to become future educators. However, not all of them share an equal level of interest in the profession. Several factors, such as external influences and perceptions regarding the prestige of the profession, significantly affect their career choices. This study aims to analyze the interest of English Education students in the teaching profession after completing the Educational Profession course. Understanding their level of interest in detail and exploring the role of teachers in the modern era is crucial. This study employed a descriptive quantitative approach using a cross-sectional survey design. The research subjects were seventh-semester students of the English Education program who had completed the Educational Profession course during the 2023/2024 academic year, totaling 161 individuals. At least 50% of this population was randomly selected to participate as the study sample. The research instrument was a closed-ended questionnaire using a 4-point Likert scale: strongly disagree, disagree, agree, and strongly agree—to measure students' interest in the teaching profession. The responses were analyzed using descriptive statistics to determine the percentage for each item and describe the general interest of English Education students in becoming teachers

    USING SKIMMING AND SCANNING TECHNIQUES TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION

    The objective of this research is to find out if the use of skimming and scanning techniques can improve students’ reading comprehension of the eleventh grade students at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 Palu. This research used quasi-experimental design that consisted of two groups; experimental and control group. The samples of this research was the eleventh grade students at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 Palu; XI MIPA 1 with 27 students as the experimental group and XI MIPA 2 with 27 students as the control group by using purposive sampling. The data were collected by using pre-test and post-test at first and last meetings. Then the treatment was only given to the experimental group. The result of experimental group’s pre-test is 61 while control group is 78.00. The result of experimental group’s post-test is 83.11 while control group is 81. By applying 0.05 level of significance, the researcher found that the value of t-counted (9.71) is higher than t-table (1.676). In conclusion, the use of skimming and scanning techniques in teaching reading can improve students’ reading comprehension of the eleventh grade students at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 Palu

    THE IMPLEMENTATION OF COMMUNICATIVE LANGUAGE GAMES TO IMPROVE STUDENTS SPEAKING SKILL

    This research aimed to find out whether the Implementation of Communicative Language Games to Improve Speaking Skills of the eleventh-grade students of SMA Labschool Palu is effective in improving speaking skills of SMA Labschool Palu students. The design of this study was quasi-experimental which included students and class XI MIA 3 as an Experimental Group with a total of 20 students and XI IIS as a Control Group with a total of 20 students. The mean score of the pre-test of the experimental group is 41 while the control group is 45. The mean score of the post-test of the experimental group is 54 while the control group is 48. By using the 0.05 level of significance, the researchers computed the data and found that the value of the t-counted (2.702) is higher than the t-table (1.991.6). It means that the hypothesis is accepted. In other words, using the Communicative Language Games Technique can improve the students' speaking in the eleventh grade of SMA Labschool Palu

    THE EFFECTIVENESS OF SONGS OF YOUTUBE VIDEOS IN IMPROVING PRONUNCIATION SKILL OF THE GARDE ELEVENTH STUDENTS AT SMK NEGERI 2 PALU

    The objective of this research was to prove that using Songs of YouTube Videos is effectiveness in improving pronunciation skill of the grade eleventh students at SMK Negeri 2 Palu. This research used a quasi-experimental research design. The sample of the research was 25 students from class XI BDP 1 (Bisnis Daring Pemasaran) as the experimental class and 25 students from class BDP 2 (Bisnis Daring Pemasaran) as the control class. The instruments used in this research were test, pretest and posttest. The result of the data analyzed showed that there is significant difference between the result of the pretest and posttest. The mean score of the pretest of experimental class was 45.2 while the control class was 46.8. After giving the treatment, the mean score of the experimental class in the posttest was 85.4 and the control class was 56.0. By applying 0.05 level of significance, the researcher found that the value of the t-counted (15.1) is higher than t-table (1.67). It means that the use of song of youtube videos is effective in improving pronunciation skill of the grade eleventh students at SMK Negeri 2 Palu

    IMPROVING WRITING SKILL OF THE TENTH-GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA NEGERI 7 PALU BY USING CONTEXTUAL TEACHING AND LEARNING APPROACH

    This study is aimed at proving whether or not Contextual Teaching and Learning Approach can improve students’ writing skill in descriptive text. This study uses a quasi-experimental research design. It involves the tenth-grade students of SMA Negeri 7 Palu. In selecting the sample, the researcher uses a cluster random sampling, and the students selected as the sample were class X7 and X9. The data of this research is quantitative data. In collecting the data, it is collected through the writing test that consisted of pre-test and post-test. The data gathered is analyzed statistically to analyze the difference of students’ score in experimental and control classes. The results of the data indicates that the mean score of the experimental class (62.05) was higher than the mean score of the control class (52.25). By applying a significance level of 0.05, it is found that the t-counted (6.16) was higher than the t-table (1.67). It means that the hypothesis of the research is accepted. Based on the result, it is concluded that the use of Contextual Teaching and Learning Approach (CTL) can improve the students’ skill in writing descriptive text. The implication of the findings to the teaching of writing in the class is that the teacher needs contextual media to make the class more meaningful and real as well as make the students improve their writing
