No full textThis chapter explores the role of standards and best practices in the creation, sharing, and sustainable use of language resources. As linguistic data becomes increasingly complex and varied, ranging from continuous corpora to multimodal annotations, the need for interoperability and long-term accessibility has grown. This chapter shows how encoding practices, metadata, and annotation frameworks contribute to the transparency, reproducibility, and reusability of language data. Emphasis is placed on the importance of consensus-driven standards, such as those developed by ISO (International Organization for Standardization), and the practical implementation of best practices within academic, archival, and computational contexts. Política de posicionamiento. Prácticas lingüísticas y sociales de la constitución relacional
No full textEl posicionamiento político a través del uso del lenguaje es una práctica comunicacional y social elemental. El artículo abre programáticamente el campo del posicionamiento político para el análisis lingüístico al mostrar, con referencia a la teoría del posicionamiento (positioning theory) y su extensión lingüística en la teoría de la toma de postura (stancetaking), cómo se crea la relacionalidad a través del posicionamiento lingüístico en varios aspectos. Se enfatiza el papel que juegan los aspectos indexicales, mediáticos, históricos, dialógicos y praxeológicos en la constitución de la relacionalidad a través del posicionamiento lingüístico. Finalmente, el concepto de lo político (en contraste con el concepto más estrecho de la política), que incluye tanto la comunicación política profesional como la comunicación cotidiana, así como el posicionamiento político implícito y explícito, está vinculado a este principio básico de la constitución de la relacionalidad. De esta manera, el artículo pretende generar una perspectiva bisagra de base teórica entre la interacción lingüística y el análisis del discurso de la comunicación política
Theoretische Neugier und praktischer Blick. Jean Fourquets grammatische Forschung aus deutscher Sicht
No full textFrom the 1950s onwards, Jean Fourquet was an important partner in German linguistics, both in the Federal Republic and the DDR. He was a member of the Academy of Sciences of the DDR and the Board of Trustees of the Institute for the German Language from 1964. In both contexts, he made a decisive contribution to the implementation of modern structuralist ideas. He also combined theoretical considerations with foreign language-related practice. His publication of Tesniere's "Elements" in 1959 had a considerable influence on the development of valence-based grammars for German, after the example of his own grammars from the 1950s had already had an impact in this respect.
On the other hand, in his own work he developed a number of fundamental grammatical ideas that not only influenced modern German linguistics at the time, but also continue to characterise academic discussion today. This is most obvious in questions of serialisation and hierarchy of word groups in sentences, where Fourquet's relevant ideas go back to his work in the late 1930s. However, this also applies to a number of other points of discussion, such as the distribution of grammatical markers in the nominal groups, the stem form principle in inflection or the distinction between the objective and subjective use of modal verbs.

Defining gender linguistics: A statement from the editorial team
No full textThis editorial statement outlines the mission and scope of Gender Linguistics, a peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to the study of language and gender. Building on insights from recent conferences and publications, the editorial team defines gender linguistics as a broad and integrative field encompassing grammatical, lexical, phonological, discourse-analytic, psycholinguistic, computational, and cross-linguistic perspectives, among others. The statement positions the journal as a platform for theoretically informed and empirically grounded research that connects diverse linguistic traditions, fosters exchange across subfields, and contributes to the further establishment of gender-linguistic research within the wider discipline. Rather than offering a fixed definition, it invites continued dialogue about the scope and future directions of gender linguistics
Das orthographische Werk Adelungs – Deskription im Dienste der Ususlegitimierung
No full textDie zeitgenössische deutsche Orthographie gehört zu den zentralen Gegenständen der Adelung'schen Sprachbeschreibung. Dies offenbart sich etwa darin, dass orthographischen Fragen gewidmete Aufsätze in seinem „Magazin für die deutsche Sprache“ breiten Raum einnehmen, vor allem aber in dem gewichtigen Werk „Vollständige Anweisung zur Deutschen Orthographie“ (Adelung 1788). Dass dieses im Jahre 1835 seine fünfte Auflage erlebt (vgl. Strohbach 1984, S. 24), kann als Indiz für den beträchtlichen Einfluss der Adelung'schen Orthographieregelung gesehen werden. Auch mit Adelungs „Sprachlehre“ dürfte seine Rechtschreibkodifizierung weite Verbreitung gefunden haben, treffen hier doch alle von Bergmann festgestellten Wirkungsfaktoren zusammen, die Wirkung „durch Verbreitung“, „durch Ansehen“, „durch Schriftsteller“ und „durch die Schule“ (Bergmann 1982, S. 272ff.). Ungeachtet dieser bemerkenswerten Ausstrahlung seiner Arbeiten zur deutschen Rechtschreibung wird dem Orthographen Adelung in seiner Zeit neben Lob jedoch auch Tadel zuteil, erscheint er als „Leitbild und Stein des Anstoßes“ (Henne 1984, S. 98), als „überlegener Macher, der die Kritik auf sich zieht“ (ebd., S. 99)
Conversion into the archival format I5
No full textThe IDS repository aims at long-term archival of linguistic resources and tools in the field of German studies. This chapter introduces I5, the archival format for textual data in the repository. I5 is characterised as a TEI customisation, featuring a tripartite corpus macrostructure and some renamings and restructurings of TEI elements to fit the corpus holdings compiled since 1964 at the IDS. After a brief introduction to I5, the contribution shows how the conversion to I5 is achieved for various input formats by using the examples of features of concrete corpora in the archive. The two cases covered are instances of the KED corpus of simple German which came as a CWB-based XML called VRT, and Wikipedia corpora which came in Wiki markup, both of which were converted to I5 using different strategies. We further show how I5 data are ingested into the archive and what happens if someone wishes to extract such data from the archive for their own subsequent use. Finally we mention some alternative archival formats used in other archives such as TEI proper or DTA-Bf

Key topics include the role of the Data Steward, an overview of copyright and data protection laws, as well asethical considerations. The proposed taxonomy serves as a practical tool to foster confidence and clarity in data reuse, while also highlighting ongoing challenges in this evolving area
