DERIV@: A Linguistic Database for Spanish
In our previous research and discussions, we have found that conventional dictionaries, used as an essential source of information, are problematic in a series of features concerning derived words. Mainly, we can outline the following:
a) The inclusion or not of derived words as separated entries in the lexicon, depending on whether their meanings are more or less predictable from their form;
b) How to cross-reference morphologically related words;
c) The separation between different meanings according to those of the base form;
d) The addition of combinatory information, both grammatical and lexical;
e) The inclusion of examples.
Most of these items refer to grammatical and usage information. For our purpose, the basic grammatical information provided in conventional general dictionaries is not sufficient when it comes to the combination and integration of phonological, morphological, collocational, syntactic, semantic and pragmatic information
Standards and practices for long-term digital archiving
This chapter delves into the critical aspects of digital long-term archiving, focusing on standards and practices in the language domain, based on the experiences gained in various projects and infrastructure activities. It begins by discussing various preservation levels – binary, logical and semantic – highlighting their importance in maintaining digital integrity over time. The chapter then explores the OAIS model, detailing the roles of Submission Information Packages (SIP), Archival Information Packages (AIP) and Dissemination Information Packages (DIP) in the archival process. It contrasts dark archives with open archives, explaining their respective purposes and benefits. The function of repository systems and the use of persistent identifiers are examined to underscore their roles in ensuring long-term accessibility. The chapter also defines digital objects and outlines the responsibilities of data stewards in managing these resources. Finally, it emphasizes the significance of certification in establishing trustworthy archives, discussing relevant standards and their benefits. This comprehensive overview provides essential insights into effective long-term digital preservation
Metadata for research data
This chapter explores the critical role of metadata in language data and infrastructures, emphasizing its importance for data management and discoverability. It begins by defining basic metadata elements necessary for research data, such as title, creator, identifier, and format. The discussion then shifts to metadata derived during the deposition process, including technical specifications and file integrity checks. The chapter highlights the significance of metadata in adhering to the FAIR principles, particularly in enhancing data findability. It also examines the importance of utilizing established core metadata sets such as DataCite, DCAT, and Dublin Core, as well as the integration of schema.org for improved interoperability. Furthermore, the chapter delves into the use of discipline-specific rich metadata schemas, focusing on ISO 24622-1 and ISO 24622-2 (CMDI), and provides practical examples of their application. This comprehensive overview underscores the necessity of robust metadata standards in supporting effective research data infrastructures, including those for language-related research data

This article investigates the question of which reflexes of cross-linguistic variance in the domain of propositional arguments can be identified in learner texts. The analysed data come from the corpora Dulko, Falko and Merlin, which contain texts written by learners of German with L1 English, Italian, Polish and Hungarian. The focus lies on the use of finite and infinite structures in object function and the (non-)occurrence of proforms related to propositional objects. For both phenomena, three factors can be identified that possibly influence the syntactic realisation of the propositional argument and the (non-)presence of the propositional proform: the learner's native language, the type of learner text (essay or translation text) and the general frequency of occurrence of the matrix predicate
Lean syntax: how argument structure is adapted to its interactive, material, and temporal ecology
It has often been argued that argument structure in spoken discourse is less complex than in written discourse. This paper argues that lean argument structure, in particular, argument omission, gives evidence of how the production and understanding of linguistic structures is adapted to the interactive, material, and temporal ecology of talk in interaction. It is shown how lean argument structure builds on participants’ ongoing bodily conduct, joint perceptual salience, joint attention, and their orientation to expectable next actions within a joint project. The phenomena discussed in this paper are verb derived discourse markers and tags, analepsis in responsive actions, and ellipsis in first actions, such as requests and instructions. The study draws from transcripts and audio and video recordings of naturally occurring interaction in German from the Research and Teaching Corpus of Spoken German (FOLK)
