Exploring an Experienced EFL Teacher on Classroom Management: A Case Study on Motivational Skill
Classroom management is one of the essential teaching skills required to be mastered by teachers, and its goal is to develop a conducive academic and social-emotional learning environment. This article reported the research exploration of how an experienced senior high school English teacher manages her class to make the students feel comfortable and motivated to learn English in the classroom. This research was designed as qualitative case study research and collected the data by observing and recording the classroom learning session and voice recording interviews. The thematic analysis revealed that an experienced senior high school English teacher managed her class by applying course-specific, teacher-specific, and group-specific motivational components to make students feel comfortable and motivated. The findings imply that English teachers create exciting learning activities besides morning storytelling to make students feel comfortable and motivated. The teacher prepares more teaching media for the materials well and thinks about the time spent on every activity in the opening, primary, and closing activities (in case of an unpredictable event)
Exploring Students' Attitudes Toward Learning Writing: A Case Study at English Education Department of an Islamic University
Writing Attitudes refers to the perceptions, feelings, and beliefs that students hold towards writing. Understanding students' writing attitudes is important as it can affect their engagement in writing activities and ultimately their writing performance. The aims of this study are to describe the attitudes towards learning writing and to identify the contributing factors the attitudes towards learning writing of EFL students in the English Education Department of an Islamic university in Pekanbaru. This research is qualitative research. This research was conducted from January to February 2024 at an Islamic university in Pekanbaru, Indonesia. The participants were 6 students of 3rd semester students. To this extent, it was generally studied that the sampling size for this study purposively comprises one class with 30 students in total from the English Education Department, which serves as a representative group. The instruments to collect the data were close-ended questionnaire, open-ended questionnaire, and interview. The researcher used qualitative analysis: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification to analyse the data. The result shows that there are three attitudes that were shown by the 3rd semester students at English Education Department of an Islamic University in Pekanbaru namely beliefs, emotions, and dispositions. in addition, the factors that influenced the students’ attitude were teaching method and approaches, curriculum and materials, leacturer interactions, and peer influence and collaboration factors

Exploring EFL Teacher’s Motivational Regulation in the Demotivating Environment A Case Study in Indonesia
Although extensive research has been carried out on learners’ demotivation, there is limited research exploring the demotivating factors of teachers, especially in Indonesia. Heavy workloads and challenging classroom environments can lead to decreased teacher motivation, which can affect students’ academic achievement. Therefore, it is pivotal for teachers to regulate their motivation and mitigate potential shortcomings. To address this gap, this case study is conducted to describe factors contributing to teachers’ demotivation and the strategies teachers employ to maintain their motivation. Semi-structured interviews were used to gather data from two EFL teachers voluntarily involved in this study. Using thematic analysis, this study elucidated that EFL teachers employ several motivational strategies such as spiritual and social strategies, engaging in pleasure activities, participating in professional development, and seeking help from peers to tackle demotivational conditions in their schools. Discussion, limitations, and significance of this study will be further discussed
Exploring The Impact of Metacognitive Strategy on University Student Reading Performance
The purpose of this study was to find a relationship between EFL students' metacognitive awareness of reading strategies and reading comprehension. The research design uses quantitative, the sample required is 63 EFL students as participants, using reading comprehension scores and questionnaires to improve Metacognitive Awareness Reading Strategies in students. Metacognitive Awareness of Reading Strategy Inventory (MARSI-R) and Reading Test in the Essential Reading course to determine the level of students' metacognitive awareness. The results of this study indicate that 51 students or 81% can be categorized as high group level, and 10 students or 18% can be categorized as medium group level and for low category get 2 students or 3%.This research shows that the most used strategy by EFL learners is found using PRS (Problem solving strategy) found mean is 3.21; GRS (Global reading strategy) found mean is 3.41; and, SRS (Supports reading strategies) found mean is 3.02. For correlation, the Spearman Rho coefficient results show that there is no relationship between EFL students' metacognitive awareness of reading strategies and reading comprehension.
 
How Do the Indonesian Pre-Service Teachers Perceive CEFR?
The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) provides a basis for developing language education curriculum, conducting language learning and teaching, and administering language assessment. In the Indonesian context, the recently launched Kurikulum Merdeka refers to the CEFR in targeting the English Proficiency levels that should be achieved in English Subject across different schooling levels. Hence, teachers’ understanding and perceptions of the framework become important. This study aimed to examine the pre-service EFL teachers’ perception of the CEFR. A survey using a 5-point Likert Scale questionnaire and semi structured interviews were conducted to collect both quantitative and qualitative data from 49 pre-service EFL teachers who were selected through a random sampling technique. The results showed that the participants had positive perceptions of the CEFR but they had limited to a moderate understanding level of the CEFR. They only received limited CEFR exposure from a course in their teacher training program. They also mostly associated the CEFR with standardized testing and language certification without understanding the underlying principles of the framework. More comprehensive CEFR training for teacher candidates should be considered before Kurikulum Merdeka is compulsorily implemented. Also, the research can play a crucial role in shaping language education by influencing curriculum development, teacher training, policy decisions, quality assurance measures, student outcomes, and ongoing professional development within the field
A Literature Appreciation Learning Evaluation at Primary School: A Case Study of Reading Poetry
Abstract. This study aims to identify cases of difficulties in learning to read poetry for elementary school students. This research is a case study with data obtained from the case subjects of teachers and students of primary school. Data in the form of learning difficulties behavior was taken by using observation, interview, and documentation techniques. The steps taken include case identification, diagnosis, prognosis, remedial (treatment), evaluation, and follow-up (follow-up). The results showed that the case of difficulty in learning literary appreciation, especially reading poetry, was the class condition and the teacher's factor. The condition of the classroom window that is too low can be overcome by providing a cover in the form of a curtain to block the view of students outside the room, while teachers who do not master the class due to a lack of learning media can be overcome by providing other supporting books besides the main book, magazines, and ‘infocus media.
 
Cooperative Learning Approach in Teaching and Learning Writing Skills: Practices and Challenges
The study was tried to investigate the practices and challenges of cooperative learning approach in teaching and learning writing skills of Grade 11 students, Afar Regional State, Logia Secondary and Preparatory School, in focus. More specifically, the study addressed the following research questions: (1) How is cooperative learning practiced in teaching and learning writing skills? (2) What are the challenges that hinder the effective implementation of cooperative learning in writing skills? The main subjects of the study were Grade 11 students of Logia Secondary and Preparatory School. Moreover, one of a social science classes were randomly selected. The data for this research purpose was collected through students’ questionnaire, teacher’s and students’ interview. Regarding the practices of CL in writing skills, both the teacher and students have positive attitudes i.e. teaching writing cooperatively improves students’ writing performance. Both the teacher and students believed that cooperative learning approach is practiced in their teaching and learning of writing somehow. Based on the data obtained from teacher’s interview and students’ questionnaire, there are many challenges that resist the successful implementation of CL which could be grouped under student-related, teacher-related, classroom-related, time-related and weather condition-related problems. As of students’ questionnaire and interview, the fear of grammar, the writing itself and how to organize ideas together are some of the problems students face in learning writing skills. To keep the implementation more effective and to overcome the challenges, some recommendations were forwarded
Developing Mobile Website-Based Learning Media for Students to Learn Speaking in English
This study is intended to create simple mobile website-based learning media to facilitate the students to learn speaking skills in English. The study used Borg and Gall’s development model with six steps of modified procedures, including research and information collection, planning, developing, design validation, design revision, and implementation. The researchers carried out a product feasibility test through the product validation and product trials on the field research. The product validation was realised by submitting a questionnaire to the media expert and learning material experts, while the product trials were conducted by distributing the user feedback questionnaire to the students. The results showed that the feasibility testing score by the media expert was 88% and the product validation score by the material experts was 87%, meaning that the mobile website-based learning media was feasible to use. Furthermore, based on the user feedback questionnaire results, the cumulative percentage was 87,50% which supports the product validity. Thus, it can be said that the mobile website-based learning media is feasible and valid to use for learning speaking in English
Anthropological Knowledge as Universal: A Critical Analysis of Fahrenheit 451.
The current research is a critical study of Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451" and has attempted to explain how epistemology has been made conflicting and controversial, leading to the idea of implementation of universal anthropological knowledge. It is the knowledge about human races and their collective interests and benefits. Advancing anthropological knowledge is a need of the day because a majority of the world's problems are due to books. The researcher explained that universal human knowledge will build trust, tolerance, and acceptance on the part of individuals and scholars from every culture and society around the globe. The perspective of "Ethnoepistemology" has been used as a theoretical framework in guiding and providing context to the study. "Ethnoepistemology" also decentralized the concept of one dominant center in the field of knowledge i.e. “The West knowledge”. Having a qualitative and epistemological nature, the research used "Close Reading" as a method of data analysis to highlight the hidden meanings and concepts. The study concluded that the implementing and considering anthropological knowledge as universal will regain the declined scope of academia as it is universal
