    Voices of Ahmad Dahlan University English Literature Students regarding the Use of YouTube in Teaching English

    This qualitative study investigates the perspectives of English literature students at Ahmad Dahlan University regarding the use of YouTube as a teaching medium for English. The aim of this research is to understand the strengths and weaknesses of YouTube as a platform for teaching English through the voices of the students. Through semi-structured interviews, the study explores the students' perceptions of the benefits and drawbacks of using YouTube for English language instruction. The findings reveal that while most students support YouTube for English teaching due to its accessibility and visual/auditory learning, some express concerns about distractions and lack of real-time feedback. Students suggest strategies like incorporating animations, selecting high-quality content, and utilizing interactive features. Previous research also supports the positive perception of using YouTube for English language instruction, with references provided

    Revealing Implementation of an Integrated Curriculum in Indonesian School

    The curriculum plays a very important role in the world of education as a guide for future educational goals so that it runs better and maximally. In the application of the curriculum, it is developed in schools to adapt to environmental conditions and needs, because these are related to each other in it and become a reference for all parties who play a role in implementing the applicable curriculum. The curriculum process includes planning, organizing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating, developing a good curriculum certainly requires in-depth study and thought. Evaluation as the final process of a curriculum is used as a benchmark for curriculum achievement. Education is a human effort to improve knowledge, both obtained from formal and informal institutions. To achieve this, proper educational goals are needed. The purpose of education will determine success in the process of forming the human person, of course, balanced with other elements in education. The purpose of writing this article is to analyze the importance of the role of the curriculum in achieving educational goals. This study is a qualitative descriptive method. Descriptive qualitative research is research with data collected in the form of words and not numbers. This study has three objectives, namely (1) revealing the concept of an integrated curriculum in schools by a model that is suitable within a single discipline, (2) implementation of an integrated curriculum in schools by a model that is suitable within a single discipline, and (3) Evaluation of an integrated curriculum. in school by a model that is suitable within a single discipline

    Self-Efficacy of Lecturers and Students in Academic Writing: Are There any Differences?

    Self-efficacy is a critical component of academic article writing. Numerous studies have demonstrated that self-efficacy affects reading comprehension, but few have examined the level of self-efficacy between students and lecturers regarding academic writing. Consequently, this study sought to ascertain students' and lecturers' levels of self-efficacy in academic writing. By administering questionnaires and conducting interviews with students and teachers, this study takes an explanatory mixed-methods approach to the topic. The online survey assesses self-efficacy in academic writing, and students and lecturers complete unstructured interviews. The study enrolled eighty students and eighteen lecturers from the English Department of UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya. The results indicate that students enrolled in the English Language Education and English Literature Study Programs have a moderate level of self-efficacy. The self-efficacy of lecturers in the English Language Education and English Literature Study Programs demonstrates similar results.     The Attitudes of EFL Learners on Using Mall in English Online Classroom

    In the era of easiness because of the development of modern things correlated with language, almost all human life aspects should include those. Nowadays almost nothing who do not know how to access technology, including EFL learners. Besides this research aims to identify EFL learners’ attitudes toward using MALL for online English classes. Technology role and learners’ ability to utilize it are considered significant after the global pandemic was announced, which drove all education activities to be fully online. One of the subjects that can greatly benefit from technology is English, since almost everyone worldwide enhances its technology. To achieve the goals of this study, a descriptive qualitative method was used, with a questionnaire adopted from Jebur and interviews conducted with 52 EFL learners at Tidar University who had completed a two-year English online course as a result of the pandemic outbreak. The result shows that the positive attitudes of most EFL learners are visible toward the use of mobile phones in English online classes. It can be a benefit in some cases, yet need another media where it could be depending on each learner’s preference. In conclusion, teachers should be aware of each learner to provide authentic media for particular class purposes. However, this research would benefit for the newest data to the readers or researchers in this certain field to make further improvements

    Abstract. This research aims to develop learning media as the innovation English app in enhancing the process of teaching-learning English in 4.0 Era. Through this app, it can be integrated by hybrid learning model that is prepared to deal with post-pandemic era challenge. This research was conducted based on the results of needs analysis of current learning that cannot be carried out fully face-to-face, as well as needs students and educators towards effective learning media. The objectives of this research are to elaborate the process of designing and developing learning media English App based M-Learning and examine the feasibility of that media in learning process of General English Courses in University of Billfath. The research design used is Research and Development (R&D) by applying the ADDIE model with five stages: analyze phase; design; development; implementation; evaluation. In further, the result of this research points out that in analyze phase found 71,3 % college students requires specific learning media-based M-learning that can be applied in hybrid learning model. While in the process of design and development English App as has been validated by experts that describe material validation 88,5 % and media validation 89% that can be said that the product is valid and deemed to be implemented. The stage of implementation is conducted seven meeting by hybrid learning. Furthermore, in evaluation stage indicates that the product has been feasibility to be applied in English learning due to the result obtained 80,6% (valid product). Hence, Mobile English App that is developed for college students in learning English has been succeed in fostering students ‘motivation and ability in General English Course

    Character Development in Reading Folktales: Literacy Learning Strategies Using Propp’s Dramatis Personae and Narrative Functions in Princess Hase

    This study intended to explore one of the literacy learning strategies namely character development in reading that can be used in the classroom by combining with Propp’s dramatis personae framework to get the deeper understanding about the folktales. This study involved the Japanese Folktale entitled Princess Hase as this story contains moral value that can be obtained by students after reading the folktales. This study used qualitative descriptive method which emphasizes on dramatis personae that exist in the folktales to get the deeper understanding. This study found out that the application of Propp’s dramatis personae in analyzing folktales can make the readers easier in understanding the folktales. Moreover, the combination of literacy learning strategies in this case character development in reading with Propp’s dramatis personae is beneficial to be applied in the classroom

    Panel Discussions to Promote Meaningful Learning at Distance Education

    The present mix-method study was carried out with the purpose of promoting meaningful learning through panel discussion to enhance students´ active participation in English. It was conducted at a private university in its distance modality. The sample of the study was 52 students from different provinces of Ecuador and 2 teachers. The data-collection instruments were two questionnaires and an observation grid. These were designed to learn if the use of panel discussions promotes meaningful learning and also to identify the students’ level of satisfaction regarding the use of panel discussions. The questionnaires were applied after 8 panel discussions were held. The observation grid was used by the teachers during each panel to take notes about aspects such as motivation, comprehension, and functionality. The findings demonstrate that students’ level of satisfaction was high regarding the use of panel discussions since they helped to increase their motivation to actively participate by using previous experience with new knowledge

    An Analysis of Speaking Activities in Indonesian ELT Textbook Based on Cognitive Domain of Bloom's Taxonomy Revised

    Textbook has an essential role as teaching material, especially in learning speaking English. Teachers should use a suitable textbook in their teaching process to meet learning objectives. This study aims to analyze speaking activities based on cognitive domain in the Indonesian ELT textbook endorsed by Indonesian Ministry of Educational and Culture entitled Bahasa Inggris, Think Globally Act Locally untuk SMP/MTS Kelas IX [English for Junior High School Grade IX]. The data were collected using documentary technique. The findings show that there were three speaking activities such as reading aloud, role play, and presentation task. Also, there were 57 speaking activities that focused on cognitive domain category. Besides, all categories of cognitive domain did not apply in this textbook. There are only four categories that were applied such as remembering (C1), applying (C3), analyzing (C4), and creating (C6). Thus, this textbook was not quite good to fulfill learning objectives

    Reading Strategies in Enhancing Students’ Reading Comprehension: Are They Still Relevant?

    Abstract. As a result of recent technological advancements, reading in the modern period has altered in more ways than only how students interact with textbooks. However, this technological advancement really has a detrimental effect on students' reading skills. Students tend to be lazy to read books and prefer to read entertainment stuff on cell phones where the language used is mostly informal. Due to the informal language that is often used in social media and messaging apps, students were struggling with a variety of issues such as a lack of pleasure in reading, a lack of critical thinking ability, a bad reading style, and a lack of strategy, all of which contribute to their ultimate demotivation to read. This review aims to discuss theories and previous studies related to the impact of implementation of reading strategies towards students’ reading comprehension. The findings of this review show that students’ reading comprehension are positively affected by the use of reading strategies. Therefore, it is clear that reading strategies effectively contribute a prominent improvement towards the students’ reading comprehension

    Navigating English Language for Specific Needs: Schools Stakeholder in Overcoming International School

    This study aimed to investigate the challenges encountered by English for Specific Purposes (ESP) learners in their journey to enhance English language proficiency. A mixed-methods approach was adopted, incorporating a comprehensive literature review and conducting semi-structured interviews with three ESP teachers and three administrative staff members from the same educational institutions. The findings from the literature review revealed that ESP learners often struggle with managing their time effectively due to the demands of their personal commitments, learners' self-efficacy in facing confidence issues, fear of making mistakes, and negative past experiences hindering their language learning progress. Moreover, limited access to authentic materials tailored to their specific fields emerged as a crucial obstacle, impacting learners' ability to develop subject-specific vocabulary and comprehend real-world language use. By recognizing and addressing these challenges, educators and institutions can develop more targeted and effective language learning strategies, ultimately empowering ESP learners to overcome their obstacles and achieve higher levels of English proficienc
