English Teacher’s Motivation to Achieve Professional Teacher
Teacher professionalism is a value, purpose, and quality of expertise related to the work of a teacher. Professional teachers possess the talent, interest, motivation, competence, and responsibility to perform their job effectively. The purpose of this research is to investigate the impact of teachers' motivation on their professionalism. The research method employed is qualitative research, utilizing a case study approach. The instruments used were observation, interview, and a documentation study. The informants in this study were three English teachers at SMKN 1 Cirebon. The research results showed that becoming a professional English teacher requires several efforts. First, teachers must possess talent, interest, and motivation. Second, teachers must also have an educational background that aligns with their field. Third, teachers must have the competencies required by their field of work. Lastly, teachers must take responsibility for carrying out their duties as teachers
Students' Perception: The Use of Story-Mapping Strategy in Teaching Narrative Text at SMA Negeri 1 Kedungreja
Teaching strategies play a crucial role for English teachers and students in achieving the expected learning objectives, especially when teaching narrative texts at Senior High School. Story-mapping strategy is a practical approach to apply in teaching narrative texts because it has numerous influences on improving students' learning. Many previous studies have discussed the effectiveness of the story-mapping strategy. However, it is not explained in depth how the teacher uses the story-mapping strategy in teaching narrative texts, nor are students' perceptions of the use of the story-mapping strategy in teaching narrative texts discussed. This research aims to describe teachers' approaches to using the story-mapping strategy and to investigate students' perceptions of that strategy. To answer that, the researchers conducted interviews, observations, and distributed questionnaires. The method is a qualitative descriptive method. Results show that there are five steps used by the teacher when employing the story-mapping strategy in teaching narrative texts—step 1. The teacher teaches the material using charts—step 2. The teacher introduces the concept of the story-mapping strategy—step 3. The teacher introduces the parts of the story-mapping graphics—step 4. The teacher asks students to reread the narrative story (step 5). The teacher asks students to complete the story-mapping graphics. Regarding the students' perceptions of the use of the story-mapping strategy in teaching narrative texts at SMA Negeri 1 Kedungreja, the students perceive several advantages in using this strategy, categorised into three aspects: students' feelings, teacher performance, and the effect of the story-mapping strategy. Related to aspects of students' feelings, the story-mapping strategy makes the students happy, comfortable, and motivated to learn. Concerning the teacher’s performance, students can learn in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Lastly, regarding the effect of using the story-mapping strategy, students can improve their ability to understand the material and solve their learning problems
Implementation of Teaching Campus in EFL Classroom: A Case Study of Elementary School in East Java
The aim of this study is to describe (1) the planning of the Teaching Campus in the EFL classroom context, (2) the implementation of the Teaching Campus in the EFL classroom context, and (3) the obstacles encountered in implementing the Teaching Campus in the EFL classroom context. This study is descriptive in nature and employs a qualitative approach. Researchers collected data through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The data analysis stage's steps, which include data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing or data verification. According to the study's findings, (1) during the planning stage, teachers and students conduct online learning and students prepare activity plans based on school curriculum, and (2) during the implementation stage, students' enthusiasm for learning is very high, particularly in English subjects. Furthermore, the use of audio media can stimulate the interest of children, and (3) the difficulties encountered are related to preparing material for teaching English because there is no English subject in primary school
The Influence of OCEAN as Educational Media to Improve Students' Vocabulary
Media as an important part of English teaching has been developed massively. The role of media in teaching English cannot be separated from students and teachers. This study aims to measure the effect of media that has been developed by the writer in order to know the effectiveness of the media itself in improving students’ vocabulary. OCEAN is a media development that provide some features to improve students’ English skill. This study implemented and tested OCEAN to measure the effectiveness of the media. This study used experimental quantitative research and T-test to gain and analyze the data. The result said that the average value of English vocabulary from pre-test is 65.81 ± 5.19, which is lower than the average value of English vocabulary in the post-test, which is 82.12 ± 5.86. To find out whether there is a significant increase in the average variable value of English vocabulary from the pre to post, the Wilcoxon test was carried out. From the Wilcoxon test, it was found that the calculated Z value was smaller than the -Z table (-4,594 < -1,960), and the p-value was smaller than α (0,000 < 0,050), so the decision was taken that H0 was rejected, which means that there is a significant difference in the average between pre and post-test. The conclusion of this study showed that the media is effective in teaching English vocabulary
Secondary School English Teachers’ Viewpoints towards the Implementation of Kurikulum Merdeka
The curriculum reform encourages all schools in Indonesia to gradually adapt and try to use Kurikulum Merdeka although many of them are still implementing the 2013 curriculum. This study aims at investigating the secondary school English teachers’ viewpoints toward Kurikulum Merdeka. Through a qualitative approach, this study brings up the urgency of the teacher's voice as the ones implementing the curriculum in the practical field. Drawing upon data collected by means of questionnaires and interviews, this study reveals a multi-dimensional structure of teachers’ viewpoints. There are 13 teachers being involved in this study from 13 different secondary schools. They were purposively chosen as they are partner schools of English Language Education Department UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya having adequate assets for implementing Kurikulum Merdeka-based learning. There are several main themed viewpoints found through this study which deals with the understanding of the curriculum, the implementation and the barriers encountered and the current needs. First, teachers mostly know the terms related to Kurikulum Merdeka but they do not exactly know the meaning. Another viewpoint is that the teachers whose school have tried to implement Kurikulum Merdeka partly, have issues in designing the Teaching Module and formulating the elements within the Teaching Module. Some of them have actualized the Teaching Module into real practice and issues dealing with it emerged as they implement it. The study leads to the urgency of training on designing and implementing Kurikulum Merdeka for the teachers, especially those from private schools
Facilitating Mentally Retarded Students in Learning English Vocabulary through Rolling Ball Media at SLB BC Sasanti Wiyata Surabaya
Abstract, each student has different needs and characteristics, and teachers must adapt learning techniques according to the needs and characteristics of students for successful learning. Learning media is one of the methods or tools used in the teaching and learning process. This is done to stimulate learning patterns in order to support the success of the teaching and learning process so that teaching and learning activities can be effective in achieving the desired goals. This also applies when teaching mentally retarded students, teachers can use the media to change information effectively. Rolling ball is one of the media that can be used by teachers in teaching English vocabulary to mentally retarded students. This study aims to describe the use of Rolling Ball Media to facilitate mentally retarded students in learning English vocabulary and to find out what the mentally retarded students’ responses toward the use of Rolling Ball Media in Learning English vocabulary. The subject of this research are the English teacher and mentally retarded students who have experience in teaching English vocabulary using rolling ball media at SLB Sasanti Wiyata Surabaya. The researchers use a descriptive qualitative method. The researchers found that the use of rolling ball learning media has been going well. A rolling ball was used as an evaluation in the vocabulary learning process. By using rolling ball, mentally retarded students can easily remember the vocabulary that has been studied previously because in the rolling ball media there are many game activities that students can do. Learning using 'rolling ball' as a teaching medium can improve the English vocabulary of mentally retarded students. Mentally retarded students can increase the sense of brotherhood between friends and teachers easily and effectively, and also, with this media, mentally retarded students can remember and understand lessons.
 
Students’ Perception on Synchronous Learning of Writing Through Zoom Chat Respond
Zoom Cloud is definitely one of the major tools of distance learning during 2019 until now. Writing is a course that need direct feedback of the students work. The objectives of the study are finding the students’ perception of writing course 2 of learning writing through zoom chat respond. Zoom Chat is a feature provided by the application, but mostly has not been used for more valuable learning tools. This present study uses qualitative research that describes the data from the questionnaire and interview. The participants were 25 students of class 4B English Education Department UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. The result of the study shows that using Zoom chat respond can stimulate students to get motivated in answering the questions because their writings are directly read by lecturers and other friends
An Analysis of Digital Resource Implementation on Students’ Speaking Performance
The research entitled “An Analysis of Digital Resources Implementation on Speaking Performance at Vocational High School” is aimed to answer the question how is the implementation digital resources in speaking performance, The research also tries to find out how is the implementation digital resources in speaking performance. In addition, how are the perception of the English teachers and students’ about the implementation of digital resources for speaking performance? The case study as its research method and descriptive qualitative is used as a design of this research. There are three instruments used to collect the data. First is the observation of field-notes, second is the interview for the English teacher and students, and third is a documentation of related lesson plan and syllabus. Techniques for analyzing qualitative data, such as collecting data, reduction data, display data, and conclusion/verification. As a result, it was found that the implementation of digital resource on students’ speaking performance worked well. This was evident from the answers of the students when this method was introduced, because they positively evaluated the method used; they actively participate in the learning process. The implementation of digital resources also greatly supports learning activities to improve this aspect of speaking skills and increase student autonomy, which in turn can facilitate students' the ability to use these skills communicatively
Novice Researcher Experiences in Publishing Article A Study at English Education Department UINSA
Students on the undergraduate level known as novice researchers are expected to have experiences in research and publication during their study. As novice researchers, English education students are also expected to participate in research projects and write research articles for publication. This study aimed to explore novice researchers' experiences in research and publication related to the motivation and challenges among English education department students of UINSA. This study is a qualitative study that used questionnaire and interview guidelines as the research instrument to gather data from 17 students of English education department who has submit their article to journal. The findings of this study are; (1) Students are motivated to work on research and publication to completing assessed coursework during their study, gaining new knowledge and fulfilling their personal satisfaction. (2) The challenges students faced during the research and publication are finding the references that related to their study, collecting the data, presenting the result into a research article. Additionally, during the publication waiting process becomes a challenge that most of the students face. From the findings it can be conclude that most of the English education department students UINSA motivated to participate in research and publication to complete a specific course during their study. However, only few of the students who submit their article for publication because they faced varied challenges in the process of publication such as the waiting and revision process
Examining the Pros and Cons of Using Game-based Learning for Vocabulary Instruction to Junior High School Students
Recent years have seen a considerable change within the educational environment, this is partly down to innovation in technology and teaching methods. Game-based learning (GBL) is one of the well-known approaches to include game elements in instructional processes to enhance student engagement and learning results. Based on the background above, this study focuses on investigating the advantages and disadvantages of GBL in teaching new vocabulary for seventh grade students at class VII-A of SMPN 25 Surabaya. The researcher conducted a qualitative descriptive study using an open-ended questionnaire to six students in the class for data collection to describe their perspectives. According to the results of the study, GBL provided an exciting and interesting atmosphere that gave rise to students' interest in learning English which referred to attention and comprehension. The investigation in question identified a number of problems, most notably those that pertained to technology limitations, for example device accessibility and internet connection issues, which can hinder the effectiveness of the GBL approach in the classroom
