Inter- and Transdisciplinary Collaboration in an International Research Project – The Case of the German-Ghanaian Project EnerSHelF (Energy-Self-Sufficiency for Health Facilities in Ghana)
Interdisciplinary research (IDR) is a widely applied research approach, combing the efforts of multiple academic disciplines to work on complex problems. Within transdisciplinary research (TDR), non-academic stakeholders participate in the project and offer hands-on experience to the research. These integrative approaches are praised for the ability for addressing ‘wicked problems’ and can lead to new perspectives on relevant contemporary challenges. This working paper is analysing the cooperation and exchange of involved disciplines in the German-Ghanaian interdisciplinary research project Energy-Self-Sufficiency for Health Facilities in Ghana (EnerSHelF). The results are presented in a Collaboration Frequency Network (CFN) as well as qualitatively examined to unravel the level of interaction and perspectives on chances and challenges of IDR and TDR. The analysis shows that disciplinary closeness, data collection and exchange, and individual effort are affecting the level of collaboration among other reasons. Concluding the authors develop recommendations for future IDR and TDR projects
The Association between Physical Fighting and Victimisation by Traditional Bullying and Cyberbullying among Adolescents in 27 European Countries: The Moderating Effects of Perceived Social Support and Public Education Spending
Literature indicates scarcity of cross-national research on the association between physical fighting and bullying victimisation among adolescents, and the moderating role of perceived social support and education spending on this association. Using multilevel binary logistic regression, this study examined the association of physical fighting with traditional bullying and cyberbullying victimisation, with public education spending and perceived social support from families and teachers as moderators. Country-level data were combined with 2017/18 Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) survey data from 162,792 adolescents (11-, 13- and 15-year-olds) in 27 European countries. Results showed that physical fighting was positively and significantly associated with cyberbullying and traditional bullying victimisation. These results signify that physical fighting is a robust predictor of bullying victimisation. The findings demonstrate that perceived social support and education spending buffered the association of physical fighting with traditional bullying and cyberbullying victimisation. The findings imply that social support not only prevents adolescents from engaging in physical fights, but also reduces the risk of bullying victimisation. Accordingly, to deter adolescents from engaging in physical violence and reduce the risk of bullying victimisation, there is need to fully comprehend the influence of physical fighting on bullying victimisation, and the moderating role of social support

Eine breitere Öffentlichkeit indes hat von dem Jubiläum schon gar nichts mehr mitbekommen: Auch ein Indiz für die gesellschaftliche Stellung, die der (Online‑)Journalismus heute einnimmt
The evolutionary path of the epithelial sodium channel delta-subunit in Cetartiodactyla points to a role in sodium sensing
The epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) plays a key role in osmoregulation in tetrapod vertebrates and is a candidate receptor for salt taste sensation. There are four ENaC subunits (alpha, beta, gamma, & delta) which form alpha beta gamma or delta beta gamma-ENaCs. While alpha beta gamma-ENaC is a maintenance protein controlling sodium and potassium homeostasis, delta beta gamma-ENaC might represent a stress protein monitoring high sodium concentrations. The delta-subunit emerged with water-to-land transition of tetrapod vertebrate ancestors. We investigated the evolutionary path of ENaC-coding genes in Cetartiodactyla, a group comprising even-toed ungulates and the cetaceans (whales/dolphins) which transitioned from terrestrial to marine environments in the Eocene. The genes SCNN1A (alpha-ENaC), SCNN1B (beta-ENaC) and SCNN1G (gamma-ENaC) are intact in all 22 investigated cetartiodactylan families. While SCNN1D (delta-ENaC) is intact in terrestrial Artiodactyla, it is a pseudogene in 12 cetacean families. A fusion of SCNN1D exons 11 and 12 under preservation of the open reading frame was observed in the Antilopinae, representing a new feature of this clade. Transcripts of SCNN1A, SCNN1B and SCNN1G were present in kidney and lung tissues of Bottlenose dolphins, highlighting alpha beta gamma-ENaC's role as a maintenance protein. Consistent with SCNN1D loss, Bottlenose dolphins and Beluga whales did not show behavioural differences to stimuli with or without sodium in seawater-equivalent concentrations. These data suggest a function of delta-ENaC as a sodium sensing protein which might have become obsolete in cetaceans after the migration to high-salinity marine environments. Consistently, there is reduced selection pressure or pseudogenisation of SCNN1D in other marine mammals, including sirenians, pinnipeds and sea otter

CBOR Object Signing and Encryption (COSE) Key Thumbprint
This specification defines a method for computing a hash value over a CBOR Object Signing and Encryption (COSE) Key. It specifies which fields within the COSE Key structure are included in the cryptographic hash computation, the process for creating a canonical representation of these fields, and how to hash the resulting byte sequence. The resulting hash value, referred to as a "thumbprint", can be used to identify or select the corresponding key
