The Urgency of Fatwa as a Legal Ijtihad on Medical Cannabis Legalization in Indonesia
This article offers a discussion on the law on medical cannabis utilization in the health sector from the perspective of the fatwas (official statement from an Islamic religious leader) of the Indonesian Islamic Scholar Assembly (MUI) and the Tarjih Council of Muhammadiyah (Muhammadiyah Organizational Ijtihad Institution). This paper aims to provide insight into the legalization of medical cannabis in Indonesia and review the policies of other countries that have legalized cannabis for medical purposes. There needs to be a firm statement of MUI and Islamic organizations such as Muhammadiyah on this issue. This paper employed the normative research method. It used the statute approach to profoundly analyze the available legal materials. The data were sourced from secondary legal materials. The data were collected by reading, studying, and understanding the materials related to the legal issue. The data were analyzed using the qualitative technique. Research results showed the findings that the fatwas of MUI and Tarjih Council of Muhammadiyah permit the usage of medical cannabis for treatment under emergency reasons and with strict supervision from doctors. It is crucial to have a fatwa in determining the legalization of medical cannabis, considering that Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world, and up to now, there has not been a firm legal policy that regulates the use of medical cannabis. The existence of a fatwa in determining the law benefits human beings both in the world and in the Hereafter. Apart from that, it brings tranquility in resolving the issue of the Muslim community. This paper brings novelty as it provides information on how other Muslim countries view the legalization of cannabis as well as the perspectives of MUI and the Tarjih Council of Muhammadiyah on this issue

Virtuality of Online Religion in Cyberspace: Study of Virtual Hajj in Metaverse Discourse
The article examines the phenomenon of shifting religion in Cyberspace, where the practices from the offline to the online sphere are indicated by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has changed the social structure and behaviour of Indonesian society. For the most part, hajj metaverse discourse tends to use this new public space to be a clear visual manifestation of religious identity. Using this theoretical framework of Champbell and Sheldon, religion needs to adjust to all threats and risks in Cyberspace. The article questions to what extent the metaverse Hajj discourse has shifted religious authority in Cyberspace. How has the pandemic impacted the discourse of Hajj through the metaverse? as seen from the debate of restrictions on places of worship and leading to alternative ways to enjoy the Hajj pilgrimage during the COVID-19 pandemic? Using qualitative methods and ethnographic study, discourse on metaverse hajj makes it impossible to shift religious authority because, in historical, legal, and procedural terms, it is problematic to apply in Muslim society. On the other hand, the ritual of Hajj cannot be broken because a series of activities requires physical presence. The second finding is that the law of Hajj in the metaverse to spread COVID-19 does not validate the Hajj itself because it does not fulfil the pillars of Hajj. Findings reveal that while the metaverse offers potential benefits such as increased accessibility and immersive experiences, it also raises concerns regarding fulfilling Hajj's core tenets, which require physical presence and adherence to specific rituals. The study concludes that although virtual Hajj may serve as a supplementary tool for education and familiarization, it cannot replace the actual pilgrimage due to its inherent limitations in fulfilling the religious obligations associated with Hajj. This research contributes to understanding how digital transformation influences religious practices and highlights the tension between technological advancements and traditional rituals
The Cipete Vs Situbondo Feud (1983-1984): Study of Khittah NU Return and Its Impact on PBNU Political Policy
This article aims to look at the history of the feud between the Cipete camp, namely the KH Idham Chalid camp and supported by NU politician cadres with the Situbondo camp supported by non-political scholars in the context of searching for NU identity (Khittah NU) and its implications for PBNU’s political policies during the leadership of Gus Yahya Cholil Staquf, both national politics and practical politics in the 2024 elections. This article is a library research study with historical methodology, namely heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The research found that the conflict between the Situbondo camp and the Cipete camp was a tug-of-war over the search for NU’s identity, which was allegedly pushed very far into the realm of practical politics and neglected other fields. To settle the dispute, a reconciliation was made between the two camps in 1984, and both continued the NU congress in Situbondo, which gave birth to a new PBNU leadership, a return to the basic values of NU as a social organisation, withdrawing from various aspects of practical politics, and accepting the single principle of Pancasila. When viewed in the context of 2024, the PBNU led by Gus Yahya Cholil Staquf (period 2022 to 2027) is guided by the Khittah NU and stops all practical political activities, especially in the face of the 2024 elections. PBNU, under Gus Yahya’s leadership, asserted its neutrality and independence as a form of NU’s Khittah in all kinds of practical politics. The issue of PBNU’s alignment with one of the Presidential and Vice Presidential candidate pairs in the 2024 elections was dismissed and denied by PBNU. PBNU carries out national politics by ensuring the safety of Indonesia's religion, nation, and state, especially after the 2024 elections

Are Humanities Heading for Extinction? Analysis of Anthropocene Ecocriticism, Geo-Ecocriticism, and Islamecocriticism
Serious concerns have been circulating in academia regarding humanities and how they have been relegated to the backbenches. Data reveal a remarkable decline in submissions for humanities if compared to non-humanities. The current paper proposes that despite this decline, humanities have always been and will continue to be a moving force in shaping intellectual attitudes worldwide. To prove this standpoint, the author employs ecocriticism and eco-poetry as influential sub-disciplines of humanities. With the rocket-speed changeability of the present time, ecocriticism and eco-poetry play a crucial role in judging, evaluating, or even changing the course of cultural advancements if they venture into destructive paths. In other words, ecocritical theory is concerned with monitoring and unveiling versatile anthropocentric activities, most of which are destructive to nature. Fortunately, with the help of authors writing under the influence of ecocriticism, the devastation of many natural spots came to an end. Thus, the study begins by introducing some important phases of the ecocritical project like Anthropocene ecocriticism, Geo-ecocriticism, and Islamecocriticism. Then, an Islamecocritical analysis of "Lake Selby" by Canadian poet I. Layton is presented. The lake suffered from multiple ecological problems. However, the poem along with other scientific warnings successfully alerted the Canadian government. Consequently, the lake's condition improved. Both sections of the study affirm that humanities shape human culture, and they are real and valid disciplines that complement the work of non-humanities. The argument is qualitative, being concerned with literary criticism. Therefore, the research methodology is primarily analytical and descriptive
