A Study on the Visualization of Alfred Lord Tennyson’s Idylls of the King by Julia Margaret Cameron’s Photographs
This paper discusses the characteristics of Julie Margaret Cameron’s photographs used as illustrations in Illustrations to Tennyson’s Idylls of the King and Other Poems Vol. 1( 1874)and Vol. 2,( 1875) by comparing them and their techniques with those of illustrations by her contemporary illustrators, Paul Gustave Doré, and Pre-Raphaelite artists: Dante Gabriel Rosetti, William Holman Hunt and Daniel Maclise, who contributed their illustrations to so-called ‘the Moxon Tennyson,’ Alfred Lord Tennyson’s Poems, published, in 1857. Cameron’s interpretation of Tennyson’s text with her photographs shows her interests in expressing female characters’ psychological feelings by selecting lyrical part of the basically epical poem with her unique photographic techniques called ‘soft focus’ and manipulations on her negative plates. Her photographs as illustrations for Idylls of the King look strongly influenced by Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood painters’ attitude toward book illustrations, in which human emotion and inner consciousness are focused rather than the narrative messages of the text.departmental bulletin pape
A literature study on experiences and emotions accompanying surrogacy decision-making by family members of elderly patients
This study aims to identify the characteristics of research trends and findings on the experiences and emotions accompanying surrogacy decision-making by family members in the health of elderly patients in Japan. We reviewed the literature published from 2015 to 2022. Of the reviewed literature, the analysis identified seven references meeting the criteria of paper type, research questions and participants. The research design of all the references was a qualitative study based on interviews. The main results of the analysis on experiences and emotions in proxy decision making by family members of elderly patients were divided into the following four categories: experiences and emotions in family crisis situations, experiences and emotions accompanying surrogacy decision-making by family members, emotional turmoil in and after surrogacy decision-making by family members, and relationships with the patient and surroundings in surrogacy decision-making by family members. These results affirmed the great emotional burden of surrogacy decision-making by family members and suggest the need for support of health care professionals and institutional measures to reduce the burden.departmental bulletin pape
A case with Parkinson's disease whose exercise habits of ground golf had a positive effect on long-term disease prognosis
A patient with Parkinson's disease (PD) who developed tremor in the right hand at age 58 and was clinically followed up to age 82. PD mainly changes dopaminergic neurons in the midbrain. It is a progressive neurodegenerative disease.PD is one of the intractable diseases in Japan. This patient needs a companion to go to the hospital. However, he was able to walk independently during outpatient care, even though 24 years have passed since the onset of symptoms. Good long-term prognosis of PD is rare. One of the factors that contributed to the favorable long-term prognosis of this patient was considered an exercise habit of ground golf continued throughout the duration. Safe habits and hobbies for the elderly of whole-body exercise such as ground golf, which can be continued like a game, are favorable for the long-term prognosis of PD.departmental bulletin pape
