Multilayer Encapsulation of Biological Media for Controlled Release Coatings
This classroom module will help students understand "how a polymer based multilayered coating method can be used to control the release of biological agents for different applications." The experiment is described step by step in the document; photographs are also included. The activity is intended for high school students in advanced biology classes, but may also work for college classes. The experiment should take about 40 minutes to complete. Hardness Testing of Materials
This learning activity will provide an introduction to the tools used for hardness testing of various materials through either in-class demonstration or a PowerPoint presentation and lab combination, depending on the preference of the educator and equipment available. Students will learn about the factors that affect the hardness of a material and explore the circumstances under which the same materials can have different hardness values. This module is intended for advanced high school or introductory college students and is intended to follow the MatEd 'Hardness of Brass' activity or other introductory hardness lesson. On the Pulse of Technological Advances
The ATETV project delivers web-based videos to connect students to careers in advanced technology. In this episode of ATETV, industry partnerships, architectural technology, and underwater robotics are discussed. Community colleges provide hands-on education with a direct link to what is going on in industry. Such technical programs tailor their curriculum so that students gain an understanding of what is involved in working in the field. These programs are also at the forefront in emerging technologies such as remotely operated vehicles, and provide the employees of the future with a strong educational foundation.
