This article reported a qualitative study that examined the use of debate to promote students’ reflective understanding of research ethics. The study was conducted in a qualitative methodology class for undergraduate students in psychology. Data were collected from 36 students attending the class by using an open-ended questionnaire. There were four questions in the questionnaire which were intended to gauge students’ understanding of ethical issues in qualitative research. The questionnaire was distributed twice, before and after the students engaged in the debate. During the debate, the students had to argue about dilemmatic research situations that reflected ethical issues in research. Thematic analysis was used to qualitatively examine and compare the students’ responses, before and after the debate. The findings suggested four themes that represented a shift in the students’ understanding of research ethics. These themes indicated the emergence of more contextual and reflective views of research ethics among the students.Â

    Get PDF
Siblings play a significant role in the process of forming identity among adolescents. Therefore, this research examined the role of sibling characteristics such as gender and order of birth in moderating the quality of relations among siblings and adolescent identity formation. The respondents were adolescents aged 12-21 years, with at least one sibling having a maximum age gap of 4 years. The data collection technique used two measurement scales involving the warmth and closeness subscale in the Sibling Relationship Questionnaire and The Utrecht-Management of Identity Commitments Scale. Additionally, the hypothesis was tested using a tiered regression test. The analysis showed the role of same-gender characteristics and birth order strengthens the relationship between siblings with three aspects of identity formation, including commitment, in-depth exploration, and reconsideration of commitment. This finding indicates that adolescents having same-gender and older siblings have better relationship qualities that contribute to a more optimal identity formation

    Get PDF
The Covid-19 pandemic has caused most schools and universities in Indonesia to face a new learning situation called Pembelajaran Jarak Jauh (PJJ) or online learning. Furthermore, this situation also has an impact on first-year students who are about to enter higher education. As the pandemic gets worse, they are not able to get to know their social and academic environment face-to-face. Thus, this study aimed to find the role of online-formed peer relationships on students' academic motivation during the online learning period. Based on a sample of 118 first-year students from a university, this study found that participants had a high quality of peer relationships and academic motivation. Moreover, peer relationships significantly predict students' academic motivation. However, participants who had interacted entirely online with their friends had a significantly lower quality of peer relationships. This result suggests the importance of building good peer relationships to support students' academic motivation, especially in the pandemic

The results showed that the reliability test of the composite score is 0.616 with the results of the CFA loading factor 0.30 with 18 valid items and four dimensions explaining 23% of the variables. For the criteria validity, there is no significant relationship between the MCDL Day's instrument and the dimensions in Papikostick

The measurement of marital quality has been done in many countries including Indonesia. This article described the characteristics of the item parameter endorsement index and item fit model in the data as the results of measurement of marital quality of Javanese people. The 420 couples (N = 840) from Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, Solo, Banyumas, and Pekalongan involved this research. The data collected were analyzed using the Rasch model with the Quest program. Get PDF
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a pervasive developmental disorder that results in individuals having difficulties organizing behavior to be more focused because of the need to always seek stimulation from the environment, which causes problems in self-regulation. The thing that causes children to have difficulties managing stimuli from the environment is their difficult condition to focus or inattention. This study aimed to determine the effect of attention and self-regulation in children with ADHD and to see the effect of increased attention on improving self-regulation of children with ADHD through play therapy with puzzles. The design of this study was a non-equivalent control group design. The technique of taking the subject used purposive sampling. The scale used to measure the pretest and post-test was the Indonesian Hyperactive Child Rating Scale (SPPHAI) to measure the attention, and the Self Control Rating Scale (SCRS) to measure self-regulation. Our results seems indicated a positive effect of attention improvement on self-regulation development in children with ADHD through play puzzle therapy. The experimental group receiving puzzle play therapy had better self-regulation compared to the control group receiving no treatment. The experimental group subjects also showed a lower increase of self-regulation based on the research results.  This fact clarified that there are other potential contributing factors in the improved self-regulation among control group subjects. This study concluded that there was an effect of increasing attention to self-regulation through a therapy of playing puzzles in children with ADHD conditions

This study focuses more on identifying the role of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) in predicting public intentions to get the Covid-19 vaccine in Special Region of Yogyakarta. Three hypotheses were then put forward in the form of attitude (H1). Subjective norms (H2) and perceived behavioral control have a positive and significant effect on Covid-19 vaccination intention (H3). By using a quantitative method through a cross-sectional survey approach involving 426 respondents, the results of this study ultimately concluded that Covid-19 vaccination intention was determined by attitudes towards the Covid-19 vaccine (β = 0.447, T-Value = 8,079, p-value = 0.000), subjective norm (β = 0.176, T-Value = 3.271, p-value = 0.001) and perceived behavioral control (β = 0.263, T-Value = 6.348, p-value 0.000). And among the three, attitudes were found to be the strongest and most significant predictor of Covid-19 vaccination intention. Several limitations and suggestions were also proposed in this research
