Internalization of Spiritual Intelligence Value Based on Surau Education in Social Studies Instruction
This article aims to provide an overview of the research on the internalization of surau education-based spiritual intelligence values in social studies instruction. The method used is qualitative approach carried out in a natural setting, so that the researcher interacts closely with the research subject to find the meaning of the information extracted from the informants. The results of the study indicate that value education that is internalized in social studies instruction is the main foundation that cannot be abandoned in the education system, as 1) social change in society is an unavoidable condition, 2) the younger generation must face change. Therefore, the research found several values of spiritual intelligence, such as: 1) the value of the heart, i.e. being devoted to Allah SWT, being honest, worshiping sincerely and sincerely, and being responsible. 2) the value of compassion, which consists of a sense of togetherness, mutual love and respect, helping each other, and adapting wherever they are. 3) the value of thinking, which consists of the ability to think critically, intelligently, creatively, innovatively and open to change. 4) The value of sports, which aims to train students physically through scouting activities, martial arts, rago football, mountain climbing, and other sports
Internalization of Moral Character Values through the Role of Dalihan natolu (Case Study on Manyonggot-Manyonggoti Tradition of the Angkola Batak Tradition)
The Indonesian government emphasizes that customary and cultural values must not be abandoned in carrying out every aspect of the life of the nation and state. However many young people seem to stutter about their own nation's culture and even local wisdom values are increasingly being eroded by global changes that have penetrated the world. Therefore, re-discovering local values to be used as a model of value education is urgent. This study aims to describe the internalization of local wisdom values through the role of dalihan natolu in the manyonggot-nyonggoti tradition which is character education for pregnant women. The method used is a qualitative approach with a qualitative-phenomenological approach paradigm, namely describing the meaning of the informant's life related to concepts or phenomena carried out in natural settings. Therefore, researchers interact closely with research subjects to find the meaning of information and social settings extracted from informants. The informants of this research consisted of Mora, Kahanggi, Anak Boru, and traditional leaders. The results showed that the manyonggot-nyonggoti tradition contains very good character values to be explored and used as a model for character education in the Angkola Batak and Indonesian society in general. Several character values were found, such as: moral values, social values (empathy, caring) and religious values, discipline, independence, help each other, love, generous and respect for gifts. Therefore, it can be said that the manyongot-nyonggoti tradition is very good to be explored and used as a model for character education
Antimicrobial Activity of the Rhizospheric Bacillus Species Isolated from Potato (Solanum tuberosum) Organic Farm Soils in the Philippines
The purpose of this study is to determine the potential of rhizospheric bacteria belonging to the genus Bacillus isolated from the organic soil of Solanum tuberosum (potato) as an untapped and promising source of novel antimicrobials to combat infections, particularly multidrug-resistant strains. The rhizospheric Bacillus species were isolated using serial dilution and aerobic cultivation. Hydrolytic exoenzyme production was determined using plate techniques, whereas antimicrobial activity was determined using the cross-streak method and agar-disc diffusion assay. The data indicate that the Bacillus isolates possess antimicrobial property against gram-positive bacterial pathogens. The activities were compared to those of the antibiotic Rifampicin as a control. Notably, several Bacillus isolates inhibited the growth of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The top performing Bacillus isolates were identified by 16s rRNA gene sequence analysis, which showed the similarities of the isolates to known soil-associated and plant-growth-promoting species; B. velezensis, B. mojavensis, B. subtilis, B. sonorensis, B. tequilensis, B. clausii, B. amyloliquefaciens, B. altitudinis, and B. siamensis from those sequences available in GENBANK. The present investigation establishes the presence of antagonistic Bacillus species in S. tuberosum's rhizosphere. The findings may form the basis for further investigation of the active compounds produced by the isolates and the mechanisms underlying their antimicrobial activity, while optimizing the culture medium for efficient production of potent antimicrobial compounds to combat infectious agents may further be investigated
Principals’ Conceptual Managerial Skills and Teachers’ Instructional Effectiveness in Secondary Schools, Central Gondar Zone, Ethiopia
The purpose of the study was establishing the relationship between conceptual skills of the school principals and instructional effectiveness of the teachers in secondary schools, Central Gondar region, Ethiopia. The study proposed to use a correlational research design. The population of the study were 50 principals, 50 vice principals and 1,500 teachers, totaling 1,588 personnel. Due to their small number and importance to the research, all school principals and vice principals were selected using the census technique. 307 teachers were chosen using simple random sampling techniques by Cochran formula. The closed-ended questionnaire was used as the primary method for both principal and teacher data collection instruments. The expert-judgment methodology was used to verify the validity of the instruments and the reliability of the instruments tested using Cronbach's alpha test score. The data was analyzed by using Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient. The study revealed that there was no statistically significant relationship between the principals’ conceptual managerial skills with teachers ‘instructional effectiveness. The study concludes that principals’ conceptual managerial skills have no significant relationship with teachers’ instructional effectiveness. In light of the findings, recommendations for school principals, teachers, Ministry of Education and suggestions for further research were discussed
Economic Scrutiny of Structural Change and Occupational Diversification in India – A Look at Post-Reform Period
Expansion and creation of employment opportunities have been the unstated objectives being followed since the early 1990s in India. After the emergence of new economic reforms, economic development has shown a growing trend, but employment growth during the period from 2012 - 2019 has drastically fallen in absolute numbers after the marginal improvement during the commencement of economic reforms. The people are moving towards low-productivity sectors and shoddier the quality of employment. The present study examines the recent trends of structural changes in economic development and occupational diversification in India and tries to identify the outcome and ineptitude of the ongoing vicious pattern of economic development and employment. The paper argues that the structural changes are bounded to output level only, there is no transformation of labours between the sectors that lead to more unemployment. The increasing share of unemployment having the intermediate and advanced education led to the increase of employment in the informal sector for their livelihood. India's inclusive growth will be impossible to achieve unless the informal sector's share of total employment does not reduc
Psychometric Properties and Derivation of Norms for an Amharic Version of Vineland Adaptive Behavioural Scale for Children with Intellectual Disability in Ethiopia
Adaptive functions of children with intellectual disability are assessed through administration of different tools. This study examined psychometric properties and derivation of norms for an Amharic Version of Vineland adaptive behavioural scale for children with intellectual disability in Ethiopia. The research was a cross- sectional study conducted on children with intellectual disability in Addis Ababa after obtaining an approval from Addis Ababa University. Finding of the present study revealed that, the Amharic version of VABS-II had a high overall internal consistency alpha coefficient (0.83), in the Ethiopian sample which is similar to Western findings; hence VABS-II is a reliable tool for measuring adaptive behavioural functions for children with intellectual disability. VABS II scores of Ethiopian sample were compared to the scale norms developed in the United States. Ethiopian sample means were consistently below the mean in the United States normative sample. The correlations between the VABS and Mekanyesus assessment tool composite and subdomain scores were all moderate. Even though Mekanyesus’s assessment tool didn’t follow proper procedure to prepare standardized tool like VABS-II survey form, it helped the school to assess children with intellectual disability modestly. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the model fit the VABS-II survey well. Thus, the Amharic version of the VABS-II survey form evidenced sound psychometric properties in Ethiopian children with intellectual disability, supporting its use in identification and intervention of children with intellectual disability. The Amharic translated version of VABS II survey form can be used in Ethiopian context for the purpose of identification and intervention of children with intellectual disabilities. This can overcome the problem of early intervention centres, families and care givers by giving them additional assessment tool that would be used in the country
