    Political Communication of Indonesian Female Regional Leaders

    The women's presence as regional leaders is one of the strategies for establishing more gender-just policies. Female regional leaders conducted diverse methods to win the votes of their constituents. The communication patterns used are diverse despite having similarities. The research aims to find out and analyze patterns and channels as well as the effects of political communication by female regional leaders in Indonesia. This study used a qualitative approach with three female regional leaders in three Javanese provinces. The research found that women tend to choose communication patterns and channels that used interpersonal communication channels to obtain political information. The female regional leaders used interactive communication patterns through social media, outdoor media, and mass media, such as television and print media. Communication channels used were personal communication channels, group communication channels, public communication channels, social communication channels, and traditional communication channels. The effect is that there is a change in the process of fighting for various public interests through verbal and nonverbal messages and mutual influence with various government policies. The research recommended that it is necessary to change the communication channel using social media massively to greet and discuss with constituents so that the effects are received massively as well

    Internet Access and the Potential in Facilitating Online Political Communication of Disabled

    Researchers defined Internet as a medium for overcoming the social exclusion of marginal groups, including the disabled. The increasing of the internet penetration in Indonesia should be an opportunity for the group to build inclusive elections. However, in the Indonesian context, non-disabled still controls virtual political space. This paper identifies the potential of the internet as a means of online political participation of disabled groups. Using the case study method in the context of 2018 Central Java Pilgub, researchers conducted in-depth interviews with the disabled, election organizers and disabled educational institutions in the Semarang city. The findings of the study indicate that certain diffables (physical, deaf and mild disabilities) have access to the internet, however there is no access to the interactive political communication. The internet has not functioned optimally as an Assistive Technology (AT) mainly caused by digital divide; skepticism to the internet and limited internet literacy

    Optimizing Social Media Platforms as Information Disemination Media

    As a government agency that plays a central role in regulating the entire state budget and revenue (APBN), the Ministry of Finance needs public support and trust. Therefore, it is necessary to disseminate all government information to the public. One way that can be done is the use of social media as a platform in conveying information to the public. Through research using the constructivist paradigm with a qualitative approach and descriptive content analysis, it is expected to illustrate how the Ministry of Finance optimizes the advantages of each social media platform to disseminate government information to the public. The results of this study are presented in the form of strategies for optimally utilizing social media so that they can be an example for various ministries and other government agencies to support the success of the country's current goal of becoming an Advanced Indonesia

    Celebrity Cake Branding as the Initiators of Nowadays Cake

    The development of business culinary in Bandung city invited Indonesian national celebrities to invest in cake shops. Laudya Cynthia Bella, with her Bandung Makuta, and Ananda Omesh, with his Bandung Kunafe, were the initiators. The research aimed to assimilate the branding methods of Bandung Makuta and Bandung Kunafe as nowadays cakes. The research used a combination between a qualitative method and a study-case approach. The data was collected by performing interviews, observation, literature review, and online data gathering. The research found that branding activity run by Bandung Makuta and Bandung Kunafe in the form of advertising, marketing, public relations, and special events was considered successful in making residents and tourists of Bandung visit Bandung city and purchase the products. Taglines #initehngangenin (#itismemorable) and #lembutpisaneuy (#itisalsomoist) promoted by Bandung Makuta and Bandung Kunafe, respectively, triggered the customers to be more intrigued by the products.     The research analyzed the perspectives of Indonesian students that were located in Nanjing by using Jean Baudrillard's theory of simulacra. Recently, China had been trying to revive the silk road, a line connecting the world through trade, that used to be gainful in the past, with a route called the belt road initiative. This program had unlocked China's cooperation gates with many other countries from all over the world, although much undesirable information circulated regarding this initiative, ranging from environmental issues to rumor on the sovereignty of the state of China’s partner. Through simulacra’s logic, the author outlined the perspective of Indonesian students that had studied in Nanjing, China, towards the belt road initiative. The research found that even though the students had long felt education in China and assimilated much knowledge about this country quite first-hand, they did not necessarily believe that this new route would benefit their homeland

    The face of mass media has transformed extraordinarily after internet presence. The content was no longer the dominance of media because technology and the public can participate in producing and publishing news, which raised the phenomenon of citizen journalism. Mainstream media captured this phenomenon by bringing up programs based on news that sent by citizens. This research aimed to see the implementation of basic principles of journalism on news that sent by citizens, and the causes that influenced it, on www.netcj.co.id. The basic tenets seen were accuracy and fairness. The quantitative content analysis was used to see the first problem; then, the second problem was explored by interviews. The result showed that news sent by citizens on NETCJ mostly was inaccurate (55.17%) and unfair (42.92%). The differences in educational background and experience, the status of citizen journalists, and newsroom policy were the cause of the problem

    The Identity Construction of Solo's Adolescent regarding 'Narimo Ing Pandum'

    Indonesia is a country that is well-know of its diverse ethnicities, languages, and local wisdom. The nation's potential, however, has gradually been threatened by globalization. Globalization was deemed responsible for not only the socio-cultural and local wisdom crisis but also the spread of consumptive behavior in society, including among adolescents. "Narimo Ing Pandum" (NIP) is one of the Indonesian local wisdom that is useful to minimize the problem. However, it has started to be abandoned, including in Solo and Yogyakarta, as the cities of Javanese cultural centers. This paper attempted to construct the identity of Solonese adolescents within NIP. A qualitative research method and an ethnographic approach were used. The research found 1) how the adolescent defined the characteristic of self with NIP, and 2) that NIP is an active deed of the person. The details of the results are discussed further in the paper

    Journalist's Information Organizational Patterns in Reporting Indonesian Vice President's Agenda

    The study illustrates the pattern of organizational communication on journalist's coverage in the Vice President's agenda. Journalists from various media form informational organizations in fulfilling the task of getting news. This study used a constructivist paradigm with a descriptive qualitative approach. The method used was a case study. Data collection was done by observing the journalist's communication patterns when reporting the vice president's agenda. In-depth interviews were conducted to journalists who conducted coverage in the vice president's office in 2019 and the vice president's secretariat. Other data were obtained from documents. This study found that organizational information communication was formed between journalists, vice president secretariat, and vice president itself. In terms of reporting, journalists follow information from the vice president's secretariat. However, journalists have many ways to get information about the Vice President's internal agenda. Communication patterns showed that journalists do their work by pursuing information from several sources

    Framing Analysis of the Kompas' COVID-19 Coverage: January 2020 Edition

    The advent of health risk situation brings about several challenges to be addressed, e.g., risk preparedness and clear information to reduce uncertainties. At the end of 2019, the world was once again confronted with a health-threatening situation: the emergence of the novel coronavirus. Media can construct health risk information through narratives or stories they provide. Nevertheless, not every pandemic represented was equal. The media could build risk perception about global or local outbreaks. In light of that, this article aims to describe how the media in Indonesia framed the novel coronavirus disease issue (COVID-19) before the pandemic. This article utilized the framing analysis method, literature review, and was guided by health and risk communication framework. This article provided contextual novelty by presenting the analysis of Indonesian newspaper coverage concerning health and risk communication. The research suggested that media play an important role in shaping public perception about health and risk by employing four frame functions: problem definition, causal interpretation, moral evaluation, and treatment recommendation

    Politeness Strategies Employed by the Main Characters of Lauren Weisberger’s Movie: “The Devil Wears Prada”

    This research was an interpersonal communication study on politeness strategies employed by the main characters in Devil Wears Prada movie in the context of workplace communication. This research aimed to explain politeness strategies employed by the main characters of The Devil Wears Prada movie. This was qualitative research, and the data were utterances of the three main characters containing politeness strategies. The source of the data was the script of Devil Wears Prada movie, and it was found that 135 politeness strategies occurred. It was: Bald On Record (47 times), Positive Politeness (49 times), Negative Politeness (19 times), and Off Record (20 times). The findings demonstrated that positive politeness strategies were the most frequent strategies in this movie. It indicated that the main characters tended to use positive politeness to show their respect and that they have a harmonious relationship in the workplace.This research is an interpersonal communication study on politeness strategies employed by the main characters in Devil Wears Prada movie in the context of communication in workplace.
