Female Representation on Banknotes: A Semiotic Analysis of 2022 Indonesia Banknotes
Besides their economic value, banknotes have a symbolic value through an expression of cultural identity that forms a nation. Generally, the customary design of banknotes in most countries issued by financial authorities is the portrait of notable male leaders. This research examined the banknotes for the 2022 emission yearissued by Bank Indonesia to emphasize the frequent representation of male and female images used in the issued currency. Using the interpretivism paradigm with semiotic methods, this research found that on the surface, Indonesian banknotes in the 2022 emission year seem to show a sense of appreciation for women and femininity in Indonesia but in essence still lack a sense of justice towards women
The Local Online Media Professionalism Over Candidate Framing Inside Pacitan Election 2020
The Pacitan Local Leaders Election (Pilkada Pacitan) 2020 must both run democratically and prioritize the citizens’ health in the time of the Covid-19 pandemic. Besides, Pacitan local online media are firstly allowed under regulations (PKPU No 13, 2020) to achieve the success of the elections. From this first-time involvement, the local online media are dealt with various interests trying to attract journalists or online media to stand with one or the other candidate pairs. To meet the purpose, the researchers employed qualitative research methods using framing analysis. In this case, Edelman framing analysis, with categorization choice by highlighting and eliminating other aspects, aims at building an opinion. In conformity with the results, the local online media are not neutral. Further, the news text framing of the online media professionalism in reporting the Pacitan Pilkada was as follows: 1) political culture in Pacitan, 2) ethical competence, 3) legal competence, 4) knowledge competence. Those competencies must be possessed by a journalist. Even more, they were carrying out political activities such as the 2020 Pilkada. The professionalism of journalists was necessarily needed, especially in Indonesia’s democratic party implementation to elect legislative and executive leaders who were truly coming from the people’s soul
Privacy Concerns in Digital Journalism: Balancing Transparency and Ethical Reporting
This study investigates the ethical dimensions of digital journalism with a focus on privacy, aiming to shed light on the challenges faced by journalists in balancing transparency with the protection of individual privacy rights. A qualitative analysis was conducted, incorporating case studies and an examination of legal frameworks to understand the ethical dilemmas digital journalists encounter. Additionally, established best practices were analyzed to ascertain effective strategies for addressing privacy concerns. The study revealed that journalists encounter multifaceted ethical challenges when handling personal information. Case studies underscored instances where inadequate privacy considerations led to real-world harm. Legal frameworks, including GDPR and COPPA, impose responsibilities on journalists to responsibly handle personal data. In conclusion, this study underscores the critical role of ethical reporting in the digital journalism landscape. By prioritizing privacy considerations, journalists can navigate the complex landscape, ensuring that their work upholds both journalistic integrity and individual privacy rights
Hate Speech: Commentary Analysis on Celebrity Instagram Accounts Based on Prophetic Communication
Social media has seamlessly integrated into the daily lives of countless individuals, captivating users who spend significant portions of their time scrolling through their feeds and interacting with their online connections. This digital era, however, has brought to light a darker side – the prevalence of hate speech and abusive behavior, notably among Indonesian netizens. This study seeks to identify and scrutinize official Instagram accounts of certain celebrities, focusing on the presence of hate speech. Employing a quantitative research method with content analysis, the research centers on comments made by fans. Data will be gathered, coded, and subjected to a reliability test for categorization. The findings underscore a disturbingly high incidence of hate speech on Instagram accounts, highlighting the need for intervention from multiple stakeholders, particularly within the realms of communication science and prophetic communication. This research offers invaluable insights into social media usage and paves the way for corrective measures, education, and evaluation, ultimately striving to foster a more positive and constructive social media environment for all users
Discourse Network Analysis on Delaying Elections in President Joko Widodo's Era
The postponement of elections became an issue that was widely discussed during President Jokowi's presidency, resulting in increased public distrust of politicians and politics itself and created political cynicism. Meanwhile, public distrust and political cynicism greatly influence public policies created by political leaders. Through discourse network analysis, this study wants to see the relationship between the discourse on postponing elections and the relationship between discourse and public policy. The novelty of the previous research on postponing elections lies in the theory of political cynicism which is very relevant in explaining the process of forming policies on this issue. This research looks at during (January-April 2022), the issue of postponing elections produces conflict discourse, this also explains that conflict discourse often occurs in controversial policies. This controversial policy conflict brought the public to a high level of distrust, directly proportional to the political cynicism that occurred. Finally, the neutral discourse that was present reminded political leaders to focus more on urgent problems because the impact of political cynicism also made it difficult for political leaders to make decisions
Managing Between Privacy and Sharing in Group Anti Pelakor Indonesia
Social behavioral change about privacy is phenomenon that we concern in internet user, especially in Anti Pelakor Indonesia (API) Facebook Group. This research studied about women managing private information in social media by observing how members of API Group interpreting of privacy and managing their privacy. This study focuses on the interactivity of members, the meaning of privacy, how manage privacy and what kind of factors make members choose to reveal their privacy in the group. Using a concept of privacy and theoretical approach to Communication Privacy Management (CPM), which is providing assumptions about the system to find out how humans balance decisions about reveal private information. Netnography method used to see virtual activities that occur in groups. The results of the study show that various factors influence the process of privacy disclosure. This research produces a description of how privacy management is carried out by the group members
The Role-playing Self: Virtual Ethnography Study of K-Pop Fans’ Idol-roleplaying and Self-identity in Twitter
The phenomenon of K-pop idol-roleplaying is on the rise in social media platform, particularly Twitter, among Indonesian youth. Idol-roleplaying refers to the activity where users or role-players create an account under the name and using the identity of their favorite idol, and then using it to interact with other role-players or other fans based on the image and plot that the role-player has determined. This phenomenon evokes question in regards to the identity performed by users or role-players under the veil of their idol’s identity, to the extent of how they interact with fellow role-players using that particular roleplay account. Hence, this research is significant in studying the idol-roleplaying phenomenon and the self-identity performance of fans, particularly in the context of Indonesian youth’s culture. Information Overload as a Mediator in the Relationship Between Instagram’s Social Media Use Intensity and Social Media Fatigue in Emerging Adulthood
The massive use of Instagram in Indonesia aligns with the high need for emerging adults to socialize and express themselves. This makes users face much information, making it vulnerable to causing social media fatigue. This study examines the role of the information overload variable as a mediator of the relationship between the intensity of social media use and social media fatigue in the emerging adult group. Respondents in this study were aged 18-25 years, including 145 men and 182 women. Data was collected using three scales: SONTUS Revised Version, Information Overload Scales, and the SMFS Scale, adapted into Indonesian. The collected data was tested using PROCESS Macro (Model 4) involving intermediary variables with the help of the SPSS Statistics 26.0 for Windows program. This study's results indicate a mediating effect of excess information in the relationship between the intensity of social media use and social media fatigue. Interpretation of Media System Dependency Theory on Financial Technology
A study on the interpretation of people's dependency behavior on digital technology, one of which is in the financial sector in daily life by adapting the theory of Media Dependency System. This article discusses the application of the theory which consists of (1) an analysis of dependence on fintech based on the social system of womenprenuers in Lombok; and (2) interpretation of media system dependency theory on fintech. A total of 108 samples from the population of womenprenuers in Lombok to test its statistical hypotheses. Community Protection with Local Wisdom?: Generational Communication Gap between Mamak and Kamanakan in Facing the Covid-19 Pandemic
This research is an attempt to understand communication and local wisdom centered on mamak (MmK) and kamanakan (KmN) communication in the Minangkabau community in West Sumatra in tackling the Covid-19 pandemic. The research is motivated by the reality of the world which is experiencing a crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which has caused many setbacks in all fields, especially in the social, cultural and economic fields. Data analysis was carried out by exploring and narrating community experiences, and analyzing domains that are considered potential for developing cultural communication, maintaining local wisdom and communication gaps between generations. The results of the study show that the MmK – KmN communication is still quite well maintained and useful for the educational process and solving problems that arise as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the vertical communication pattern from top to bottom places MMK as the party that knows best about the problem of communication generations gaps, so it must be modified according to the development of KmN's knowledge which is more technologically literate and has more access to various sources of information
