    Indonesia is a country with diversified ethnics, religions and races. Without spirit of tolerance this condition can emerge conflict and disunion. Mass media is one of instruments in mass communication process that filter and select news and conflict to be presented. This study investigates how mass media presents conflict with peace journalism principle as an alternative solution in handling conflicts in Indonesia. This research uses descriptive qualitative method and framing analysis. Result shows that mass media have significant roles in constructing public opinion since they have power to construct reality in public in disseminating information and values to community for achieving tolerance

    This study sought to look at the fact that twitter can shape one’s personal branding, then on the basis of this research is compiled on how the analysis elaboration likelihood model in the formation of personal branding in social media. The method used in this research is quantitative content analysis method. The study population was the whole text or tweets made by Ridwan Kamil through his twitter account (@ridwankamil). This study shows, twitter contents can shape one’s personal branding. Establishment of personal branding can be done through posts made in his twitter. The formation of personal branding is seen from the theme of writing, retweet and favorite number, type of writing, the uniqueness of writing and writing direction. Establishment of personal branding is required by a person not only through the writings conveyed through the media, but also the need for real action participation and involvement in community life

    The social movement that strongly opposed the construction of cement plant in Sukolilo, Pati, Central Java constitutes a unique social movement. This movement, which is known as protest action, was conducted in a non violent way. One of the ways to embrace people in Sukolilo is by using communication strategy, called as ‘gethok tular’. This is a communication strategy based on local wisdom owned by Samin community. In its growth, gethok tular has formed communication pattern in Samin’s social movement.     This study aims to find a model of environmental communications for disaster mitigation eruption of Mount Sinabung at Karo district of North Sumatra. This research also aims at increasing public awareness and government in improving the effectiveness of disaster communications in Sinabung. Organizational Information Theory is used as concept of his study. The research uses descriptive qualitative method by employing data collection techniques such as Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and interviews on communication training for disaster mitigation at Sinabung. The research located in Karo district of North Sumatra, particularly at Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Department of Communication and Information Technology, and Kesbanglinmas, Head sub district, Head of village, and volunteers.     This study aims to identify and analyze the process of community empowerment at “Badran thugs village” in Yogyakarta through PT. Sarihusada CSR program and to analyze communicative action of “Badran thugs village” in the empowerment process. This study is qualitative in nature using case study design. Data were collected by in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Data were analyzed using interactive model. This research concludes that (1) the people in Badran have lived with the stigma of “thugs village” characterized by poor condition of social and economic. Socially, people in Badran are less educated. Economically, people were unable to pay credit to moneylenders. The process of empowerment in Badran was initited by community leaders by taking various efforts, such as forming group activities in order to release people from the bondage of moneylenders, establishing Pusat Kegiatan Belajar Masyarakat (Community Learning Center) and early childhood program, and also to improve family health and environment. PT. Sarihusada CSR program becomes accelerator of the community empowerment process. (2) Communicative action in the community empowerment process is characterized by interaction based on the awareness and willingness to communicate empathically and ethically

    This research examines the influence of information strength on NGENEST The Movie towards social judgment. This topic has appointed based on facts that the delivery of anti-discrimination message is expected can inffluence Indonesian people about Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (unity in diversity). The purpose of this study is to find effects of a message on NGENEST The Movie towards social judgment. This research is using quantitative method with positivistic and explanative approaches .Data were colected through by questionnaires to 91 members of Stand Up Indonesia community in Jakarta, and supported by secondary data obtained from literature. Hypotheses testing has been done by doing correlation test, regression, coefficient of determination and t-test. The result shows that information strength on NGENEST The Movie has significant relation towards social judgment. The result of linear regression has been indicated by equation Y = 3,037 + 0,365 X1, with the result of hypotheses testing stating that the variable of information strength on NGENEST The Movie has significant impact on social judgment, contributing to 17,9 %. It can be concluded that the information strength on NGENEST The Movie has significant impact towards social judgment

    Modal Sosial Inklusif dalam Jaringan Komunikasi Bencana

    This research aims at identifying inclusive social capital on communication network in the disaster preparedness of Merapi explosion in 2010 by operating concepts of communication network, social capital and disaster mitigation. The objects are local people in one of villages in Merapi mountain in Central Jawa. This research used positivistical paradigm using quantitative data and supported by qualitative data. The result shows that there are four inclusive social capitals in the communication network of Merapi: (1) relation with volunteer (2) relations with SAR team and NGO; (3) relation with local government and (4) and traditional relation with Yogyakarta Kingdom. In addition, the interpretaion of inclusive social capital is the existence of reciprocal feedback form local people. Inclusive social capital has facilitated information flow on disaster preparedness, influencing agent that has role as decision maker and supporting individual credibility to get access of resources and as identity builder and Inclusive social capital is recognition of local people. This research has not found yet Inclusive social capital in term of relation between local people and university institution who has many resources to build disaster preparedness
