    Environmental Communication Model in Bengkalis’s Mangrove Ecotourism Development

    Damage to mangrove forests and abrasion are the main problems on the coast of the Bengkalis Regency. Conservation of mangrove forests by making community-based ecotourism is the best solution to this problem. This paper aims to explain the environmental communication model in the development of mangrove ecotourism. This research used a qualitative method with case studies. The results showed that environmental communication is an essential component in the successful development of mangrove ecotourism. Environmental communication planning had at least four stages, namely problem analysis, audience analysis, and goal setting; selection of communication channel and media; message development and media production; and implementation accompanied by evaluation.The model of environmental communication in the development of mangrove ecotourism in Bengkalis Regency was carried out by empowering community groups based on deliberation and mutual cooperation. Environmental communication must be integrated and managed creatively by using various communication methods and channels

    TEATER SEBAGAI MEDIA KOMUNIKASI PENDIDIKAN

    Theater performances in Indonesian society today are enjoyed by the audience only as “performances” in general, but have not been interpreted as knowledge space, learning space, self-maturing space or as an educational medium. This study aims to show that theater is a medium of educational communication that can be held through the earliest levels of education to higher education and become a space for education for the wider community. The method used in this study is a qualitative research method. In collecting data using observation and in-depth interviews and continued with interactive analysis. The research subjects that were observed and made the speakers were kindergarten (TK) teachers in Cirebon and Bandung, junior / senior high schools in Cirebon and Bandung, and instructors (students) theater in art colleges (ISBI Bandung), as well as communities in Cirebon and Bandung that use theater media in the learning process. The results of this research show that theater as a performing art is essentially a medium of communication. The conclusions of the results of this study indicate that theater must be understood as an institution, media, and part of the communication process in exploring knowledge, exchanging knowledge, and utilizing the knowledge gained

    WhatsApp application allows each individual to interact free from the boundaries of space and time, but many problems in interaction appears. This study aims to find an interaction model in communicating via WhatsApp to Telco industry workers in Jakarta. The research is carried out qualitatively with observation and interview with WhatsApp users. The result shows that the multi-cultural interaction model in virtual space can be interwoven well if the user has a good literacy in communicating through WhatsApp. This study can provide learning to each individual that interacts on WhatsApp involving individuals in multiple cultures. Messages sent to virtual space can cause multiple perceptions because members are coming from different backgrounds. This study recommends the existence of multi-cultural literacy

    This study aims to find a model for strengthening digital literacy at the University of Darussalam Gontor. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. Data are collected through observation and interviews with five lecturers in the Communication Study Program at the University of Darussalam Gontor. This research found a model of strengthening digital literacy through the use of e-learning. The model includes elements of communication and collaboration in the form of active participation in learning and research activities. It consists of individual competence components in the form of use skills, critical understanding, and communicative abilities. This research contributes to a model of strengthening digital literacy through the use of e-learning

    Resolusi Konflik Melalui Model Pengampunan Vita Activa Arendt Dalam Komunikasi Generasi Muda Kalimantan Barat

    The life of a cultural society cannot be avoided by potential conflicts that arise at any time. West Kalimantan has a history of inter-ethnic conflict, which is currently still undergoing a recovery phase. The young generation is the subject that encourages harmony in West Kalimantan. This study aims to find a model of the forgiveness process of past ethnic conflicts that occur in the young generation of West Kalimantan. This study was examined using a qualitative method through an explorative phenomenological study with the phenomenological perspective of forgiveness Hannah Arendt. The results of this study indicate that the collective relationships built by the younger generation and the occurrence of cultural acculturation help in the process of natural forgiveness. On the other hand, forgiveness is not fully realized due to the occurrence of collections of collective memory such as stereotypes, past stories, and exposure to charged media content about past ethnic conflicts in the young generation of West Kalimantan. The substance of this study is in the form of policy recommendations on the role of the community, traditional leaders, and regional governments collaborating to achieve just and prosperous reconciliation in West Kalimantan

    The Mediatization of “SARA” Conflict in Indonesian Online Media

    This study aims to analyses the news on "Aksi Damai" or "Peaceful Protest" occurred on December 2, 2016, in Jakarta related to the incumbent Jakarta Governor, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok, over a blasphemy case. The "212 Peaceful Protest" is a protest conducted by several hardliner Muslim groups against Ahok, a Chinese Christian. Ahok was accused of a blasphemy-related to his statements about politicians who exploit a verse from the Holy Qur'an, to win the elections. The study uses a concept of mediatizations with quantitative and qualitative methods to collect data through content analysis, observation, and interviews. The research subject is two online media in Indonesia, Republika.co.id and Metrotvnews.com. The news from Republika.co.id and Metrotvnews.com are being collected from November 28 to December 4, 2016. In Indonesia, Republika.co.id is considered as a media that is oriented toward Muslim agenda, while Metrotvnews.com is oriented toward nationalism agenda. The results show that both Republika.co.id and Metrotvnews.com build a media logic or mediatizations related to Ahok's blasphemy cases. Republika.co.id emphasizes a narrative on divinity and piety logic, while Metrotvnews.com builds a narrative on the importance of national unity and legal political logic. The substance this study can be concluded that efforts to disseminate the values of tolerance and appreciate the noble values of humanity in a multicultural society must be carried on

    Efek Ketergantungan Remaja K-Popers Terhadap Media Sosial di Kota Palu

    Korean culture was introduced in Indonesia since early 2000s through dramas, movies and musics. However, the Korean fever lasts about a decade. During that period, this commodity became better known as Korean Pop or K-Pop where teenagers who became the biggest consumers of this commodity known as K-Popers. K-Popers can not be separated from the technology development and the use of social media. This study is carried out using three aspects (frequency, duration and attention) of media exposure theory. The purpose of this study is to understand the effect of K-Pop information access on the teenager’s social media dependency. This study is utilizing explanatory quantitative approach based on survey to 71 10th grade students of Unified Model High School of Madani Palu. Obtained data are analyzed using linear regression method. The results of the study shows that the effect of the frequency, duration and attention aspects in the population’s access to K-Pop informations to the teenager’s social media dependency of Palu City is at 77,1%. Thus, it is concluded that there is a direct effect on K-Pop information access to the teenager’s social media dependency. The substance provided by this study offers new point of view on the educational approach of social media usage in Palu City to improve the self-control and selective behaviour of social media usage

    FAMILY COMMUNICATION PORTRAIT IN THE MIDDLE OF SOCIAL CHANGE IN BOGOR

    The advancement of information and communication technology have a positive and negative impacts on family ties and values. These developments also change the order of family life as the smallest unit in society. Family interaction and communication also change along with social change in society. The purposes of this study are: first, to explore the topics of conversation and interaction of adolescents with their families. Second, to depict four types of communication between adolescents and their families. This study was conducted for 6 months in 6 high schools in Bogor with qualitative methods. Data were obtained through focus group discussion (FGD) in each high school with a total of 12 FGDs. The number of informants involved in the FGD were 60 students aged 15-18 years old. The FGD results show that most of theadolescents shared their personal problems to peers than to parents. The topics presented by adolescents to parents included events at school (lessons, teachers, friends), television shows, ideals, sports, and politics. Some adolescents who had close relationships with parents did not hesitate to share their personal problems and interests of the opposite sex to their parents. Adolescents who had closeness to parents tend to be more open and were able to control their emotions. The findings of this study are expected to provide inputto the family as well as to improve the quality of communication between adolescents and parents

    Information Literacy For The Net Generation To Anticipate The Danger Of Intolerance

    Intolerance behaviors that are not anticipated may give birth to the danger of radicalism both psychologically and physically.  This study aims at exploring the way to select and discover informational sources related to the topics; at investigating a means of estimating, accepting, and determining the best thing in the future; at analyzing a means of building new knowledge associated with gained information; and discovering a means of providing and broadcasting information on the website.  This study used case study method in order to observe the reality of information literacy and the danger of intolerance among the net generation Observation findings show that the doctrine of intolerance was spread through group discussions of religious Student Activity Unit (UKM). The massive spread of radical viruses is supported by the dominance of the internet as the main medium in information searching. The condition is made worse by low information literacy skills. The results of this study expected to be able to be used as references relating to information literacy for the net generation to anticipate the danger of intolerance which is the forerunner of radicalism. The results showed that the low reading abilities led to a conservative interpretation of religious meanings, which considered one’s understanding more correct and accused others as infidels. This phenomenon can be seen from the discovery of limited new knowledge. Hence, the knowledge of information literacy must be introduced in lecture rooms and within intra-university activities

    The participation of communities in disaster areas is one of the important factors of disaster management. Complexity in the disasters area affects social dynamics. The most vulnerable group in a community are women, whether the physical and psychological condition.  In the context of disaster risk reduction, it is important to consider the condition of women. To understand the phenomena, this research uses Self-concept, which is discussed by George Herbert Mead in his Interaction Symbolic Theory. This research uses descriptive_qualitative method about the women in four villages on the slope of Merapi volcano, Boyolali, Central Java. These villages are located in a dangerous area during the last Merapi’s eruption. Data were collected by some techniques, such as Focus Group of Discussion, interview, document, and observation. This research found the uniqueness self-concept of women about marriage underage, the need of education, and economic sustainability
