GAMBARAN STATUS KETAKUTAN DAN KECEMASAN TERHADAP PERAWATAN GIGI DI WILAYAH ADMINISTRASI KEPULAUAN SERIBU
Background: Most frequent emotional disorders from dental patient are dental fear and anxiety. Previous experiences such as painful tooth extraction, expensive cost, trauma during the last visit to the dentist become factors in the patient’s fear of visiting a dentist. Objective: To determine the description of the fear status and anxiety towards dental care in the Kepulauan Seribu Administration area based on age, sex, income, education, insurance, and dental visits.Method: This study was comparative cross-Sectional analytical research design to determine the relationship between the level of fear and anxiety towards dental care based on sociodemographic factors by giving questionnaires. The tests used were non-parametric and chi-square test.Results: Based on the results of the chi-square test conducted on 116 respondents aged 17-65 years using the MDAS (Modifed Dental Anxiety Scale) test the variables were signifcantly difference (P 0.05). The results from Dental Fear Scale variables that were signifcantly difference were gender and education variables with values (P0,05).Conclusion: The results can be concluded that gender and education level influence the dental fear and anxiety in the Kepulauan Seribu regio
SINTESIS DAN UJI POROSITAS SCAFFOLD HIDROKSIAPATIT/ALGINAT
Background: In bone tissue engineering, scaffold is required with a large porosity of 80-90%. The porosity of the hydroxyapatite/alginate scaffold can be affected by the alginate concentration used. The objective of this study was to determine whether hydroxyapatite/alginate scaffolds with alginate concentration of 1% and 3% could be synthesized and to determine whether the use of low concentration alginates in hydroxyapatite/alginate scaffolds could increase thescaffold porosity.Methods: The method used in making scaffold was freeze drying method, while the method used to measure porosity was liquid displacement methodResult: In this study, it was found that hydroxyapatite/1% alginate scaffolds porosity had greater porosity compared with hydroxyapatite/3% alginate scaffolds with signifcant difference.Conclusion: So, it can be concluded that the use of lower alginate concentration can increase porosity in hydroxyapatite/alginate scaffolds
HERPES ASSOCIATED-ERYTHEMA MULTIFORME (HAEM) IN YOUNG ADULT
Background: Erythema multiforme is an acute and a self-limiting mucocutaneoushypersensitivity reaction triggered by infections and medications. The mostcommon predisposing factors for erythema multiforme is infection with herpessimplex virus. Herpes associated erythema multiforme (HAEM) is an acuteexudative dermatic and mucosal disease caused by the infecting herpes simplexvirus. Most common ages is in childhood.Case and management: We report a case of recurrent herpes-associatederythema multiforme in a 23-year-old female patient, with crustae lesion in thelips and in pain. The patient had history of HSV infection. The patient had afever and prodromal before the lesion emerge. And the cutaneous lesion wasmistaken with the pimpleacne.Conclusions: Although the etiology of EM is still often unknown, infections withherpes simplex virus have been implicated as common predisposing a possibleprecipitating factor. EFEKTIVITAS BERKUMUR TEH HITAM TERHADAP PENURUNAN AKUMULASI PLAK PADA ANAK USIA 7-8 TAHUN
Background: Black tea (Camellia sinensis) mouthwash is type of tea that Indonesian usually consume. Black tea contains substances which prevent caries by obstructing plaque formation. Aim: To compare the efcacy of the mouthwash containing black tea 2% and fluor solution in reducing plaque accumulation..Methods: This research was an experimental with Randomized Controlled Clinical Trials design and double blind method. Subjects were frst grade students in elementary schools 012 Pagi, Sumur Batu with total of 28 students, chosed based on simple random sampling. Plaque index measured using Loe’s and Silness’s indexResult: There were signifcant reductions in plaque index in both the groups at 4 weeks (p=0,002 and p= 0,003 fluor α 0.05, CI= -1,84-0,83).Conclusion: Black tea mouthwash is equally effective in reducing plaque accumulation compared to fluor
TINGKAT KEKERASAN PERMUKAAN RESIN KOMPOSIT AKIBAT MASA KEDALUWARSA MATERIAL
Background: Aplication of composites resin in relatively small amount as a restorative material often causing the material reaches its expiry date before all of the material can be used. Composites resin that have passed the expiry date would affect charateristic of the material. The aim of this study was to investigate surface hardness difference of composite resins based on material expiration date.Methods: This research was an experimental laboratory using post test only with control group design. Samples for this research were 27 divided into 3 groups based on its expiration date (2016, 2018 and 2019). The surface hardness was measured by Shore D Hardness. The result of this research were tested with One Way Anova and Post Hoc test LSD.Result: The lowest surface hardness result was measured on group 1 (81.02SHD) and the highest was group 3 (94.72 SHD). The result of One Way Anova test showed that there was signifcant differences in all groups (p<0.05). Post Hoc LSD test showed difference signifcantly between each groups.Conclusion: It can be concluded that there was signifcant difference of composite resins surface hardness based on material’s expiration dat
The Antibacterial Activity of Leaves Ethanol Extract, Stem Bark, and Latex of Angsana (Pterocarpus indicus Willd.) towards Bacterial Growth Streptococcus mutans as in vitro
Background: Indonesia has many types of plants, which have medicinal properties and are used to cure various diseases. One of plant that has medicinal properties is the Angsana plant (Pterocarpus indicus Willd.) which traditionally can cure dental and oral diseases.Method: This research used experimental laboratory with disc diffusion methods. Angsana (Pterocarpus indicus Willd.) was taken from as city ornamental tree in Samarinda city. The bacteria which used were Streptococcus mutans. The samples consisted of 11 treatment groups is leaves ethanol extract, stem bark, and Angsana latex respectively with concentration 25%, 50%, 75%, positive control group (chlorhexidine 0,2%), and negative control group (sterile aquades). Data analysis using Shapiro-Wilk test and One-Way Annova test.Result: The results showed that leaves ethanol extract, stem bark, and Angsana latex (Pterocarpus indicus Willd.). All concentrations have antibacterial activity against the growth of Streptococcus mutans. The highest and the lowest concentrations that can inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans are 50% ethanol stem bark extract and 25% leaves ethanol extract.Conclusion: The conclusion of this study proves that the leaves, stem bark ethanol extract, and Angsana latex (Pterocarpus indicus Willd.) Have antibacterial activity against the growth of Streptococcus mutans
ANALISA GEL KOMBINASI PLATELET RICH PLASMA DAN CHITOSAN TERHADAP PENINGKATAN JUMLAH OSTEOBLAS SEBAGAI BONE REGENERATION PADA LUKA PASCA EKSTRAKSI GIGI TIKUS WISTAR
Background: Extraction has been known as a method for removing the tooth from its socket. Although extraction is frequent, the incidence of post extraction complication are commonly found, about 2,6-30,9%. Complications can inhibit wound healing and bone regeneration of socket. PRP is Platelet Rich Plasma containing growth factors that plays an important role in wound healing, induces bone regeneration and stimulates osteoprogenitor cell into osteoblast cell. Chitosan is a chitin derivate that extracted from the crab shells through deacetylation stage. Chitosan properties are osteoinductive, biocompatible, biodegradable, cell proliferation, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antitumor, and stimulates growth factors capabilities. Purpose: To analyze the combination of PRP and Chitosan gel to increase the number of osteoblast in post extraction wound of wistar rat teeth.Method: True experimental post-test only control group design was done in 28 wistar rats. Sample were divided into 4 groups: PRP gel, combination PRP and Chitosan gel, Chitosan gel and control group Povidone Iodine. Dextra Mandible incisors were extracted and treated accordingly. Number of osteoblast in post extraction socket was observed microscopically after 14 days using IHC staining. Data analyzed by using One Way ANOVA parametric test followed by Post Hoc LSD test.Results: There were statically signifcant difference between number of osteoblast in combination PRP and Chitosan gel group compare to PRP gel group (p=0,736), Chitosan gel group (p=0,402) and Povidone Iodine group (p=0,613).Conclusion: Combination PRP and Chitosan gel has a good effect in increasingnumber of osteoblast in wound healing post dental extractio
PERBANDINGAN EFEKTIFITAS JUS LIDAH BUAYA DAN KLORHEXIDIN 0.06% TERHADAP JUMLAH KOLONI STREPTOCOCCUS MUTANS SALIVA ANAK DENGAN KARIES
Background: Aloe vera contains active components such as antrhaquinones,saponin, glucomannans, and acemannans that have been known for its antimicrobial properties. In vitro study showed that Aloe vera extract can inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans. Studies reported that children with caries have high level of salivary S. mutans which is the main pathogen in dental caries. The gold standard mouthrinse for dental caries is chlorhexidine gluconate, but it has several side effects. The objective of this study was to compare the effect between Aloe vera juice and 0.06% chlorhexidine mouth rinse on salivary S. mutans in children with caries.Methods: This experimental research with pretest and post-test control group design conducted on 30 children (6-12 years old) with number of carious teeth >4. Subjects divided into 2 groups: Aloe vera juice group and 0.06% chlorhexidine group, which instructed to rinse their mouth with 10 ml stated mouthwash, twice a day, during 7-day period. Unstimulated saliva was collected at baseline and after 7 days then inoculated on mitis salivarius bacitracin agar. S. mutans were counted and expressed in CFU/ml. Data were analyzed using paired t-test and independent t-test.Result: The result showed that a significant reduction in salivary S.mutanscounts was observed with Aloe vera juice mouth rinse and 0.06% chlorhexidine (p0.05).Conclusion: These findings suggest that Aloe vera juice can reduce salivary S. mutans in children with caries so it can be considered as alternative mouthwash to prevent caries
ANALISIS PENGGUNAAN TWIN BLOCK PADA PERAWATAN MALOKLUSI DENTOSKELETAL KELAS II DIVISI 1 DISERTAI RETROGNATI MANDIBULA BERDASARKAN CERVICAL VERTEBRAL MATURATION STAGE
Background:Class II division 1 dentoskeletal malocclusion with mandibularretrognatic can be treated with twin block appliance. The objectives of this studyare to analyse twin block appliance based on mandibular dimension and anteriorfacial height changes, and to determined the most effective time base on CVMSto begin the treatment.Method: The type of research was a retrospective analysis study usingsecondary data. The sample was 14 lateral cephalometric radiographs beforeand after treatment with twin block appliance. It was taken in IKGA RSGM FKGUNPAD 2010 to 2016. Statistic analysis used paired t-test.Results: Study shows that there is a significant change (p<0.05) in mandibulardimension and anterior facial height after treatment with twin block appliance.Changes in mandibular dimension including total mandibular length, mandibularbody length, ramus height, and gonial angle. Changes in anterior facial heightincluding lower anterior facial height and total anterior facial height. The CVMSIII group showed statistically significant result with the biggest improvement.Conclusion: The use of twin block appliance in Class II division 1 dentoskeletalmalocclusion with mandibular retrognatic could change mandibular dimensionand anterior facial height. THE EFFECT OF GAMBIER EXTRACTS (Uncaria gambir [Roxb.]) AS ANTISEPTIC ON GINGIVAL WOUND IN RATS
Background: The main principle in treatment of wounds is infection control by using antiseptic. Gambier (Uncaria gambir [Roxb.]) containing catechins and tannins reported that has an antiseptic effect. This aim of this study was to determine the effect of gambier extract as antiseptic on gingival wound in rats.Methods: In vivo study, used pretest-posttest only control group design had been conducted in Animal house, Medical Faculty of Sriwijaya University and Province’s Health Laboratory in Palembang. There were 30 white Wistar rats divided into fve groups. Group 1 was given 10% povidone-iodine ointment (positive control), group 2 was given a placebo ointment (negative control), group 3, 4, and 5 were given an ointment with 10%, 15%, and 20% gambier extracts. Gingival labial wound of the mandible was induced with cylinder diamond bur, then swabbed before and after treatment. Gingival swab samples were cultured in agar medium and incubated for 24 hours. The number of bacterial colonies from all groups were counted by colony counter. The statistical analysis was used IBM SPSS statistics version 22,0.Result: The result showed that the number of bacterial colonies from all groups decreased signifcantly after treatment, except for negative control. The higher concentration of gambier extract led the better effect of antiseptic.Conclusion: It can be concluded that gambier extract has antiseptic effect of gingival wound in rats
