L’anima minima attraverso Klossowski.

    No full text
This article aims to highlight some possible readings of Jean-François Lyotard\u27s Anima minima that, as things stand, appear to be under-researched, thus favouring the qualification of the French philosopher\u27s work as a mere ornament for his broader investigation on the sublime. As a framework, the article argues Lyotard\u27s parodic use of the concept of anima in relation to the original Aristotelian meaning, i.e. through a resemantisation such as to coincide with another Stagirite’s concept that is at its antipodes: that of automa. However the core of the work is the Lyotard\u27s interpretation through the semiotic of impulses developed by Pierre Klossowski in his Nietzsche and the Vicious Circle. Therefore emerges a characterisation of the concept of anima minima as the most radical of principles both for an aesthetics of contingency and for a perceptual model of the automa, in antithesis to an apophantic aesthetics of the subject.--

Alcune considerazioni sulla presunta "φυλλοβολια" in Ar. fr. 264 K.-A.

This brief note discusses the previous interpretations proposed for the list of dishes in Ar. fr. 264 K.-A.. By examining the sources provided by the scholars (Suet. Nero 25; Eratosth. FGrHist 14; Plut. Glor. Ath. 6, 349a 10-13), it is argued that the fragment is neither centered on an unspecified ritual nor on the habit of φυλλοβολία. A figured interpretation of the fragment in a meta-literary sense is eventually recommended

Red Gold: The Assault on the Porphyry Quarries in Trentino

    No full text
The paper analyses how the ’ndrangheta achieved to take root in the extraction of porphyry in Trentino to then extent its influence to other economic sectors and to the democratic life of the small municipality of Lona-Lases, up to the highest political and institutional exponents in the province. The results of the analysis highlights how preexisting conditions enabled ’ndrangheta to settle its first organized group (the so called “locale”) in Trentino-Alto Adige: the weaknesses and distortions which have characterized this economic sector since its birth and during its rapid development and the presence of an extended grey area.

CORAL CARBONATE PRODUCTION DURING THE PALEOCENE: INSIGHTS FROM THE MAIELLA MASSIF (PENNAPIEDIMONTE, CENTRAL ITALY)

    No full text
The succession of the Maiella massif is analyzed, focusing on the colonial-coral bearing deposits occurring just below and immediately above the Cretaceous/Paleogene boundary. The Upper Cretaceous material is dominated by rudists and larger benthic foraminifera with a significant contribution from colonial corals. In the Lower Paleocene, the first two groups are absent and colonial corals dominate the skeletal assemblage. This supports the hypothesis of a good recovery of colonial corals carbonate production following the end Cretaceous extinction and their overall resilience. Similar to modern reefs, Lower Paleocene bioconstructions have a framework dominated by corals and red calcareous algae. However, unlike modern reefs, micrite makes up the vast majority of the internal sediment, suggesting a development into a low-energy environment. Compared to Upper Paleocene coral boundstones, those from the Lower Paleocene of Maiella display a higher abundance of corals, suggesting a reduction in coral carbonate production during the Late Paleocene. This decline is also reflected by a period of scarcity of coral-dominated facies throughout the Tethys, starting from the latest Paleocene and extending till the end of the Middle Eocene. This can be connected to global temperatures, which rise in the Thanetian and remain relatively high till the end of the Middle Eocene, however, other factors most likely played a role. The quantitative analysis of the skeletal assemblage turns out to be a useful instrument for tracking the effect of environmental changes. Further data, especially from long and extensive successions of neritic carbonates such as those of Maiella, may help in disentangling the effects of the other environmental variables

A NEW FOSSIL CLARIFIES THE ANATOMY AND PHYLOGENETIC RELATIONSHIPS OF THE EOCENE GYMNODONT FISH †ZIGNOICHTHYS OBLONGUS (ZIGNO, 1874)

    No full text
The Eocene tetraodontiform fish †Zignoichthys oblongus (Zigno, 1874) from the Bolca Konservat-Lagerstätte, northeastern Italy, is redescribed in detail based upon new material. This taxon exhibits a combination of features (parasphenoid shaft-like and bearing a ventral flange; non-protractile upper jaw; teeth incorporated into beak-like jaws; premaxilla without ascending process; palatine massive and firmly connected to the ethmo-vomerine region; supracleithrum distinctly oblique) that clearly supports its assignment to the gymnodonts, suborder Tetraodontoidei. The analysis of this new material also demonstrates that the previous apparent absence of plesiomorphic characters (e.g., spiny dorsal fin) was the result of taphonomic biases. †Zignoichthys shares a number of features (basisphenoid, urohyal, beryciform foramen perforating the anterior ceratohyal, ribs, more than 20 vertebrae, epineurals, 12 principal caudal-fin rays, procurrent caudal-fin rays, unfused hypurals, autogenous haemal arch and spine of the third preural vertebra, dorsal-fin spines, scapular foramen entirely enclosed by the scapula) with the extant Triodon, which support their sister-group relationship and their basal position within the Tetraodontoidei. An analysis of the skeletal morphology of †Zignoichthys is presented and compared with that of other gymnodonts. We also compare our phylogenetic results with previous hypotheses about Tetraodontoidei relationships

    No full text
Pierre Samson (1958) draws a map of desire that crosses Brazil and blurs the boundaries of time. In Le Messie de Belém (1996), Un garçon de compagnie (1997) and Il était une fois une ville (1999), he shows a world crossed by the forbidden and violence, the force of the past haunting the present. Beneath the thin film of history, Samson offers the reader the map of our passions, and beneath Brazil, both real and imaginary, he reveals the elsewhere that hides and reveals itself within us all. It seems to me that Samson is trying to show the strength of desire, its capacity to cross prohibitions, ages, groups. At a first reading, one can easily hear echoes of Gide, Genet, and perhaps Foucault as well, the last volumes of his Histoire de la sexualité. In many aspects, Samson is nostalgic for a world where passions are not subject to law, norms and judgement. It is no coincidence that desire is less and less in evidence when it leaves the Brazilian space. In the Brazilian trilogy, but also in La maison des pluies (2013) and L’œil de cuivre (2015) the same themes return with force and the informed reader cannot fail to notice the insistence with which Samson uses water as an element capable of framing the representation of desire. Rivers, ponds, natural pools abound in the Brazilian trilogy: immersed in water, the characters do not impede their desires. In La maison des pluies and L’œil de cuivre, water is present in the form of rain, sweet and melancholic. In my paper I would like to explore this cartography of desire and this natural element with multiple functions; to do so I will use Gaston Bachelard’s study, L’eau et les rêves, on the one hand, and Dosse’s recently published study Les vérités du roman on the other.
