Between Poetic Reason and Philosophical Reason On the Relationship Between Poetry and Philosophy

    No full text
The comparison between the meaning expressed by poetry and philosophy is understandable only in light of the fact that the two disciplines originate from a different structure of consciousness: that of the poet and that of the philosopher, who, while sharing the use of words and the modes of thought (rational and intuitive), organize it, in the specific disciplines, in a different way. However, poetry and philosophy also share something deeper that emerges from the heart of the analogy: the archetype, an immanent a priori structure, which underlies the dynamics of being, which cannot be rationalized and represented except through symbols. Investigated by psychology and philosophy as a pre-categorical structure, it takes on different names. As Vico suggests, it is present in symbolic form in myths and fairy tales as archaic sapiential knowledge. In philosophy, archetypes have been particularly valued by Hegel, among the best known, that assumed by the master-servant symbol. But both science and philosophy, in the search for truth and authenticity, cannot ignore such profound essences that are momentarily rationalized in the becoming, in the succession of theories and their re-elaborations. Poetry, on the other hand, does not try to explain the archetypes, but makes them live by involving the subject through multiple levels of consciousness, sensorial and conceptual, united in the unifying emotion of the same structure, perceived as a particular rhythmic and musical sense

The Mattarella murder: matrices and convergences. A dialogue between historiography and legal science to narrate the complexity of political crimes in Sicily

    No full text
This article examines the circumstances and dynamics of the assassination of Piersanti Mattarella, President of the Sicilian Regional Government, who was killed in Palermo on 6 January 1980. Adopting a multidisciplinary framework, it juxtaposes classical sources (judicial memoirs, contemporary reportage) with the records of the second criminal trial concerning the masterminds of the Bologna massacre (2 August 1980). The study asks whether the complex nexus of interests underlying the killing should be understood as part of a broad subversive network or—consistent with the recent investigative orientation of the Palermo Public Prosecutor’s Office—reframed within a strictly Mafia context. Preliminary results demonstrate that the chosen interpretive lens shapes not only the historical narrative but also the design of operational countermeasures.

BENTHIC ECOSYSTEM VARIATIONS ALONG THE MIDDLE EOCENE PROVENÇAL DROWNING RAMP

    No full text
High-resolution lithology, fossil content, ichnofabrics, and spectral gamma-ray emissions are studied in the Capo Mortola section in the Liguria region (NW Italy), correlating it with other sections in the same area during the middle Eocene (Bartonian). The succession unconformably overlies Upper Cretaceous open-marine deposits and records a deepening trend on a carbonate ramp during the middle Eocene. Six different microfacies have been recognized along the section, recording the variation in fossil content, especially in the larger benthic foraminiferal assemblages, and the lithology, which indicate a deepening trend in the succession. The variation in Th/U ratios allows for differentiation of oxidizing, normal, and reducing conditions throughout the succession. The increase in the concentration of Th and K suggests periods of increased terrigenous material, which was supplied by a fluvial system close to the studied section. In turn, the Th/K ratio shows an alternation between smectite and kaolinite, which are respectively associated with warm-humid and seasonal humid/dry climates. The upper part of the section shows the incipient drowning of the ramp and differs from nearby studied sections in biotic components, lithology, and depth of the basin related to the specific paleogeographic settings of each portion of the ramp. We were able to identify sectors more prone to seafloor instabilities due to their proximity to the shoreline and the deltaic influence, whereas others were located considerably deeper or farther out with respect to the input of deltaic sediments

Bolsonaro, Kast e Milei: un “nuovo populismo” in America Latina?

    No full text
Bolsonaro, Kast and Milei: a “new populism” in Latin America? In recent years, Latin America has witnessed the emergence of seemingly “new” political phenomena. This refers to Jair M. Bolsonaro in Brazil, José Antonio Kast in Chile, and Javier G. Milei in Argentina, who have become central figures in the region. This essay aims to analyze the evolution of the political cultures of these leaders through the lens of populism. By focusing on these three cases in particular, the paper aims to understand the ways in which a further hybridization –and thus transformation– of populism is taking shape in Latin America. Starting from the study of the practices and political discourse of these leaders, this essay seeks to contribute an additional perspective to populism studies, moving beyond the traditional right vs. left dichotomy.

The German Federal Republic and the Defence of Democracy (wehrhafte Demokratie) between the Rise of the Far right and the Crisis of the Traditional Parties This paper examines the threats to democracy in the Federal Republic of Germany in light of the rise of the far-right (AfD) and the crisis of traditional parties. Through the lens of wehrhafte Demokratie (militant democracy), it explores the constitutional (Arts. 18, 21, 79.3 GG) and institutional (Federal Constitutional Court, Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution) mechanisms designed to safeguard the democratic order. The article reflects on the delicate balance between defending democracy and respecting political pluralism, highlighting tensions caused by the political exclusion of AfD in a context of growing fragmentation and polarization. The central challenge, the author argues, is to protect democracy without betraying its founding principles

Survival and Polysemy of an Image: the Deer Hunt in Epic-Chivalric Poems

    No full text
This contribution aims to investigate the diverse uses of imagery within the epic-chivalric genre. Through close textual analysis, it is evident that the employment of zoological similes related to deer hunting can be categorized into two distinct areas. In the erotic sphere, this topos is often associated with female figures, embodying either the wounded lover or the fleeing beloved pursued by hounds. Conversely, in the military context, the symbol portrays a collective entity (one of the warring armies) as vulnerable prey, depicted as a doe fleeing from a lion (the enemy leader) who has slain its cubs. This study demonstrates not only the presence of recurring thematic and symbolic patterns within the genre but also the often problematic interplay between the two key elements of 16th-century epic-chivalric poems: arms and love

Living in Exile: the Experience of Philosophy: Origin, Departure and Development

    No full text
The purpose of this article is to examine the exile of philosophy’s original, more poetic dimension. The central thesis is that philosophy, which was born from poetic roots, has gradually distanced itself from them, forgetting this foundational aspect and embracing only its scientific, methodical, and systematic form as legitimate. This work will therefore explore the reasons behind the marginalization of poetic philosophy and argue for its recovery. The purpose of this article is to examine the exile of philosophy’s original, more poetic dimension. Distributed Lag Non-Linear Models for the impact of heat waves on elderly people living in the regions of central-eastern Italy

    No full text
Background: Prolonged periods of extreme heat, usually referred to as heat waves, have a significant impact on health, especially in the most vulnerable populations. In the present study, we investigated the effect of heat waves on mortality in the elderly population living in the regions of central-eastern Italy. Methods: We considered 10 cities located between the Marche and Abruzzo regions during the period 2011-2021. The association between heat waves and mortality risk was analysed for each city using nonlinear distributed lag temperature and humidity functions, a method that accounts for nonlinear lagged effects, including the short- and medium-term harvest effect. We then performed a multivariate meta-analysis on all cities to jointly synthesise multiple results on mortality risk during heat waves, taking into account their correlation. Results: In the first days after the heat wave, the relative risk (RR) tends to increase, then decreases with a lag of about 4 days and then stabilises around the reference value (RR = 1), with a slight increase around day 21-22. Conclusion: The study shows a significant increase in risk in the presence or after the occurrence of a heat wave. The heterogeneous behaviour of some cities (e.g. San Benedetto del Tronto) could be due to other factors (e.g. pollution) that need to be investigated. The aggregate analysis allows a more robust estimate of the overall effect, reducing the uncertainty arising from individual local analyses
