    Maternal age and number of children are associated with the incidence of a double burden of malnutrition at the household level in rural and urban areas in IndonesiaBackground:  Double burden of malnutrition is a nutritional problem where two nutritional problems occur at the same time and this can happen at the household level. The diversity of community characteristics causes differences in the incidence of the double burden of malnutrition at the household level in people living in rural and urban areas in Indonesia.Objective: To determine the associated factors with the incidence of double burden malnutrition at the household level in rural and urban areas in Indonesia.Methods: This study with a cross-sectional design used secondary data from the fifth wave of the Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS). The sample in this study was 6,468 households. The double burden of malnutrition at the household level is defined as a household in which there is at least one pair of mother and child aged 2-18 years that has underweight and or overweight/obese. Maternal factors, household economic status, number of children, and regional area are independent variables in this study. A logistic regression test was used to perform statistical analysis.Results: The prevalence of double burden malnutrition at the household level in urban areas was higher than in rural areas (8.70%) and 7.77%). Factors that were significantly (p<0.05) associated with the incidence of double burden malnutrition at the household level in rural areas were maternal age, mother's education, economic level, number of children, and regional living of the household, while in urban areas were maternal age and number of children.Conclusions: Maternal age and the number of children are two significant factors associated with the incidence of double burden malnutrition at the household level in rural and urban areas in Indonesia

    Effect of digital food ordering system on timeliness of feeding and patient satisfactionBackground: Computer-based information systems simplify food ordering, speed up the calculation of order data, and reduce operational costs for patient food ordering processes to reduce the time lag between ordering food and serving it to consumers. Only a few studies have examined the effect of digital food ordering applications on feeding accuracy and patient satisfaction.Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between the digital food ordering system and the timeliness of feeding, and the relationship between timeliness of feeding, taste, menu variety, staff appearance, and food service with patient satisfaction.Methods: This study uses a mixed design design with a parallel concurrent mixed method. Quantitative research uses the one-group pretest-posttest pre-experimental design without a control group design and qualitative research uses the social constructivism–interpretation paradigm. The research was conducted in July 2022 at the Bayu Asih Hospital in Purwakarta. The study population consisted of 91 inpatients using a sampling technique, namely total sampling, while the number of samples for qualitative data was five persons using purposive sampling. Bivariate analysis used the Wilcoxon and Chi-Square tests, while the qualitative analysis used a deductive approach.Results: The average time for serving food with manual ordering tends to be greater, namely 181.5 seconds, which decreases to 156.62 seconds after using a digital food ordering system. Most of patients (73.6%) were satisfied with the timeliness of feeding, the taste of the food provided, the varied menu, and the neat appearance of the servers. The results of the analysis showed a significant relationship between the timeliness of food serving (p=0.006); food taste (p=0.001); menu variety (p=0.001); and the appearance of the waitress (p=0.001) with patient satisfaction.Conclusion: The timeliness of feeding increases after using a digital food ordering system. Timeliness of feeding, food taste, variety of food menus, appearance of food serving staff, and food service are significantly related to patient satisfaction

    Tri-ponderal mass index and body mass index for estimating body fat in children in Surakarta, Indonesia

    Background: The body mass index parameter is currently used to determine obesity (excess body fat) in children. Using this measure has limitations in predicting body fat, particularly in adolescents. An alternative parameter to predict body fat is the tri-ponderal mass index (TMI).Objective: The study aims to investigate the different patterns between body mass index and triponderal mass index in children and to determine the correlation of body mass index (BMI) or TMI as a predictor of body fat.Methods: This cross-sectional study of 351 subjects aged 6-18 in Surakarta (241 females; 110 males). All subjects underwent anthropometric measurements (height and weight) and body fat percentage measurements. We used equations for predicting the percent body fat in boys and girls based on their TMI and BMI.Results: TMI and BMI overall means were 13.3±2.9 vs 20.2±4.7. Among subjects less and more than 12 years, the TMI and BMI means were 13.3±2.1 vs 17.9±3.6. and 13.3±3.1 vs 20.7±4.8. The adjusted R2 of equations for predicting percent body fat based TMI and BMI were 0.76 vs 0.33 in boys and 0.89 vs 0.87 in girls).Conclusions: TMI showed greater stability with age than BMI. TMI was a better predictor for body fat percentage than BMI for both sexes, especially in boys. It is worth considering replacing body mass index with triponderal mass index to estimate body fat percentage in boys

    Dietitians’ perception of the implementation of the nutrition care process (NCP) in IndonesiaBackground: The nutrition care process (NCP) developed by The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics was adopted and implemented in Indonesia. Some hospitals in Indonesia do not have a proper facility to support dietitians to implement NCP optimally.Objective: To evaluate dietitians’ perception of the NCP implementation in hospital settings in Indonesia.Methods: This study was a cross-sectional design with dietitians who have been working in a hospital as the study subject. Data were collected by questionnaire. Each subject answered questions on general data, nutrition screening practice, and 20 questions about the NCP implementation. The perception score is ranged from one(1) for ‘strongly disagree’ to five(5) for ‘strongly agree.’ The score was summarized and categorized into two groups ‘good’ and ‘less’ positive perception. Univariate and bivariate analysis was used to evaluate the data statistically. Results: More than half of the participants have a good/positive perception of NCP implementation (62.5%). There was a significant association between the level of education and nutrition screening training to other health workers' perceptions statistically. Conclusion: NCP has been implemented very well in a hospital setting in Indonesia. There are improvements needed in some key aspects to improve the quality of the nutrition care process in the hospital, especially for each dietitian to have a better and more standardized perception nationally on implementing NCP

    Optimization of organoleptic, glycemic index, and a load of enteral formula based on tempe and jicama flourBackground: Tempeh and jicama have the potential effect as hypoglycemic agents. Hyperglycemic patients are recommended to consume formula with a low glycemic index to control blood glucose levels properly. Although balancing and roasting could improve the aromas of tempeh flour, research is lacking on tempeh powder-based enteral formula.Objective: This study aimed to analyze the organoleptic, glycemic index, and glycemic load of enteral formulas based on tempeh and jicama flour to meet the requirements of enteral formulas for hyperglycemic patients.Methods: Experimental research with 3 levels of treatment, namely variations in the ratio of tempeh flour and jicama flour with formulas 1 (1:1); 2 (3:2); and 3 (4:7) with two methods, namely steam blanching and roasting before tempeh drying. An organoleptic test using a hedonic test was carried out on 25 semi-trained panelists. One-shot case study glycemic index and glycemic load test on 30 subjects met the inclusion criteria. Data analysis used the Kruskal-Wallis test.Results: The color, aroma, and taste in formula 3 were acceptable to the panelists, but the texture was less favorable. Formula 3 has a glycemic index of 55.20 and a glycemic load of 14.90. There was no difference in an index and glycemic load in the 3 enteral formulas.Conclusion: Formula 3, with a ratio of 4:7, a moderate glycemic index, and load, could be acceptable to the panelists

    Blood level 25(OH)D3 in obese peopleBackground: Currently, obesity is a world problem, even the World Health Organization (WHO) declared obesity to be a global epidemic and contributes 5% of global deaths in 2015. Recently, many studies have reported an association between vitamin D levels and the incidence of obesity, although the exact mechanism raises many questions.  Objective: This study is to examine the correlation between levels of 25(OH)D3 and body mass index (BMI).Methods: The design of this research is an analytic survey with a case control approach. The population of this study was all students of the Faculty of Medicine, Malahayati University, Bandar Lampung. The number of samples in this study were 60 samples with details of 30 case samples (obesity) and 30 control samples (no obesity). The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The data used are primary data from direct measurement results. The data were analyzed using the correlation test.Results: The results showed that only one sample had normal 25(OH)D3 levels, while most (more than 98%) had low and very low levels of 25(OH)D3. The correlation test showed that there was a significant relationship between 25(OH)D3 levels with BMI (p=0.008; r= -0.0338), gender (p=0.001; r= -0.457), and total cholesterol levels (p=0.009); r= -0,391).Conclusions: There is a relationship between levels of 25(OH)D3 with BMI, the lower the 25(OH)3 blood level, the higher the risk of increasing BMI. Further research is still needed to ensure that giving vitamin D to obese populations can reduce body weight or BMI

    Effect of intermittent fasting 5:2 on plasma malondialdehyde levels in adult male employees with obesityBackground: Obesity is a major risk factor for various non-communicable diseases such as type 2 diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease. In obesity, the free radical product will be produced, such as malondialdehyde (MDA) which plays a role in the pathogenesis of various diseases. Intermittent fasting (IF) is an alternative way to reduce free radical levels in the body therefore it can prevent complications of obesity. However, the effect of IF on MDA level in an obese adult male in Jakarta has not been reported.Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the effect of IF on malondialdehyde levels in adult male employees with obesity in Jakarta.Methods: This study used a randomized controlled clinical trial. The subjects were men aged 19-59 years with a body mass index (BMI) ≥ 25 kg/m2, divided into fasting and control groups, each group consists of 25 subjects. Intermittent fasting 5:2 is calorie restriction up to 20-25% was done every Monday and Thursday, and not allowed to eat and drink during 14 hours of fasting. Before the intervention, both groups were given education about balanced nutrition. Association of intermittent fasting with MDA and catalase was analyzed by means of difference formula with a significance limit of 5%.Results: MDA levels post-intervention significantly decreased compared to the pre-intervention both in the fasting group [1,3(0,9-2) nmol/mL to 0,4(0,3-0,6) nmol/mL] and in the control groups [1,4(0,9-1,9) nmol/mL to 0,5(0,3-0,7) nmol/mL]. MDA level post-intervention in the fasting group was significantly lower (p<0,05) compared to the control group.Conclusions: Intermittent fasting 5:2 during 8 weeks can decrease MDA levels in adult males with obesity in Jakarta

    The effect of Korean wave on body image and eating disorders among female adolescents in Yogyakarta, Indonesia

    Background: Currently, Indonesia is one of the countries affected by the Korean "fever" due to the Korean wave's globalization through the media. The content of K-pop which displays model characteristics that are identical to a slender body, tall, and attractive, can lead to adolescent body image perception. The problem most often experienced by adolescents is physical appearance. The negative body image in adolescence could encourage the emergence of eating behavior disorders known as eating disorders. Objective: To analyze the relation between Korean wave exposure through media information with body image and eating disorders risk in female high school students in Yogyakarta. Methods: This research used the cross-sectional method with a quantitative approach. The research population was female first-grade high school students in Yogyakarta. The subjects of 109 female students who are qualified with the inclusion criteria: enrolled students in the selected schools, physically healthy, and willing to take part in the research; are requested to fill out the Korean wave exposure questionnaire to measure the type and frequency of exposure, the Contour Drawing Rating Scale questionnaire to measure the body image, and the Eating Attitude Test 26 to determine the eating disorders risk. Data were analyzed with the Chi-Square test and logistic regression test. Results: Univariate analysis showed that 11% of the subject was exposed to Korean wave with various type of exposure, 88.1% of the issue was dissatisfied with their body and developed negative body image, and 47.7% of the issue was at risk of eating disorders; 53% of them tend to developed diet behavior, 21.04% bulimia, and 25.96% was in oral intake restriction. The multivariate analysis showed that Korean wave exposure (RP=1.6; 95%CI=0.7-10.04) correlates significantly with negative body image perception. Eating disorders risk significantly affected by Korean wave exposure (RP=2.1; 95%CI=0.97-4.63) and body image (RP=2.93; 95%CI=1.25-5.49). Chi-Square analysis showed body image significantly correlates with eating disorders risk (RP=6.2; 95%CI=1.25-5.94). Conclusions: Exposure to Korean waves affected negative body image in female adolescents.     Factors associated with food choice motives of adolescents in Yogyakarta Special District

    Background: Adolescents begin to have eating autonomy which causes changes in behavior and habits related to food selection. Various factors are considered to be able to influence food choice motives. Objective: The study aimed to determine factors related to adolescents' food choice motives. Methods: A cross-sectional study involving 121 students who studied at two state Junior High schools in Yogyakarta Special District (YSD) from April to May 2020. The independent variables are gender, perception of body image, nutritional knowledge, peer influence, school location, amount of pocket money, family income, parental education, and media influence. The dependent variables are nine food choice motives. Data collection was used online questionnaires via an online form. The data were analyzed by using multiple linear regression. Results: Most respondents had health motive as their primary motive in food choice, followed by natural content, price, and ethical concern. This research also found that there was a relationship between nutritional knowledge with a natural content motive; media influence, nutritional knowledge, and amount of pocket money with ethical concern motive; parental education with price motive; perception of body image, media influence, amount of pocket money, and nutritional knowledge with weight control motive (p<0,05). Conclusions: Perception of body image, nutritional knowledge, media influence, amount of pocket money, and parental education were related to the food choice motives of adolescents.     Changes in anthropometry, blood calcium, blood pressure, and physical fitness due to goat's milk intake in athletesBackground: The intake of healthy-balanced nutrition is needed by athletes. The complex nutritional content of goat milk such as protein, fat, carbohydrate, vitamin, and mineral acts as sports nutrition during and after training. Objective: This study aims to analyze the effects of goat milk on physical fitness, anthropometrics, blood calcium, and blood pressure in athletes. Methods: A clinical trial was conducted using healthy human subjects. Subjects were runners (n=10 people) as the control group and gymnasts (n=19 people) as the treatment group, male, age 21-27 years, and healthy. Bodyweight (BW), Height, and Body Mass Index (BMI), blood calcium, Systolic Blood Pressure (SBP), Diastolic Blood Pressure (DBP), and physical fitness were examined two times, before and after consuming goat milk. Intervention: fresh goat milk, 250 mg/day (after dinner), and given for 90 days. Data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test. Results: There was no difference between BW (p=0.07), BMI (p=0.08), and DBP (p=0.24), but instead there was a significant difference in SBP (p=0.00) before and after goat milk intervention in the experimental group. Blood calcium was significantly increased (p=0.00) in the intervention group, whereas reverse decreased significantly (p=0.02) in controls. A significant difference before and after therapy was found in speed (p=0.00), arm muscle endurance (p=0.01), an-aerobic endurance (p=0.00), agility (p=0.02), however, there was no significant difference between leg muscle power (p=0.13), flexibility (p=0.23), an endurance of abdominal muscles (p=0.26), VO2 max (p=1.15) in the intervention group. Conclusions: Regular consumption of goat milk can reduce SBP, increase blood calcium levels, and improve physical fitness (speed, arm muscle endurance, anaerobic endurance, and agility) in athletes. Goat milk is an essential role in sports nutrition for physical fitness and athlete's health
