    Kadar nitric oxide serum berhubungan dengan tekanan darah pada dewasa muda dengan obesitas sentral: studi pertama di Indonesia

    Serum nitric oxide levels are associated with blood pressure in young adults with central obesityBackground: Central obesity is a risk factor for hypertension, which is closely related to the presence of endothelial dysfunction and associated with levels of nitric oxide (NO). Objective: This research was conducted to determine the relationship between NO and blood pressure (BP) in young adults with and without central obesity and also to compare the NO levels and BP between the two groups. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Pekanbaru, Riau, Indonesia, with 80 young adult subjects aged 18-25 years by consecutive sampling, consisting of 40 subjects with central obesity (waist circumference (WC) ≥90 cm and ≥80 cm for men and women, respectively) and 40 subjects without central obesity (WC <90 cm and < 80 cm for men and women, respectively). Blood pressure was measured using a digital sphygmomanometer, and NO levels were measured using Griess methods. The statistical analysis begins with the normality test of the data, normal data was analyzed with the Pearson correlation test, and abnormal data was analyzed with the Spearman test. Differences in the levels of NO, systolic blood pressure (TDS), and diastolic blood pressure (TDD) between groups was analyzed with the Mann-Whitney-U test.Results: Most of the subjects had high NO levels (66.3%). NO levels had a positively significant relationship with systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) in total subjects (r = 0.503, p <0.05; r= 0.289, p<0.05, respectively) and with SBP in subjects with central obesity (r = 0.324, p <0.05) but there was no significant relationship in normal subjects. There is a significant difference between serum NO levels, SBP, and DBP between subjects with central obesity and normal subjects (p <0.05).Conclusion: NO levels have a positive significant relationship with SBP and DBP in total subjects and with SBP in young adults with central obesity

    Reason for consumers to buy and consume honey as a health supplementBackground: During the COVID-19 pandemic, people believed honey was a supplement to increase body endurance. Research on consumer perceptions regarding specific health benefits has never been done. The market's production and demand for honey have not balanced, giving rise to the potential for selling fraudulent honey. It is necessary to identify the public perception regarding the health benefits of honey using one of the determinants of the theory of planned behavior and consumer knowledge regarding labels on honey products. Objective: This research was conducted to determine the factors related to consumer behavior in buying and consuming honey as a health supplement. Methods: Quantitative research using a cross-sectional survey design. Online data collection was done by distributing questionnaire links through social media in October-November 2021 in various regions of Indonesia. A total of 426 research subjects were selected using the accidental sampling technique. The data were analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. Results: Consumer knowledge about honey product labels is categorized as sufficient (48.13%) and less (44.12%). Gender and education were significantly related to the purchase of honey (p=0.0308; p=0.0101), and gender was associated with consumption behavior (p=0.0086). Perception of overall and specific health benefits (improves immunity, diabetes, cancer, heart, cough, and asthma, accelerates healing after illness, reduces the frequency of diarrhea, lower blood pressure, lower levels of fat and cholesterol in the body) were significantly related to the behavior of buying and consuming honey (p=0.0001). Knowledge is significantly related to honey consumption behavior (p=0.0363). Conclusion: Honey buying and consumption behavior in Indonesia is related to consumer perceptions of overall and specific health benefits. It is necessary to review honey labels currently on the market and increase consumer knowledge about honey product labels

    The difference in physical activity and sedentary behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic in medical and non-medical students at Diponegoro University

    Background: University students are already known as a population at high risk for inactive behavior, and the COVID-19 pandemic can increase this risk. Objective: This research was conducted to analyze differences in physical activity and sedentary behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic in medical and non-medical students at Diponegoro University and analyze factors correlated to physical activity and sedentary behavior. Methods: This was an observational research with a cross-sectional design in two groups conducted online. The subjects were students of Diponegoro University, as many as 102 subjects (51 medical students and 51 non-medical students aged 18-22 years). The research was conducted from September to November 2021. The selection was by quota sampling technique. Data were collected by filling out Google forms and an interview. The dependent variables are physical activity and sedentary behavior, measured by the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Long Form (IPAQ-LF) and the Adolescent Sedentary Activity Questionnaire (ASAQ). Data were analyzed by the Mann-Whitney test and Spearman's correlation test.Results: Physical activity during the COVID-19 pandemic between medical and non-medical students did not differ significantly (p=0.497). There was no significant difference in physical activity related to work/college, transport, house chores, and recreation (p>0.05). Meanwhile, overall sedentary behavior was not significantly different (p=0.290), as well as sedentary behavior on weekdays and weekends (p>0.05). The level of motivation was significantly correlated with physical activity in medical (p=0.027) and non-medical students (p=0.042).Conclusion: Medical and non-medical students have no differences in physical activity and sedentary behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic. The level of motivation was positively correlated to physical activity in medical and non-medical students

    Consumption pattern, sugar intake, and nutritional status of women aged 35-55 years in Batur Village, Getasan DistrictBackground: According to the Individual Food Consumption Survey of Central Java Province, residents consume an average of 22.9 grams of food from sugar, syrup, and confectionary groups daily, with sugar alone accounting for 20.2 grams. Sweet foods and beverages like sweet tea, tofu, and tempeh are commonly consumed in Central Java. Objective: The study assesses consumption patterns, sugar intake, and nutritional status (including anthropometric measurements, blood sugar levels, fasting blood sugar levels, uric acid levels, and blood pressure) of native Javanese women aged 35-55 in Batur, Getasan. Method: This quantitative research uses a descriptive approach with a sample of 106 women: 48 from Krangkeng village (lower), 22 from Kalitengah village (middle), and 36 from Tekelan village (upper). Research tools include SQ-FFQ, 24-hour food recall, anthropometric measurements, and biochemical and clinical examinations. Results: Food consumption frequency and quantity are highest in Krangkeng village. The average daily sugar consumption per person across all villages is 21.46±10.19 grams, equivalent to an average household purchase of 3,359.43±1,509.13 grams per month (about 3 kg per month per family). Types of sugar consumed include glucose (106.98±30.64 g/day), fructose (5.64±7.99 g/day), sucrose (102.18±23.75 g/day), and lactose (1.98±8.38 g/day). Average measurements for BMI, blood sugar, fasting blood sugar, uric acid, and blood pressure fall within normal ranges for women of this age group. Conclusion: Krangkeng village shows higher food consumption rates, likely due to more access to food supplies. Average daily sugar consumption remains below recommended levels (25 g/day). Overall, the women surveyed's nutritional status, biochemical, and clinical profiles are generally within normal range

    Predictors of pediatric hospital acquired malnutrition in a Sardjito HospitalBackground: In hospitalized children, nutrition is essential for the healing process as well as for reaching adequate growth. Hospital-acquired malnutrition (HAM) is declining in children’s body weight during hospitalization. The impact of undetected HAM including an increase in length of stay, increase in mortality, slowing of healing process, and increasing in hospital bills.Objectives: This study aims to determine the predictive factors of HAM.Method: A prospective study was performed. Samples were 1-month-old – 18-years-old children who hospitalized in pediatric ward of Sardjito Hospital in Yogyakarta from February 2023 to April 2023. Samples were taken using a consecutive sampling method. The relationship between variables was presented as odds ratio (OR), confidence intervals of 95%, the score for each variable, and statistical significance levels p < 0.05.Results: 21 of 196 patients were diagnosed as HAM, with a male-to-female ratio of 1.1: 1. The prevalence of HAM was 10.9%. Bivariate analysis showed that maternal education (OR=2.27; CI 95% 1.02 – 5.05; p=0.041), comorbid of congenital heart disease (CHD) (RR=3.31; CI 95% 1.30 – 8.42; p=0,037), and 3rd degree of severity disease (RR=6.00; CI 95% 2.87 – 12.56; p=0.001) was significantly related to HAM. Multivariate analysis showed that comorbid of CHD (OR=5.33; CI 95% 1.34 – 20.7; p=0.017) and 3rd degree of severity disease (OR=11.54; CI 95% 3.52 – 37.86; p=0.000) increased the odds of developing of HAM.Conclusion: Comorbid of CHD and 3rd degree of severity disease increased the odds of developing HAM during hospitalization

    My fluid diary as an alternative tool for daily recording fluid intake: cross over study among adolescent girlsBackground: Water plays a vital role in the human body. The respondents found the fluid intake record using paper-based excessively burdensome, so a smartphone-based application was developed as a drink intake recording tool.Objective: Assessing the validity of My Fluid Diary as a fluid intake recording tool using 7-day records as a reference method.Methods:  A crossover study was conducted involving 38 female students of SMKN 1 Banyumas. Total water intake was recorded for seven days for each method (smartphone-based and paper-based), with 14 days washout period between the two methods. To determine the difference in water intake between the two methods, the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test was used; Bland-Altman plots and linear regression tests were used to determine the agreement between the two methods; and the Spearman test was used to determine the relationship between water intake and hydration status.Results: Water intake was significantly higher with smartphone application-based recording than with paper-based recording (1008.3 (421.3 – 2363) and 763.2 (435 – 1875.5); p 0.0001), with agreement limit of 1, 11 – 3.00 and ß -value (0.296) p-value 0.05 in the regression test, indicating no fixed bias. The findings of recording water intake and hydration status were significantly correlated with the two methods (p-value<0,05). The Spearman correlation value shows a negative number in both ways with sufficient correlation strength (0.03 – 0.05).Conclusion:  My Fluid Diary smartphone application could be used as an alternate tool for recording fluid intake based on the agreement and hydration status that has been studied. Further research is expected to involve more respondents

    The differences in energy and macronutrient intake based on risk of chronic energy deficiency for pregnant womenBackground: Pregnancy is an essential period in forming the quality of human resources that requires adequate intake of energy and macronutrients for development and growth in the fetus and maintaining nutritional status in pregnant women.Objective: The study aims to determine the differences in energy and macronutrient intake based on chronic energy deficiency (CED), a condition characterized by long-term inadequate energy intake, among pregnant women in Bengkulu Province.Method: This research was used in a cross-sectional research design. The number of samples was 1,167 respondents, taken using total sampling techniques and conducted in Bengkulu Province. The data used secondary data from the Republic of Indonesia's Ministry of Health Survey in 2016. Data analysis in the study used the Mann-Whitney test and multiple logistic regression.Results: The results of this research show the average intake of energy, protein, fat, and carbohydrates in respondents who are at risk of CED respectively are 1,478±48 kcal; 53±2 g; 30±2 g; 24±9 g; and for the average intake of respondents who are not the risk of CED respectively are1,647±18 kcal; 58±1 g; 34±1 g; 262±3 g. The results showed that there was a difference between energy intake (p=0.013), protein (p=0.035), and carbohydrate (p=0.035) based on the incidence of CED risk in pregnant women.Conclusion: Based on the dietary intake analysis of pregnant women, there were differences between the risk of CED and those not at risk of CED. Therefore, pregnant who risk CED must be given a balanced diet (energy and macronutrients) to improve their nutritional status during pregnancy

    Effect of consuming arrowroot cookies containing glucomannan porang as a snack on total cholesterol levels of people with type 2 diabetesBackground: People with type 2 diabetes (T2D) have a risk of dyslipidemia, which is an increase in total cholesterol levels. Dietary fiber is known to have health benefits for improving lipid profiles. Arrowroot cookies containing glucomannan porang is a snack with high dietary fiber content.Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of consuming arrowroot cookies as a snack for 8 weeks on the total cholesterol levels of people with type 2 diabetes.Methods: This study is a quasi-experimental study with a pre-test post-test design with control group. Subjects are type 2 diabetes patients who are registered in four Yogyakarta City Health Centers. The intervention group was given five arrowroot cookies (65 grams) as a substitute snack for 8 weeks. Arrowroot cookies contain 0.57% soluble fiber and 15.80% insoluble fiber. Fasting total cholesterol levels, nutrient intake, anthropometry, and physical activity were measured twice, at pre- (week 0) and post-intervention (8th week).Results: The average total cholesterol levels of the control group and intervention group changed with no significant difference between the two study groups. The intervention group experienced a significant increase in total cholesterol levels (p<0.05) from 182.36 mg/dL to 202.55 mg/dL. There were no significant changes in anthropometric and physical activity. There was an increase in fiber intake in both groups but it was not significant for the intervention group (p=0.051).Conclusion: There was a significant change in the total cholesterol level of people with type 2 diabetes after consuming arrowroot cookies containing glucomannan porang as a snack for 8 weeks

    Body mass index correlation with triglyceride and high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol ratio of reproductive age women with obesityBackground: Obesity in women of reproductive age is thought to be one of the triggers of coronary heart disease. Body mass index (BMI) correlates well with the percentage of body fat, which is a strong indicator of coronary heart disease. Accumulation of visceral adipocytes releases excess free fatty acids, resulting in increased triglyceride synthesis. Furthermore, in a state of hypertriglyceridemia, there is a decrease in HDL levels and an increase in HDL catabolism resulting in decreased HDL levels. Examination of the ratio of triglyceride levels and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (TG/HDL-C) is a strong indicator of cardiovascular disease.Objective: The aim of his study was to investigate the correlation between BMI and TG/HDL-C ratio in women of reproductive age.Methods: Using an analytical approach with a cross-sectional design. Furthermore, height and weight were measured with Smic ZT 120. At the same time as this examination, venous blood was taken from the median cubital area to be used to check the level of triglycerides and HDL-C in the serum. TG examination with GPO-PAP and HDL-C direct method. The bivariate analysis uses the Spearman Rank correlation test, while the multivariate analysis uses the linear regression test.Results: TG levels were 106 (34-363) mg/dl, HDL-C levels were 48.19 ± 9.91 mg/dl, and the ratio between the two was 2.26 (0.52-9.58). Spearman Rank analysis obtained the value of r was 0.573, p-value 0.0001.Conclusions:  There is a significant positive correlation between BMI and the ratio of TG/HDL-C levels in adult women of reproductive age with obesity

    Macronutrient intake and adherence to antidiabetic drugs on HbA1c levels in type 2 diabetes mellitusBackground: Diabetes mellitus is a disease whose prevalence continues to increase worldwide, including in Indonesia, due to lifestyle changes; DI Yogyakarta Province has the 2nd highest prevalence in Indonesia, and Sleman Regency is the largest. In the current era, the increasing number of diabetes mellitus and uncontrolled blood sugar levels or HbA1c levels are closely related to lifestyle changes, unhealthy eating patterns, and non-regularly taking medicine. Therefore, controlling blood sugar levels is vital in treating type 2 diabetes mellitus.Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between macronutrient intake and antidiabetic medication adherence on HbA1c levels in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus.Methods: A cross-sectional survey of 78 respondents using purposive sampling by filling out the SQ-FFQ and MMAS-8 questionnaires. The analysis used the Chi-Square test and logistic regression test.Results: There was a significant relationship between carbohydrate intake, fat intake, and antidiabetic medication adherence with HbA1c (p0,05). The multivariate test results showed that carbohydrate intake, fat intake, antidiabetic medication adherence, and body mass index were simultaneously associated with HbA1c (p<0,05).Conclusion: Carbohydrate, fat, and antidiabetic medication adherence were significantly associated with HbA1c levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus
