Intervensi biskuit tempe kurma bagi peningkatan status gizi balita penderita tuberkulosis
Background: Weight gain as an indicator of nutritional status during tuberculosis drugs management has a significant relationship with the rapid conversion of sputum smear, low incidence of relapse and duration of anti tuberculosis drugs in patients with tuberculosis. Low intake of food in patient suffering from an infectious disease is caused by the emergence of anorexia, nausea, vomiting, and increased body temperature. Inadequate nutrient intake affects the immune system, lower resistance to infection and slow healing resulting progressive tuberculosis (TB).Objective: To assess the effect of tempeh dates biscuit consumption on the change of nutritional status of tuberculosis preschoolers patients.Method: A quasi-experimental design towards 52 under five children with TB status and who were underweight was done in all sub-districts at Depok City. There were three groups participated in the study i.e tempeh dates biscuits as intervention group, and two groups of control (tempeh and placebo biscuits). The nutritional status of subjects was assessed each biweekly by giving daily 50 grams of biscuits within four weeks. Data analysis was using paired t-test and Anova. Results: There was greatest weight gain in a subject who received tempeh dates biscuit by 0.5 kg and largest height improvement in the tempeh biscuits group by 1.8 cm. Weight, height and z-score weight/age had significant differences in the three groups at the end of the study. There were significant differences in carbohydrate intake in the intervention group at pre and post-intervention. The tempeh biscuits group had different levels of mothers’ knowledge on nutrition and TB at the end of the study. Conclusion: Tempeh dates biscuit can be recommended as an alternative supplementation feeding program for TB and non-TB under five children with underweight status
Status gizi sebagai faktor prognosis penderita karsinoma endometrium
Background: In Indonesia, endometrial cancer is the third gynaecologic cancer after cervical and ovarian cancers. Various factors affect the survival of the patients, however, which factors affect the survival of endometrial carcinoma patients in Dr. Sardjito Hospital remain unclear. A research is therefore needed in order to determine the survival and the prognostic factors. Objective: To investigate the prognostic factors that affect the survival of endometrial carcinoma patients who had been admitted to Dr. Sardjito Hospital.Method: The study design was retrospective cohort. The subjects were patients with endometrial carcinoma who were treated in Dr. Sardjito Hospital from 1st of January 2006 until 31st of December 2011. Kaplan-Meier analysis was performed to analyze several factors that influenced the survival of the patients. The differences of survival were analyzed with log rank test while the prognostic factors influencing the survival were analyzed using Cox regression. Results: 68 endometrial carcinoma patients were recruited as the subjects for the study. The median survival of endometrial carcinoma patients 52 months for those on early stage and 17 months on advanced stage (p≤0.01). The prognostic factors affecting survival that has been found statistically and clinically significant was the stage of the disease (p=0.002; HR=6.175; 95% CI=1.1980 to 19.25). Meanwhile, the nutritional status of patients with low, normal, and high BMIs score showed increased survival rate as indicated by the HR values of 1; 0.768; and 0.311 respectively. Conclusion: The prognostic factor that was clinically and statistically significant influenced the survival was the stage of the disease, while the nutritional status of patients was found clinically significant as the prognostic survival of the patients

Background: Coverage of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia fluctuate and showed a declining trend over the last three years. Coverage of exclusive breastfeeding of Palangka Raya city is still very low at around 23.30%. There are several variables suspected as the cause of the malnutrition problem, the variables are status of breastfeeding, mother's education level, mother's employment, mother’s knowledge of nutrition and counseling status of breastfeeding. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of breastfeeding status on the nutritional status of infants aged 6-12 months in the working area of UPTD Puskesmas Kalampangan Palangka Raya city.Method: The study design used was a case-control with 1:2 ratio, the case are infants aged 6-12 months with low nutritional status, whereas the comparison are infants aged 6-12 months with normal nutritional status. The dependent variable is the nutritional status and the independent variables are breastfeeding status, mother's education level, mother's employment, mother’s knowledge of nutrition, and breastfeeding counseling status. Data analysis was performed by univariate, bivariate (Chi-Square) and multivariate (logistic regression). Results: From the 5 (five) variables were analyzed, 2 (two) variables independently became risk factor for malnutrition are status of breastfeeding (OR=6.667) and the counseling status of breastfeeding (OR=3.215). But together (simultaneously), only breastfeeding status has an influence on the nutritional status of infants, and non-exclusive breastfeeding was significant as a risk factor for malnutrition (OR=5.126). Probability infant to experience malnutrition due to breastfeeding status no exclusive is at 25.54%. Conclusion: Breastfeeding status has an influence on the nutritional status of infants and non-exclusive breastfeeding was significant as a risk factor for malnutrition among infants aged 6-12 months
Penambahan kelapa (Cocos nucifera) dan kacang tolo (Vigna unguiculata) terhadap nilai indeks glikemik singkong (Manihot utilissima)
Backgound: The glycemic index (GI) is a notion that defences the glycaemic potency of foods. Foods with low GI will be digested and turned into glucose gradually and slowly. As a result blood glucose peak will not be so high and its fluctuation relatively in short time. Although cassava is a good source of carbohydrate, it has a high GI and low protein. Its GI factor needs to be reduced by any efforts to make it a healthy alternative food in spite of rice. Objective: To analize the effect of adding coconut and black-eyed pea to the GI factor of cassava.Method: The study used experimental observation design. There were three groups of treatment with 9 persons in each goup. After fasting for 10 hours, blood glucose were tested and 50 g of true glucose were given. Blood glucose of the subjects were tested again after 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes giving true glucose. Next on the seventh day, they were given boiled cassava, cassava with coconut (sawut) and cassava with black-eyed pea (gintul). After which their blood glucose were also tested. Results: GI factor of steam cassava, shredded cassava and shredded cassava with black-eyed pea (gintul) was 100,40; 70,90; and 61,88; respectively. There was a significant difference of GI level between three products (p=0,031). Conclusion: Food processing by adding coconut and black-eyed pea has effect in reducing the GI level of cassava
Pemberian taburia (sprinkle) berpengaruh terhadap lama dan frekuensi diare akut anak
Background: Major causes of mortality in children are diarrhea and pneumonia (25.2% and 15.5%). “Five steps of diarrhea management” is an integrated approach in the management of diarrhea comprising the supplementation of oral rehydration, zinc within 10 days subsequently, breastfeeding and food, selective antibiotics and advice for the mother/family. Zinc supplementation combined with vitamin A and micronutrient on children with the diarrhea had been researchead that result can minimize morbidity, duration and frequency of diarrhea, and the incidence of recurrent diarrhea. Objective: To find out the effect of taburia supplementation (sprinkle) on duration and frequency of diarrhea.Method: The study was randomized controlled trial (RCT) with parallel design. Subject consisted of two groups, the first got therapy of taburia (sprinkle) 1 sachet/day and the second was the control group. Each group got standard diarrhea medication at the health center. Samples consisted of 30 children of 1-5 years old per group and they were obtained by using simple randomization technique. Statistical analysis was performed by using Chi-Square and t-test.Results: Duration of diarrhea of the experiment group was 33.25 ± 18.08 hours (95% CI: 26.49 - 40.00) and the control group was 43.7 ± 19.25 hours (95% CI: 36,50 - 50,89). Frequency of diarrhea of the experiment group was 4.93 ± 3.41 times/day (95% CI: 3,41-3,65) and the control group was 6.33 ± 3.20 times/day (95% CI: 5.13-7.53). The result of statistic test showed that there was effect of taburia supplementation to duration and frequency of diarrhea (p<0.05).Conclusion: Supplementation of taburia (sprinkle) in the standard therapy of diarrhea shortened the duration and minimized the frequency of diarrhea
Pemberian makanan F100 dengan bahan substitusi tepung tempe terhadap status protein pasien anak dengan gizi kurang
Background: Much effort has been made to counter the weaknesses of F100 through the development of milk powder substituted with ingredients that have a high content of protein and energy, high bioavailability and relatively low cost. Objective: To analyze an effect of F100 supplementation using substitute tempeh flour on protein status (total protein serum and serum albumin) among undernourished pediatric patients.Method: Experimental research with randomized clinical control trial among 30 undernourished children consisting of open clinical trial in two experiment groups, supplemented with F100 or substitute F100 (isoenergetic and isoprotein diet) within 14 days. The study was undertaken in April-August 2010 at pediatric inpatient room of Dr. Saiful Anwar Hospital Malang. Data of food intake were obtained through visual Comstock and 24-hour food recall; data of total serum protein through biuret method; serum albumin (Alb) through cellulose acetate electrophoresis method. Data analysis was using Pearson Chi-Square test and unpaired t-test.Results: The result of unpaired t-test on the average intake of energy, protein, fat and carbohydrate showed there was no significant difference in each experimental groups (p>0.05). The test result of total serum protein level and serum Alb level showed there was no significant difference in each experiment (p=0.240 and p=0.774). The result of correlation coefficient test showed there was no significant association between intake of energy and nutrient and total serum level and serum Alb level (p>0.05) and degree of association showed a weak association (r>0.25).Conclusion: Formula of F100 substitute as complementary food could be used as an alternative food in diet therapy of malnourished children on rehabilitation phase

To cover the condition, it is necessary to give nutrition support. Objective: To compare the effect of nutrition counseling and nutrition supplementation with nutrition counseling only towards the nutrition status and nutrition intake of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA).Method: The study was experimental non randomized control group pre-post test design. Subject consisted of two groups i.e. nutrition counseling plus (with nutrition supplementation) and nutrition counseling only. The study was carried out at Dr. Sardjito Hospital from January to March 2012. The sample were taken purposively with inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were analyzed by using paired t-test and linear regression to calculate nutrient intake and nutrition status. Results: The energy intake of nutrition counseling plus group showed significantly higher amount than the group with nutrition counseling only (change of 141.40 kcal vs 15.99 kcal; OR=4.96). Protein intake was insignificantly higher than nutrition counseling (change of 6.28 g vs 5.11 g; OR=1.94), weight were insignificantly lower than nutrition counseling (change of 0.46 kg vs 0.75 kg; OR=1.21), and nutrition status were insignificantly lower than nutrition counseling (changes in body mass index 0.18 kg/m2 vs 0.32 kg/m2; OR=1.25).Conclusion: Nutrition counseling plus could increase energy intake but could not increase protein intake, weight, and body mass index
Perubahan parameter biologik jaringan kanker payudara mencit akibat pemberian isoflavon tempe
Background: Cancer is severe diseases caused by the changing of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) structure. Women who consume soy products have a lower risk for breast cancer, but it cannot be explained the kind of biomolecular aspects of soy product which gives this role. Objective: The aim of this research was to analyze the biological parameter changing of AgNORs, p53, Cas-3 and Bcl-2 in mouse (Mus musculus) C3H strain with breast cancer, as the impact of injecting isoflavone of tempeh.Method: The laboratory experimental research was done by posttest only randomized controlled group design. Subject of study were 18 mice (Mus musculus) C3H strain that were divided into 3 groups, each of which consists of 6 mice. The first group, the control (K), was not injected by isoflavone, while the second group (P1) and the third group (P2) were injected by 1.000 mg and 10.000 mg of tempeh isoflavone/kg diet/day, respectively. All groups were given the transplanted breast cancer cells. AgNORs parameters were selected to determine the level of proliferation and p53 parameters, Cas-3 and Bcl-2 to determine the appearance of apoptosis. Data were analyzed by using Manova and discriminant test for each parameter of cell proliferation. Results: Concentration of isoflavones supplementation with 1,000 and 10,000 mg / kgdiet / day gave effect to the reduction of AgNORs blots, expression of p53 and Cas-3 and increased expression of Bcl-2 in group P1 and P2 compared with control group, as indicated by high statistical values (p=0.000) between both groups or within the group. Results of discriminant test showed that Bcl-2 and AgNORs had dominant role in increased apoptosis and inhibition of cancer cell proliferation in experimental animal. Conclusion: Tempeh isoflavones can be used as a biological parameter change agent that marks the proliferation and apoptosis of mice (Mus musculus) C3H strain towards the normal cell cycle progression
Efek suplementasi vitamin A pada ibu nifas terhadap pertumbuhan bayi umur 0-4 bulan
Background: Vitamin A deficiency is a nutritional problem in infants since breastmilk insufficiently contains vitamin A. Therefore it is necessary to study the effect of vitamin A supplementation to mothers at parturition period on growth and morbidities of infants at 0-4 months of age. Objective: To identify the effect of vitamin A supplementation to mothers at parturition period on growth and morbidities of infants at 0-4 months of age.Method: We conducted a randomized controlled trial from March-July 2009 at Province of Lampung. We recruited 90 mothers that were grouped into vitamin A supplementation group and socialization about vitamin A group during parturition period. The outcomes of this study were growth in WHZ and morbidities of infants at 0-4 months of age measured as duration of acute diarrhea and upper respiratory infections. Statistical analysis was performed by using Chi-Square and t-test.Results: The growth of infants of 0-4 months from vitamin A supplemented mothers was not significantly different from the socialization group. Duration of diarrhea and acute respiratory tract infection of infants from supplemented mothers at parturition period was significantly shorter than of infants from socialization group. Conclusion: The growth of infant at 0-4 months of age from vitamin A supplemented mothers at parturition period were not significantly different from those who were from education group. Duration of diarrhea and acute respiratory tract infection of infants from vitamin A supplemented mothers at parturition period were shorter than those who were from education group
Pelaksanaan proses asuhan gizi terstandar (PAGT) terhadap asupan gizi dan kadar glukosa darah pasien diabetes melitus tipe 2
Background: Food planning is a basis of diabetes mellitus (DM) therapy. Proper diet is essential for effective control of blood glucose level. Diet therapy through the care of nutrition team in a hospital can increase nutrient intake of patients in a hospital. In 2003 the American Diabetes Association recommended a model of standardized nutrition care process (SNCP).Objective: To find out the effect of SNCP implementation to nutrient intake and blood glucose level of DM type 2 inpatients.Method: The study was a quasi-experiment. Nutrient intake variable was measured in post-test and blood glucose level variable was the pre-post test. Samples were divided into two groups; one group was treated with SNCP and the other with conventional nutrition care. The population of the study consisted of all new patients with DM type 2 diagnosis. Samples were those that met inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were analyzed by using t-test.Results: Average nutrient intake was found high in the group with SNCP. Nutrient intake comprised energy intake (97.8%), protein intake (95.1%), fat intake (95.6%), and carbohydrate intake (94.9%). The result of the statistical test showed that nutrient intake (energy, protein, fat, carbohydrate) in SNCP was higher than that of conventional nutrition care. Decreasing blood glucose level before and after SNCP intervention was 109.4 mg/dL whereas in conventional nutrition care was 105.5 mg/dL. Decreasing blood glucose level of DM type 2 in patients with SNCP was higher than those with conventional nutrition care but statistically was not significant. Conclusion: Nutrient intake (energy, protein, fat and carbohydrate) of DM type 2 in the patient with SNCP were higher than those with conventional nutrition care. Decreased blood glucose level of DM type 2 in patients with SNCP was higher than those with conventional nutrition care, which was not statistically significant
