Arabic is the basic foundation in Islam both scientifically and in practice. The reason is, the Qur'an and al-Hadith use Arabic as the medium of delivery. Recently, there has been an expansion of the function of the Arabic language which is brought into the realm of daily communication in order to articulate Islamic identity and mostly occurs in the Muslim community of hijra. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The implementation procedure is to observe the reality of the arabization of the communication of the hijrah Muslim community and its relationship to the articulation of Islamic identity. The method used in analyzing the data is Miles and Huberman's interactive model, namely; data reduction, data presentation, drawing conclusions. While the method used in testing the validity of the data is the method of triangulation and triangulation of sources, peer discussions and member check. The results of this study are: 1) Arabicization of the communication of the hijrah Muslim community is a process of assimilation of Arabic in culture and is used as a symbol in identity politics in a global society. 2) The Arabization of this communication does not touch fundamental aspects of Islam at all, but is only a model of communication.
Interlingual Interference in Multilingual Students: An Optimality Theory Approach
In Indonesia, multilingualism is a common phenomenon, where individuals regularly switch between multiple languages and dialects in their daily communication. Within this multilingual environment, people often learn several words from their second (L2) or third (L3) language alongside their native tongue (L1). This study aims to investigate the primary linguistic features affected by interlingual interference among multilingual learners at IAIN Langsa and how the principles of Optimality Theory can help explain the observed patterns of interlingual interference in the language learning processes of these students, specifically those in the Arabic Education Department. To address these questions, the research focuses on the language spoken by multilingual learners proficient in Acehnese, Bahasa Indonesia, and Arabic at IAIN Langsa. Data collection involved fieldwork, interviews, and recordings, with five students as the research subjects. The study results indicate that interlingual interference has a multifaceted impact on multilingual learners in the Arabic Education Department at IAIN Langsa. The findings demonstrate that Acehnese phonology influences the development of Arabic words. This is evident in how Acehnese-Arabic speakers modify the final phoneme /d/ to /t/ in three words: [a.had] becomes [a.hat], [ah.mad] becomes [ah.mat], and [mau.lid] changes to [mo.lit]. Multilingual learners may transfer pronunciation patterns, intonation, and accent elements from their native languages into the target language, resulting in pronunciation difficulties and challenges in acquiring the phonological system of the target language

Speaking Competence of STMIK STIKOM Indonesia Students Through Video Presentation Project
English at higher education level requires the development of language competence, especially in the development of speaking competence which will be important when it must be applied to communication needs in the industry. To achieve the goal of joining these needs, the use of technology in learning and its evaluation can be one of the determinants of increasing competence. The form of implementation is the assignment of English video presentation which is considered effective in developing competence in the digital and global era as it is today. The stage of creating videos in learning activities can increase student engagement in the lecturing process, increase the effectiveness of the English learning process, stimulate students' creativity and independence, and most importantly foster students' courage to appear and communicate in English. Assessment of the linguistic aspect will help students identify grammatical errors that need to be corrected and improve their verbal skills in English itself. The object of this research is the seventh semester students majoring in Informatics Engineering, STMIK STIKOM Indonesia. The technique of collecting data applied in this research is observation. The data is qualitative data and in the form of English video presentations uploaded by students in the Google Classroom application in the online English class which will be analyzed by using descriptive qualitative methods. The analysis of the linguistic aspect includes pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, content, and comprehension. The data obtained will be classified so that students' English competence, especially speaking, can be identified and can be used as the basis for implementing appropriate teaching methods
Rhetorical Move Analysis of Science and Engineering Abstracts Rejected in a Scopus-Indexed Journal
The role of an appropriate writing of an abstract becomes significantly important as it acts not only as the representative of the whole content of the paper, but also helps journal reviewers to decide whether the article is deemed worthy to be published. While myriad research on rhetorical move analysis of research article abstracts has been conducted, an inadequate amount of them has probed onto rejected research article abstracts, specifically using a cross-disciplinary lens. This study aims to uncover the rhetorical organization and linguistic features of science and sngineering abstracts by utilizing Hyland’s (2000) rhetorical structure. The method of this research is used as the nature of this research rooted from discourse analysis. A total of eighteen rejected abstracts were retrieved from Indonesian Journal of Science and Technology (IJoST). The findings revealed that all of Hyland’s moves were found in both dataset where the move occurrences were identical to one another. However, significant differences existed in step occurrences, particularly in Step 4 of Move 1, Step 1*, 1, and 2 of Move 3, and Step 1 and 2 of Move 5. Engineering studies considered Introduction, Purpose, and Method as obligatory moves, while science studies viewed Purpose as a conventional move of the three. Pattern-wise, science applied two configurations, while engineering used three. Regarding the linguistic features, present tense and active voice were dominant across the disciplines. Furthemore, it was observed that the conventionality of abstract writing had not been properly performed in the rejected abstracts. This research is hoped to provide an insightful source on rejected research article abstracts to future researchers
The Impact of E-learning on Students’ Academic Performance in Indonesian Language Subject
Many universities, including ITB STIKOM Bali, have adopted e-learning platforms. During the pandemic, e-learning usage expanded significantly; following the epidemic, hybrid learning has been made possible (online and offline). Ideology in Noun Phrases: Quran expert says nonmarital sex is allowed in Islam
This research is analysis of noun phrases (NPs) to find the deepest meaning, namely ideological reference that indicates speaker’s interest and purposes. In addition to being based on an integrated approach between analysis of form and function, the study departs from the insights that the statements about language is never only about language, and also it is never merely about statements. The research was conducted as a qualitative descriptive study. Therefore, the substance aspect of data is written language, namely a news report entitled “Quran expert says nonmarital sex is allowed in Islamâ€. The source of data was downloaded from www.thejakartapost.com. The term of population and sampel adheres to the information rich paradigm, so that the population is the entire clauses and the complement of preposition, while the samples are all NPs. The data collection was carried out by observational method, while the data collection technique was handled by reading and taking note. Method and technique of data analysis were operated through a layered model of NP structure that is proposed by Rijkhoff. In addition, NP classification related to ideological reference borrowed the Key Lingual Symbols (KLS) and ideology concepts that are extracted by Sawirman. Based on the analyzing of all data, this research found five key NPs that contain the spirit of discourse and represent the overall message that is conveyed by the author. Moreover, that five key NPs indicate the ideology reference, namely; the institutionalization ideology, the conflictual ideology, the praxis ideology, and the secondary ideology
