Development and Testing of Zeolite-Based Slow Release Fertilizer NZEO-SR in Water and Soil Media
The research was carried out in the Laboratory of Soil Science and greenhouse Agriculture Faculty, Jenderal Soedirman University. This experiment was aimed at studying the effects of fertilizer adhesive levels and fertilizer granule size on water penetration, water, and soil chemical properties. The research was laid out according to Completely Randomized Design (CRD), consisting of 2 factors i.e. fertilizer granule size (2 sizes) and fertilizer adhesive (5 levels). There were 10 types of NZEO-SR fertilizers tested with 3 replications. The fertilizers were tested in water and soil media, totaling 60 experimental units. The results showed that NZEO-SR fertilizer having a diameter of 2.5 - 3.0 mm in combination with 3% (w/w) fertilizer adhesive had the highest ability to resist water penetration. Levels of fertilizer adhesive material gave significant effects on pH (H2O), electrical conductivity (EC) and water-soluble N. Diameter of fertilizer had no effect on all the variables studied, except for water-soluble N. Levels of fertilizer adhesive significantly affected the pH (H2O) and total soil N, but did not show significant effects on the EC and soil available N. The diameter of fertilizer had no effect on all soil chemical variables
ANALYSIS OF AVAILABILITY AND NEEDS OF GREEN OPEN SPACE IN KENDARI, SOUTHEAST SULAWESI, INDONESIA
Climate change caused by various factors of environmental damage is a phenomenon that occurs in all aspects of human life on this earth. Especially urban areas, which has become the center of civilization and the economy has suffered severe environmental damage.Green open space is a space that can be covered with trees or other plants, which, although narrow, but may help in reducing the effects, of environmental degradation.Studies on the content of biomass and carbon stored in the green open space is very important to determine the ability of green open space to absorb carbon. This research involves various sectors that cause carbon emissions in Kendari the capital city of Southeast Sulawesi Province in Indonesia, namely from the transport sector, industry and trade, education and office and residential activities. This research was conducted in three areas, namely business district, offices and settlements.The availability of green open space based on the calculation of the absorption of CO2 and produce O2 as well as the calculation of the availability of the number of trees to produce O2 and absorb CO2.The needs of green open space is calculated based on the needs of oxygen in humans and vehicles, carbon emissions in humans, vehicles, and household electronic equipment and green open space broad needs and the number of trees to absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen in the business district, offices and settlements. The results showed that the availability of green space based on oxygen consumption in the business district should have a green open space covering 61% of the total area, the settlement area must have a comprehensive RTH minimum of 15.3% of the area of the region, which means a minimum area of RTH not eligible based on oxygen demand, while for an office area, the existing green open space area is 53.16% that an area has exceeded the minimum requirement of extensive green open space based on the need for oxygen. It is relevant to a comparison of emissions and carbon deposits in the three regions, namely the business area amounted to 0.2189 tons of carbon savings with the amount of emissions to 3.5 tons per day, the settlement area total carbon storage is 62.545 producing an emission of 10.6 tons per day, while the office area produces carbon deposits is amounted to 5,464.93 tons per day by the number of emissions of 34.3 tons per day
ADAPTATION MANAGEMENT ON CLIMATE CHANGE: STUDY OF WOMEN ROLE IN FOREST AND LAND CONSERVATION AT THE UPSTREAM OF BENGAWAN SOLO WATERSHED
Conservation of forest and land at the upstream areas are important in watershed management. The purpose of this research is to study the role of women in the forest and land conservation in the watershed upstream Bengawan Solo, which included: potential, obstacles, access and participation of women. This study is useful as consideration of increasing the role of women in the forest and land conservation in the watershed management.This research was conducted in the upstream of Bengawan Solo watershed, that is Protected Forest at Lawu Tawangmangu, Karanganyar and social forest at Jatisrono, Wonogiri, Central Java, which used qualitative methods through the application of Rapid Rural Appraisal (RRA). The collection of data conducted by observation, interview and Focused Group Discussion (FGD). Sampling was done by purposive sampling based on criteria related to conservation of forests and land. SWOT analysis method is applied to study the potential, weaknesses, threats, and the constraints of the role of women, while the gender analysis aimed to study the access and participation of women in the conservation of forests and land.The results showed that women have great potential to play a role in the conservation of forests and land in the watershed upstream Bengawan Solo but not yet accommodated as well it shows that women still facing limited access and participation. In fact, women have potentiality as the agent of change as well as in increasing productive of the economy in ecotourism and agroforestry. On the other hand, the women are facing policy implementation that still not accommodated with women interest. It is also found that there are no institutions which accommodate women activities related to conservation. They feel obtain limited benefits economically. Besides that, women participation in planning, implementing, evaluating, and monitoring was still not optimal
SUITABILITY ANALYSIS OF SORGHUM BASED ON RAINFALL AND LAND CONDITIONS IN GUNUNGKIDUL, INDONESIA
Sorghum is a grain, forage, or sugar crop and it is more suitable to be cultivated on dry land or paddy fields during the dry season since it has a vegetative period of rapid and easily expandable without requiring a lot of water. Moreover, sorghum has a high productivity, with low risk of failure, low cost, and pest resistant plant and it can be used as an alternative food for the community or could be used as biofuel. Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta, Indonesia has a lot of unused and marginal land, such as drought-prone areas, acid soil and saline soil, as well as other non-productive lands that has a potential to grow sorghum in order to overcome the scarcity of forage in the area when the dry season occurred. In this study, suitability of sorghum based on the characteristics of land conditions and rainfall was analyzed by overlaying maps of sorghum suitability over the area of interest. Since sorghum has an ability to adapt in dry condition and it has a wide benefit for human, this study suggest that sorghum has a potential crop for food diversification in changing the climate
STRATEGY PLANNING FORMULATION FOR AGROINDUSTRY BASED ON CASSAVA TO ANTICIPATE CLIMATE CHANGE (SWOT ANALYSIS AND BALANCE SCORECARD APPROACH)
Agroindustry based on cassava development is expected to have a strategic role in reducing problems in food security as well as to play a role in the process of agroindustrialization and development of the region. This study aims to formulate development strategies for agroindustry based on cassava and identify key indicators in the development of agroindustry based on cassava. This study uses the exploratory research and took sites in Central Java, Indonesia. The data used are strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats as well as a key indicator in the development of agroindustry based on cassava includes financial, market, internal process and grow and learning perspective. For data analysis used the SWOT analysis and Balanced Scorecard. This research resulted that development strategies alternatives of agroindustry based on cassava including products development to obtain added value, the market penetration through market education cassava-base products, Increased of productivity and business efficiency and institutional and business networking development. While key indicators of cassava-based agroindustries development are as follows: Financial perspective covering cost structure efficiency and increased sales. In the customer perspective at competitive prices will increase sales and return, while the increase in market share will increase returns. In the internal process, institutional effectiveness will guarantee the price to be competitive and a large market share will guarantee a return. Empowerment, training, and workshops is a power driver on internal processes. Empowerment will encourage institutional effectiveness, product innovation and employing good quality, while workshops and training will ensure good employing and good quality
ROLE OF COASTAL SEDIMENT ON SOIL NUTRIENT AVAILABILITY AND OIL PALM YIELD AT PEATLANDS
Peatlands which is limited in chemical, physical and ecology require appropriate management for oil palm plantation. Coastal sediment as an ameliorant in peatlands increased productivity some crops. This study aims determining the effect of the doses of coastal sediment as ameliorant on peatlands to the availability of N, P, K, Ca, Mg and Na oil palm plantations. This research was performed in the area of oil palm plantation in Kubu Raya district, Borneo, Indonesia. Experimental design employed randomized block design with 4 levels of coastal sediment doses (L), i.e. L0 = 0 t ha-1; L1 = 20 t ha-1; L2 = 40 t ha-1; L3 = 60 t ha-1 with three replication. The results showed that the application of coastal sediment at 40 t ha-1 in oil palm plantations significantly increased soil pH, availability of N, K, Ca and Mg, while P was not significantly differen
EFFECT USE BIOFERTILIZER AND DIFFERENCES TYPE SOIL ON GROWTH AND YIELD ARROWROOT
This research purposed to know the effect of biofertilizers, the effect of soil type, and the effect of interaction between biofertilizers and soil type on growth and yield arrowroot. This study uses a randomized block design with 2 factors, namely biofertilizers of biota max consisting of 2 levels and types of land consisting of 2 levels. Analysis of the data using Analysis of Variance and continued with Test of Least Significant Difference at the level 5%. The results of this study indicate that: 1) application of biofertilizer is effect significantly against increased in the number of leaves, number of tillers total, relative growth rate and net assimilation rate, the number of tubers per hill, tuber diameter, tuber length and weight of tuber per hill than without the application of biofertilizers, 2) arrowroot planting in soil grumosol significant effect against increased crop height, number of tillers total, relative growth rate, leaf area index, and the number of tuber per hill than arrowroot planting in rendzina soil
RICE GROWING PERIOD BASED ON THORTHWAITE MATHERDROUGHT INDEX FOR CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION IN GROBOGAN, CENTRAL JAVA, INDONESIA
The length of the dry season due to climate anomalies, which can cause drought. The drought can have an impact on agriculture, including rice production.The purposes of this research are to 1) determine the effect of the drought on rice production in Grobogan district; 2) provide the direction of rice growing period based on Thorthwaite Mather drought index in Grobogan district.Research steps are as follows: 1) To know the influence of drought towards the rice production, using the comparison between an average of rice production for five years divided by rice field area. 2) Determination of rice growing period using the runoff analysis based on Thorthwaite Mather calculation.The results of this research showed that: 1) Drought gave negative influence on rice production, it could be seen on the average of rice production. Sub-district which included in a high level of drought showed an average of rice productivity to 5.314 ton/ha, sub-district which included in a medium-level drought had an average of rice productivity to 5.701 ton/ha, and sub-district which included in a low-level drought had an average of rice productivity 5.902 ton/ha.; 2) Rice growing period obtained from the calculation of runoff is started from December to April
FARMERS’ ADAPTATION STRATEGIES TO CLIMATE CHANGE AND FOOD SECURITY OF HOUSEHOLDS OF ORGANIC RICE FARMERS IN TANGGAMUS REGENCY (ORDINAL LOGIT MODEL APPROACH)
These research aims were to analyze: (1) the farmers‘ adaptation strategies to climate change in farming and in maintaining food security, (2) the degree of food security of farmers’ households in both rainy and dry season, and (3) factors affecting the food security of farmers’ households. This research was carried out in Pekon Tampang Tua, Pematang Sawa Sub-district, Tanggamus Regency. The sample was taken in the census from 60 farmers who were certified to plant organic rice. Data was taken directly by interview survey on each farmer. Food security was measured by its definition according to FAO (1996) and Law of Indonesia. No.7 Year 1996. Factors affecting the food security of households were analyzed by using ordinal logit regression approach. The results showed that only 10 adaptation and anticipation on climate change strategies which has been applied by farmers Meanwhile, only 5 out of 7 strategies were applied by farmers to maintain the food security during climate change. The food security level of organic rice farmer’s households was higher in the rainy season compared to the dry season The analysis result showed that the farmers ‘adaptation strategies to climate change, education level of the patriarch, the price of rice, land area, and seasonal dummy variable in rice plantation affect positively on food security. Whilst, the number of family member, the price solid and liquid organic fertilizer negatively affect the food security level of organic rice farmer’s households
