    MANAGEMENT OF LEGUME AS LAND COVER CROP AND EMPTY BUNCH FOR THE NITROGEN EFFICIENCY IN INCEPTISOLS AT OIL-PALM PLANTATION

    The research aimed to know the kind of legume cover crop which more suitable to be cultivated especially in area of Natar, South Lampung and to know the efficiency of N supply. It used a single Completely Randomized Block Design (CRBD) consisted of 4 treatments (several kinds of debris), covering: kacang benguk (Mucuna cochinchinensis), kacang ruji (Pueraria javanica), and oil-palm empty bunch compared to one which no debris added (control). Data analyzed by regression, F test (α 5%; or Kruskal-Wallis), DMR test (α 5%; or Mood Median) and correlation test. Result showed that Pueraria javanica (kacang ruji) was more suitable to be cultivated. Regression showed that management of empty bunch tend to enhance the ratio of NH4+/N-mineral as indicator of N supply efficiency, while the management of Pueraria javanica tend to decrease the ratio of NH4+/N-mineral. The degradation of soil NO3- concentration in the treatment of empty bunch was followed by the degradation of soil nitrification potential and the enhancement of heterotrofic bacteria. The enhancement of soil nitrification potential in the Pueraria javanica and Mucuna cochinchinensis management was followed by the degradation of soil pH

    Evaluation of soil fertility status on agricultural is to know the fertility of soil chemically through soil analysis or soil test. This is done to obtain estimates data of land characteristics based on parameters observed and tested for various alternative uses based on specific objectives. Parameters used to assess soil fertility status are Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC); Bases Saturation (BS); Organic Carbon; Total P and K levels. Evaluation of soil fertility status is needed as an effort to know the potential and direction of the management of production land on the cultivation of agricultural crops, and to know the factor of fertility that limits on the land. Based on the above description, it is necessary to evaluate the status of soil fertility in Tirtomoyo District in order to be used in the effort to provide and increase food sustainability for Wonogiri region and able to increase the economy level and income for the farmers. The results showed that the soil fertility status in all areas of Tirtomoyo District classified into the low category. This is due to the low value shown in almost all observation parameters; Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC); Base Saturation (BS); Organic Carbon; Total P and K levels. The limiting factor of soil fertility status caused by a very low Total P value of 2.16 mg 100 g-1 to 14.19 mg 100 g-1, and Organic Carbon which is low with 0.4% to 1.7%

    The Roots and Leaves Character of Drought Tomato on Application of ZnSO4

    Application of Zn, beside as an essential nutrient for plants, is known to increase the resistance of plants during drought condition. The purpose of the research was to study the effect of ZnSO4 application on root and leaf character of tomato plants in drought conditions. Research was arranged in factorial randomized completely block design. The treatment consists of ZnSO4 application methods (soil and foliar), ZnS04 dosage (0, 40 and 60 mg Zn kg-1 and cultivars ('Permata’ F1 and 'Tyrana’ F1). Watering intervals of every two and eight days were applied, representing non-stress and drought stress conditions during the growth period of the plant. The results showed that the all response of character roots and leaves of the tomato did not show interaction among the three factors. Root biomass, root length and root surface area of tomato plants depend on the method of application and ZnSO4 dosage. Soil application increased root biomass and root surface area. Root biomass of ‘Permata’ and ‘Tyrana’ showed differences in responses to dosage of ZnSO4. Leaf area responses in both cultivars ‘Permata’ and ‘Tyrana’ showed the same pattern of the ZnSO4 dosage.     Soil temperature is one component that influences plant growth and microbial activities. This research was conducted in the great giant plantation, in the various locations with a different stage of the plant. The results show soil temperature in bare land and 1 month after planting give highest soil temperature than other because the soil not shaded by the plant canopy.     EFFICIENCY OF THREE BINDING AGENTS ON THE IMMOBILIZATION OF CADMIUM IN SOILS UNDER MEDICINAL AND SPICE PLANTS CULTIVATION IN AGRO-FORESTRY SYSTEMS

    The soil is an important resource, which sustains life on the planet. However, its contamination with Cadmium (Cd) may represent a huge threat to all the chain of living beings. Efforts have been done to minimize soil pollution with trace metals, as well as to amend those soils that are already polluted. This study was conducted aiming to determine the efficiency of three binding agents on the immobilization of Cd in three soil types collected from Karanganyar. Soil samples were collected from the topsoil (30 cm) and analyzed in the laboratory for pH, SOM, CTC, soil texture and initial Cd content before treatment. The experimental design was Completely Randomized (3 soil types; 3 adsorbents; 3 replications), and incubated for 24 days in the laboratory. After incubation, pH and Cd content were measured and ANOVA and Tukey’s test were performed. The results showed that Dolomite was the best binding agent on immobilization of Cd (95.45%) in each soil, followed by organic fertilizer (92.64%) and charcoal (91.53%). However, in general, all the binding agents showed remarkable efficiency on Cd immobilization in the three soil types. To sum up, this research may positively boost agricultural systems, which is determinant for sustainable development, in particular in developing countries worldwide. In addition, the outcomes may have a great impact on the reduction of soil pollution with agrochemicals and heavy metals. On the other hand, there is a potential to keep and restore ecological sustainability. Apart from this, also could minimize to some extent, climate change and global warming issues through multi-planting strategies, while significantly contributing to achieving food security and economic stability, as well as addressing poverty issues in rural areas

    THE EFFECTS OF MODERATING VARIABLE OF ENVIRONMENT KNOWLEDGE ON THE INTENTION TO RE-USE OF PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

    Nowadays commuting is a crucial point in modern activities. To supporting that commuting activities, a technology introduced and also applied in daily activities such as a car, motorcycle. Unfortunately, one negative side of it is the increasing of air pollution resulted from that commuting equipment. Further negative impacts, the weather cannot be predicted accurately again as a result of pollution piles that form the greenhouse phenomenon. The aim of this research is to investigate the influence of environment knowledge as a moderating variable to re-use public transportation.To achieve that objective, this study used a questionnaire distributed to the passengers of Batik Solo Trans (BST) Bus, which is a state transport corporation that operates in Solo City.  A total of 207 participants were selected by purposive sampling method by filled out a set of the questionnaire designed to collecting data. After being analyzed by SEM (GeSCA), the result shows that the travel time efficiency effects on satisfaction and also affects the service value. Furthermore, the satisfaction influences the intention to re-use and the environment knowledge variable moderates the relationship between satisfaction and intention to re-use.At the end of this article, the implications of the study are discussed as well limitations

    IMPACT OF EL NINO PHENOMENON ON PADDY FIELD AT SERAM ISLAND (CASE STUDY: EL NINO 2015-2016)

    One of the global climate phenomenon's which have great influence on Indonesia region, especially eastern Indonesia, both in the atmosphere and on the sea is ENSO where the circulation contained a phenomenon which we called El Nino. El Nino is a phenomenon of the warm column at western Pacific move to central also eastern Pacific region so that the sea surface temperature become warmer than normal values while in the western part of Pacific is cooler than the normal values. This condition characterized by the weakening of trade winds which indicate decreasing moisture supply from the central and eastern Pacific to the western Pacific region. So naturally with the cooling of western pacific sea surface temperature (Indonesia), reduced evaporation and a minimal supply of water vapor from central and eastern Pacific region hence the rain clouds growth process on Indonesian territory become inactive and tend to diminish as the strengthening intensity of the occurred El Nino. Global warming influenced on these incidents is that faster energy collected in the warm column. By mid-2015 until the beginning of 2016, Indonesia suffered the El Nino phenomena which are very significant to the agricultural sector, especially in Seram Island inside Maluku region. This condition causes the paddy field on Seram island areas affected by drought and crop failure. Based on calculations using land water balance, seen the periods of groundwater deficiencies took place in the late period of 2015 until early 2016. Therefore farmers must understand the science knowledge and clear information about El Nino phenomenon to do adaptation and mitigation as well as pattern also the determination of early season crops adapts to the climatological conditions that will happen.
