This study aims to analyze errors by students in problem-solving of mathematical story based on Watson criteria. The subjects of this study were two high-ability students, two moderate-ability students, and two low-ability students. This study at class VII-C SMP NU Sunan Giri Kepanjen. The instruments used are written tests and interviews — the validity of the data checking by the triangulation of sources that compare test results and interview data. Data analysis used is data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The students' errors were analyzed using the Watson error category, which consisted of 8 errors. The results showed that based on Watson's error criteria, the mistakes that occurred were inaccurate data, improper procedures, skill hierarchy problems, missing data, nothing manipulation directly, conflict level response, missing conclusions and in addition to the seven categories. The results of this study are expected to be an input for the teacher about the types of student's errors at SMP Sunan Giri Kepanjen

This study was aimed at describing the student’ learning progress on decimals addition by a set of learning activitis based on Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education. This research  method is design research which contain three stages, namely: preliminary design, design experiment and retrospective analysis. Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) has been designed to play an important role as learning design and research instrument. HLT was tested to 30 fourth grade students. The data were collected through interview, observation, and field notes. The findings of the research  showed that this instructional design could stimulate students  in the introduction of one digit decimal through the result of weight measurement, the use of the model that the students make themselves (model of) to describe the measurement results at the second level, and marking the result of the measurement to the number line and continued by describing the process of decimals addition from the measurement activity to the number line in the more formal level. Furthermore at the formal level, students are able to solve the problem of the decimals addition using the correct procedure that is the place value rule

This study aims to determine the difference of the mathematical communication skills improvement of students who obtained mathematical learning by problem-solving of scientific approach and Number Head Together (NHT) of cooperative learning and the students who obtained mathematical learning through the use of problem-solving approach only. This research is a quasi-experimental study with nonequivalent control group design. The population of this study was 274 students of 8th-grade who were distributed to seven classes. The samples taken were two classes, each of which consisted of 41 students for the experimental class and 42 students for the control class. The data were analyzed to compare students' mathematical communication skills using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics t-test. The result of this research showed that the mathematical communication skills improvement through the application of problem-solving of scientific approach and NHT of cooperative learning was higher than the mathematical communication skills of students who used a problem-solving approach only

This research aims to describe in detail the errors of students in doing TIMSS question and describe the factors that cause students to experience errors in the TIMSS for reasoning category in 8th grade. The research using descriptive qualitative approach. The subjects were 8th-grade students of SMP Al-Karimah Surabaya Data collection techniques used include tests, interviews, and documentation. While the object in this research is the test results of students of class VIII SMP Al-Karimah Surabaya in working TIMSS in Mathematics 2011 for the category of reasoning. The results of the error analysis of students in TIMSS 2011 can be summarized as follows: mistakes made by students are grouped into 3 types: a) Concept errors, b) Errors procedures, and c) Calculation error. In doing the TIMSS 2011 on reasoning category, the type of error that most students experience is a mistake in understanding the concept

Analisis Kemampuan Berpikir Kritis Matematis Siswa SMK Pada Materi Barisan dan Deret

This study aims to analyze the critical thinking skills of students of the vocational high school in mathematics concept of sequence and series. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with limited subjects that are 3 students of the vocational high school in Bandung district with high, medium and low classification. The main instrument in this study is the researchers themselves, critical thinking mathematical skill tests and interview guidelines. Results of this study show that the critical thinking skill mathematically owned by vocational students in Bandung district is still relatively low, it is based on written tests and interview with students

Pemberian Scaffolding Berdasarkan Kesalahan Berpikir Siswa Dalam Memecahkan Masalah Matematika

This research was aimed to elaborate on the form of scaffolding given by learners on algebra problem-solving. The approach used is descriptive qualitative. The study conducted in a junior high school in Malang Regency with 25 students and only two students were selected as research subjects to be given scaffolding level 2. Data collection method begins by requiring learners to solve algebra and next identify the pattern of mistakes or mistakes. Learners who have wrong answers, used as research samples. The results prove the form of scaffolding given the subject. If the subject experiences an error in understanding the problem, the scaffolding is given asking the subject to re-read the problem properly and carefully and give direction questions. However, if the subject has difficulty in making the planning of the settlement, the scaffolding given is giving the subject the opportunity to rearrange the design of the right answer. If the subject experiences an error in carrying out the planning, the scaffolding given is asking the subject to pay attention to the mathematical concept and to be careful in operating algebra

This research aims to develop learning tools of mathematics junior high school with a contextual approach as a tool for learning mathematics. The subjects are 34 students in the eighth grade of junior high school. The research method used is development research by referring to ADDIE development model which consists of five stages, namely analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The instruments are validation sheets of student worksheet, questionnaires, and test results. Results of this research are: (1) the validation result of student worksheet is in very good category; (2) the result of a questionnaire of student response is in very good category; and (3) the result of the student's learning test is in a good category. So that, student worksheet is feasible from the aspect of validity, practicality, and effectiveness

This study aims to describe students’ thinking process in solving the problems of generating function. This is a case study that classifies students into three categories: high, medium, and low. Subjects were asked to solve the problems then use think aloud to reveal their thinking process. The results show that in understanding the problem, using conceptual and procedural knowledge related to the problems, strategies, and experiences they have in solving similar problems between the three subjects is different. Subjects with high and medium capability are able to reveal the problem-solving component of Polya in detail, whereas low-ability subjects use only some of the problem-solving components of Polya

Analisis Kemampuan Representasi Matematis dalam Pemecahan Masalah Geometri serta Faktor-Faktor yang Mempengaruhinya

This is qualitative research with a descriptive-explorative approach that aims to determine students' mathematical representation skills in solving Geometry problems. The population is all students in the mathematics education department who study Basic Geometry. The main subject was chosen by stratified technique and purposive sampling. The instruments are placement tests, diagnostic tests, and guided interviews. Data collection uses a triangulation method that aims to examine legitimate data. The results showed that 1) subjects with high skills always present visual representations and mathematical expressions, 2) subjects with intermediate skills present visual representations and mathematical expressions, and verbal but less representative representations, 3) subjects with low skills don’t present visual representations and mathematical expressions and verbal representations of problem-solving steps; and 4) there are several factors that influence the ability of mathematical representation to solve geometric problems, among others, subjects are less able to present problems in geometric patterns, because the subject does not understand the problem

This research aims to get the result of the development of teaching materials valid vector calculus courses and proving the effectiveness of learning. The development model that will be used to develop teaching materials in this study is Four-D Models (Model 4D). The results of the use of teaching materials in the Calculus Vector subjects are stated to be valid and effective. This valid is based on: Meet the validate content and constructs set by experts. Effective learning is stated in the following 4 things. (a) Students who use learning instructional materials developed achieve individual and classical learning, (b) The average student score in the experimental class is better than the control class, (c) The influence of students' attitudes and learning skills on abilities critical thinking, and (d) There is an increase in the ability to think critically in classes that use the development of teaching materials
