Egy négyszögletű, de mégis kerek hely. A kollektív emlékezet színtere Lázár Ervin A Négyszögletű Kerek Erdő című művében

    No full text
A tanulmány Pierre Nora kollektív emlékezettel összefüggő elméletére építve fogalmazta meg hipotézisét, miszerint a Lázár Ervin A Négyszögletű Kerek Erdő című műve emlékezethelyként értelmezhető. A dolgozat egyúttal arra is kitér, hogy a mesék implicit tartalma, láthatatlan pedagógiai eszköztára miként járul hozzá a mű pedagógiai szerepének kanonizálódásához. A Négyszögletű Kerek Erdő ugyanis egy olyan emlékezeti tér, amely egy-egy szituáción túl, a közösségi lét, identitás működési mechanizmusait is tárolja

Kommunikáció és erdőpedagógia a gyakorlatban. Felsővezetői szakmai vélemények, elvárások

    No full text

    No full text

Balancing Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Through Forest Management Choices—A Case Study from Hungary

    No full text
Climate change is driving the need for forest management strategies that simultaneously enhance ecosystem resilience and contribute to climate change mitigation. Voluntary carbon markets (VCMs), regulated in the European Union by the Carbon Removal Certification Framework (CRCF), offer potential financial incentives for such management, but eligibility criteria—particularly biodiversity requirements—limit the applicability of certain species. This study assessed the ecological and economic outcomes of six alternative management scenarios for a 4.7 ha, 99-year-old Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) stand in western Hungary, comparing them against a business-as-usual (BAU) regeneration baseline. Using field inventory data, species-specific yield tables, and the Forest Industry Carbon Model, we modelled living and dead biomass carbon stocks for 2025–2050 and calculated potential CO2 credit generation. Economic evaluation employed total discounted contribution margin (TDCM) analyses under varying carbon credit prices (€0–150/tCO2). Results showed that an extended rotation yielded the highest carbon sequestration (958 tCO2 above BAU) and TDCM but was deemed operationally unfeasible due to declining stand health. Black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia) regeneration provided high mitigation potential (690 tCO2) but was ineligible under CRCF rules. Grey poplar (Populus × canescens) regeneration emerged as the most viable option, balancing biodiversity compliance, climate adaptability, and economic return (TDCM = EUR 22,900 at €50/tCO2). The findings underscore the importance of integrating ecological suitability, market regulations, and economic performance in planning carbon farming projects, and highlight that regulatory biodiversity safeguards can significantly shape feasible mitigation pathways

University Nature Trails as Experiential Tools for Shaping Student Sustainability Attitudes: A Case Study from the University of Sopron (Hungary)

    No full text
University nature trails are innovative forms of experiential learning and environmental education that foster sustainability awareness, student engagement, and well-being. This study examines the impact of the nature trail located on the campus of the University of Sopron on students’ sustainability-related attitudes and behaviors. The research applies a mixed-methods approach: narrative and institutional case studies are complemented by a quantitative survey with 916 valid responses. The case study presents the conceptual background of the trail, its design and implementation process, and its integration into the university’s educational and community life. It highlights the cultural and local significance of the trail, as well as its connection to the sustainability efforts of higher education in Central Europe. The quantitative survey assesses students’ knowledge, confidence in applying sustainability principles in practice, and opinions on the university’s environmental initiatives (e.g., selective waste collection, use of renewable energy sources, and green infrastructure). The findings indicate a high level of interest in environmental issues among students, yet gaps remain in translating sustainability knowledge into consistent, everyday actions. The case study reveals that the trail provides a place-based, experiential learning environment that strengthens emotional bonds with nature, supports interdisciplinary learning, and fosters community engagement. By linking theoretical knowledge with direct experiences, it enables deeper understanding and helps bridge the gap between knowledge and action. The combined methodological approach offers a comprehensive view of how experiential learning environments can influence sustainability awareness. The study presents a Central European example in which sustainability education is embedded in local values and a nature-based setting, supporting behavioral change and community building in higher education

The dark attractions of literature in Europe - marketing communication of dark literary tourist attractions connected to the two World Wars and the Cold War

    No full text
Dark literary tourism is a lesser-known subcategory of both dark tourism and literary tourism, incorporating elements from both in terms of attractiveness and tourist motivations. This study explores the impact of literary works and their film adaptations on the attractiveness of dark tourism destinations, particularly those related to the First and Second World Wars, and the Cold War, such as the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach – combining analysis of the chosen sites’ websites and in-depth interviews with their visitors – the research examines how marketing strategies align with tourist motivations. Key findings show that curiosity and a desire for learning are primary motivations for visitors, with literature serving as a catalyst for a more emotional engagement. The relationship between consuming literary works, watching their film adaptations, and visiting related sites shows the storytelling’s role in shaping tourist behavior. This study provides insights for service providers and Destination Marketing Organizations on optimizing marketing strategies that incorporate literary elements. Recommendations are proposed to enhance historical remembrance through collaborations between book publishers, filmmakers, and tourist attractions, potentially including book tours to ensure the remembrance of the darkest side of history

Radial growth projections reveal site-specific futures of different oak species with contrasting water availability in SW Hungary

    No full text
The growth and vitality of forest ecosystems in Central Europe are expected to be affected by climate change, posing a challenge for forest management. In this study, we examined and projected the relationship between growth and climate for dominant sessile oak ( Quercus petraea (Matt.) Liebl.) and Turkey oak ( Quercus cerris L.) trees in two sites in Hungary, each with different water availability. We developed a single linear mixed model based on tree age, climatic water balance and insect outbreak for the study period (1971–2021) to estimate the impact of projected climate change in the 21st century on basal area increments until 2100 using two climate scenarios (RCP4.5 and RCP8.5). Our study suggests that the growth response of oak species to different seasonal water balances is site and species-specific. We found that the water balance of the previous winter had a significantly greater influence on the growth in the stands of the dry site than in the stands of the wet site. Q. cerris reacted more sensitively to the water balance conditions of the previous summer than Q. petraea . Predictive models forecast a general growth decline of up to 10.8% for both oak species during the 21st century compared to past growth with a significant change according to the RCP8.5 scenario. Additionally, the models predict a significantly greater decrease in growth in the more humid site compared to the xeric site which could be attributed to the site-specific response of growth to the winter water balance. At the same time, we did not detect significant differences in the future growth of the two oak species. These findings provide insights into the climate-related factors influencing growth in Hungarian oak forests
