Academic Writing Q&A Series 6
The presentation gives an overview of the process of getting one’s first article ready for publication. This presentation serves as the basis for a video from the Academic Writing Q&A series that was created as a supplement to the My First Scientific Article webinar. The presentation emphasizes the importance of pre-writing preparation and post-draft revision depending on the type of article intended and advises on how to schedule the time needed for both. The content is useful for Early Career Researchers and for everyone who is interested in scholarly communication and publishing
Developing a New Identifier to Support Trust in Media: Input on a Universal Media Identifier
In early 2024, ISO approved the creation of a new International Workshop Agreement project to develop a plan for a new identifier that would uniquely identify media channels and brands. The deliverable of this workshop is a document that provides requirements and recommendations for the structure and governance of Unique Media Identifiers (UMiDs) that are assigned to channels and brands (content publishers). The aim of this unique key is to establish source identity, i. e. a clear connection between outlets and assets belonging to the same content publisher, channel, or brand across platforms, including news media websites and their social media presence. Such an interoperable system of identifiers is crucial to safeguarding the integrity of the online news ecosphere,,which is relevant for every stakeholder and user when publishing, accessing, and managing content online
A Community Proposal for Japan's National PID Strategies
The session is organized by interested parties of the PID community in Japan. We will share our ongoing efforts in developing a community proposal for Japan’s national PID strategies, which is primarily targeted toward PID stakeholders in Japan but also intended through this session for wider community input from those countries with or without their national PID strategies in place. The participants may find commonalities and differences in Japan’s PID environment contrasted to their own country’s, and in turn, share their perspectives in approaching similar challenges and how they are to overcome them through interactive discussion. We intend to include those inputs as our final recommendations
Business trip report from Open Repositories 2024
Ve dnech 3. až 7. června se konala 19. mezinárodní konference o repositářích - Open Repositories (OR). Open repositories 2024 nabídl paralelně 11 workshopů, 130 prezentací a panelových diskuzí.

Research Activity Identifiers (RAiDs): Bringing an Emerging PID to Global Production
This workshop provides an overview of the Research Activity Identifier (RAiD). RAiD is a persistent identifier for research projects, which links a project’s organisations, people, inputs and outputs and provides key information not found elsewhere. RAiDs reduce the administrative burden of research project management, facilitate reporting of research outputs and impacts, and make research more transparent by exposing a project’s make-up and how it changes over time. The workshop consists of three parts lasting 20 minutes each. First, we will briefly introduce RAiD, focusing on the overall approach, metadata schema, identifier strategy, and the latest RAiD development and implementation updates. This part will include a short demonstration. Next, participants will have the opportunity to use the system, creating and editing RAiDs in a demonstration environment (including a web application and API). Finally, we will offer participants the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback about the system itself, use cases, and other aspects of RAiD that can inform future technical and policy development
Practical Implementation of PIDs in Research Platforms: Lessons & Next Steps
In this talk, we overview the outcome of the "Enhancing interoperability through the use of PIDs in research platforms" project, which involved a collaboration between research tool providers and institutions to clarify, design, and implement IGSN IDs for material samples into the RSpace Inventory system, by integrating with DataCite’s DOI API. We focus on the practical challenges encountered: navigating close communication between multiple parties with varied backgrounds, such as gaps in conceptual knowledge around PIDs, differences in terminology used, and a lack of a clear framework for identifying the ideal allocation of responsibilities and roles within the PID workflow

The centralization of services, readership categories, unit statuses, terminology and the process of unification of all these things are addressed
PIDs for Content That’s WILD
In this session, you’ll learn about a major initiative that since 2020 has ‘tamed’ more than 15 million reports and archived items and has put in place infrastructure so each and every one can now take its rightful place in the scholarly record for the benefit of researchers, practitioners and students worldwide
RDA for PIDs: Challenges, Solutions and Initiatives
This panel discussion brings representatives from these RDA groups together with international PID experts to discuss the current landscape around PIDs, and to openly share identifier-related challenges, solutions, and initiatives for the future. This session not only provides an exciting opportunity to showcase the work (Recommendations and Outputs) of relevant RDA groups on PIDs, but also to exchange ideas, use cases, best practices, success stories, and lessons learned with an expert audience
