Rice demand in Indonesia increases every year so it makes the big gap between production and consumption of rice. Excess demand is covered by rice import which causes domestic rice price responds the global rice price movements that harm both producers and consumers. So, the policy instruments that could reduce dependence on rice import and can provide benefits to producers and consumers of rice is very needed. The objectives of this study were to analyze the impact of rice policy on rice market and the welfare of rice producers and consumers. This study uses annual time series data and simultaneous equations model with two stages least squares method. The analysis showed that rice policy changes can influence condition of Indonesia’s rice market and that the increase in Government Purchase Price (HPP), agricultural credit, and fertilizer subsidy can improve the welfare of the producers and consumers

Prediction of ripeness level of melon fruit is conducted manually by looking at the colors and nets on the skin, or the sound of a knocking on the melon fruit. This manual method produces an inconsistent degree of accuracy that cannot be applied in harvesting. The use of spectroscopy in the near infra-red region (NIR) is a way of improving consistency and accelerating the process of estimating the fruit ripeness level without damaging the product. The objective of this research was to study the ripeness parameters of the Golden-Apollo variety of melon using NIR spectroscopy method. Parameters of fruit ripeness studied were moisture content, total soluble solids (TSS), and fruit firmness. The material used was melon fruits with four different harvesting ages. The equipment used was NIRFlex N-500 Solid Optical Fiber spectrometer that worked at 1.000-2.500 nm wavelengths. The method used in calibration and validation of NIR spectrum data and reference data was partial least square (PLS) with pre-processing of spectral data i.e., normalization, first and second derivatives of savitzky-golay, and multiplicate-scatter correction. The results showed that the best predictive model obtained to predict ripeness level of melon fruit was to use the ripeness parameters of total soluble solids and firmness of meat. The moisture parameter resulted in a poor predictive model that could not be used to predict a melon ripeness level with a good result

Conflict handling in Papua so far is more often done with the repressive approach. The impact of conflict level is not decreasing, even international rejection is increasing. For that reason, a more humanistic approach is needed, including through empowerment. The purpose of this research is to study the community empowerment model in conflict-prone areas as an effort to realize the food security and the strategy of model replication in another area. The research method is done by action research, and SWOT analysis to formulate the strategy of model replication. The empowerment model conducted in several ways. First, gradually improve farming skills more productive-with the introduction of simple agricultural technology brings the change of community behavior from nomadic to the subsystem. Second, farming in order to provide for basic needs and also daily, weekly, monthly income as well as savings for families. Third, business development efforts by partnerships, with the government, companies, and religious institutions. The nodes of empowerment activities are conducted through the Agribusiness Training Center (ATC) that facilitates all empowerment activities. There are several things to consider in the replication model of empowerment: identification of program targets, needs assessment, institutional initiation, technology selection, assistance to the program, and partnerships with various stakeholders

Swamp eel (Monopterus albus) is an economically important freshwater fish which has the potential to sustainable development. This species is considered as one of the taxonomically problematic spesies due to its complex characters and similar morphology to Monopterus cuchia and Monopterus javanensis that often lead to taxonomic dilemmas. Taxonomic certainty is an essential basis information in sustainable fisheries management, studies on morphometric characters, and genetic variability is a method which commonly used for species or stock identification. This study was aimed to validate the taxonomy certainty and evaluate the kinship of swamp eel from four populations (Indramayu, Subang, Tasikmalaya, and Garut distrik) in West Java. Morphometric analysis was conducted by measurement of 19 characters, whereas genetic analysis was conducted using PCR-Sequencing method of COI gene. The results from stepwise discriminant analysis showed that 7 morphometric characters ratio were powerful to classified the populations and the first two discriminant functions accounted 84.2% of the total variability. Genetic diversity indicated by alignment 14 sekuen of COI gene showed there were 11 haplotypes from 109 variable sites. Results of cluster and phylogenetic tree analysis indicated that swamp eel from four research populations were grouped into two major clusters. The first cluster consists of Indramayu and Subang population, the second cluster consists of Tasikmalaya and Garut population. This cluster is an evidence that swamp eel from West Java possesed morphometric and genetic diversity among populations and lead to assumption that at least there were two cryptic species from M. albus in West Java.

Natural feed additive supplementation could lead to higher production performance of quails on many occasions. This study was aimed to evaluate the effect of Piper betle L. (betel leaf) infuse supplementation on egg characteristics of quails. Quails were raised in Slamet Quail Farm, Sukabumi, West Java, Indonesia for 3 months. Quails had been fed adlibtum using a commercial diet. Betel leaf supplementation in different concentration had been given to replace drinking water. The treatments were P0: 0% supplementation, P1: 10% supplementation was given since day old quail (DOQ), P2: 20% supplementation was given since DOQ, P3: 30% supplementation was given since DOQ, P4: 10% supplementation was given since laying phase, P5: 20% supplementation was given since laying phase, P6: 30% supplementation was given since laying phase. The results showed that betel leaf infuse supplementation reduced the weight of egg shell, increasing the weight of egg albumin and increased egg weight significantly (P<0.05). There was no significant effect (P>0.05) on another egg quality variables. It could be concluded that betel leaf infuses supplementation could affect the egg shell, albumin, and egg weight without affecting other egg quality traits. Overall, betel leaf supplementation could be applicated because it could increase egg albumin quality and egg weight. Even though additional handling is needed because betle leaf infuses supplementation could reduce egg shell quality and the egg could break easily
