    MUSLIMWORLD: HISTORICAL, POLITICAL, AND SOCIO-CULTURAL PERSPECTIVE

    Issues about Islamic education have gained much attention to various historical, political, and socio-cultural factors. The state of Islamic education is attached to a great extent to local and international developments. Islamic education, like other institutions in the Muslim world, has struggled with challenges of development, modernization and globalization. Islamic education faces challenges from within as well as the challenges that the system poses to communities and societies in the Muslim world and beyond. The challenges explained by categories of its position within the larger educational system, its education process and pedagogy, the efforts of Muslim scholars, and modernization, politicization and militarization of Islamic education. However, improvement of the existing achievements must be a continuous exercise. A certain kind of strategy has to be designed and regularly improved. Through this, Islamic education could be a leadingendeavor for the sake of harmonious and safe living for all mankind, irrespective of ethnic and religious orientations, and also could achieve the educational balance between tradition and enlightenment

    MEDIA: CAUSES AND STRATEGIES TO OVERCOME ISLAMOPHOBIA (PSYCHOLOGICAL AND SOCIOLOGICAL STUDY)

    A stereotype appears and describes that Islam is the cause of a series of terror. Therefore, some states are worried and suspicious toward Muslims (Islamophobia) up to the present. Islamophobia associated with negative prejudices against Muslims and Islam, and lead to construction of anti-Islam. Prejudice is based on a claim that Islam is an inferior religion and can threat the dominant values in society. The phenomenon of Islamophobia can be assessed by two perspectives: sociological and psychological. In the case of Islamophobia, media became the object of analysis because it has the dichotomy function. They become the cause for the outbreak of Islamophobia symptoms (latent functions). On the other hand, the media is an information agent which has role to provide education and social change effects (manifest functions). Thus, the media can be an instrument or strategy to overcome the turmoil of Islamophobia by involving a synergy of government, Islamic organizations, and institutions of higher education

    THE INFLUENCE OF SCHOOL SUBJECTS’ COURSES TO THE PUBLIC INTEREST IN TPQ

    This article tries to show that the existence of school subjects’ courses in our society brings many effects. The widespread of school subjects’ courses recently has influenced the public interest to TPQ. In addition, the high interest of the students to school subjects’ courses also shows students and parents distrust towards formal education that is school. The focus of this study is to find out the people’s reasons which prefer to engage their children to school subjects’ courses than to the TPQ. The method of this research is qualitative method which uses library research by analyzing some literatures such as books and journal articles. The results of this study shows that the presence of many school subjects’ courses makes the public interest in the TPQ decreased. There are many factors which influence the decline of public interest in TPQ. These factors include the more difficult of the subjects in school, the same of learning time of TPQ and school subjects’ courses, the quality and quantity of teacher and institutional facilities

    ISLAMIC EDUCATION OF CHILDREN WITH PARENTS AS INDONESIAN MIGRANT WORKERS (Case Study in Karangwotan Village, Pati, Central Java)

    Many parents who decided to work abroad as International migrant workers. They work for financial fulfilment. On the other hand, their children do not get more attention from them because the children are usually left by father/mother or both of them to work abroad and the children are at home just with their mothers or grandparents. This qualitative research was conducted in Karangwotan village, Pati, Central Java. The data showed three result: (1) problems faced by the children with parents as immigrant in getting Islamic education are that they do not have the real model in the family and there was no father/mother or both of them who teach and educate in the family; (2) there is just little parents’ influence to children’s islamic education. It is just such kind of order, suggestion and advice; and (3) for getting the islamic education,  the children with parents as immigrant workers join several islamic programs. They are Taman Pendidikan Qur’an (TPQ) or Program of Qur’an Education, Madrasah Ibtidaiyyah or Islamic Elementary School, and the islamic courses

    This paper aims to describe how the role of the library for students is. And it also aims to describe how to maximize the role of the library as an educational media using descriptive analysis method. Maximizing thelibrary management for student must be supported by a professional management and modern library by the school so that people can see concrete changes of a library. There are several things that can be done by the school in order to change the social stigma of the existence of the school. First, the library should be managed more professional. Second, the library should be developed with adequate facilities. Based on the role and duties of the library, the library needs to conduct educational programs or users so that the available library collection can be disseminated and used effectively and efficiently

    إن مفهوم التحرير العلماني يلغي سلطة الدين على المجتمع، وهو أمر قد يتفق مع بعض الأديان، ولكن لا يتفق مع الإسلام الذي يعد الدنيا والآخرة والدين والحياة سياقات متواصلة، وقد كان رسول الله  نفسه زعيما للدولة الإسلامية الأولى، وهذا أيضا ما فعله الخلفاء الراشدون، كلهم علماء في دينهم وقادة سياسيون في دولهم. فصل الدولة والسياسة عن الإسلام سوف يعوق ويعطل دور نظرية الإسلام في المجتمع. فالدين يكون مسألة شخصية خاصة ولا علاقة له بالجمهور والمجتمع. إن مفهوم العلمنة النابع من النظر الغربي -المسيحي استوردها ونشرها بعض المفكرين المسلمين في مجتمعاتهم بغير إدراك جيد للأسس التاريخية والفلسفية واللاهوتية والسوسيولوجية لهذه الفكرة

    AN ANALYSIS OF MARKING SYSTEM USED BY WRITING LECTURERS OF STAIN CURUP IN TESTING STUDENTS’ WRITING ABILITY

    This is a descriptive study which is presented in narative way since the data is analysed by using verbal explanation. The reseracher collects the data about Writing test format, the criteria of marking and the scoring system used by Writing lecturers of STAIN Curup deeply. The subjects of this reserach are Writing Letcurers in English Tadris Study Program of STAIN Curup. A checklist and an interview guidance are used as the intruments of this research to gain the data on format of writing test and the criteria of marking. Fieldnotes are also taken in order to observe some data which is not performed in observation and also used to trianggulate the whole result. Observation, document analysis and interview are the technigues in collecting data. The finding of this research shows that Writing lecturers useGap Filling, Form Completion, Information transfer task, Letter writing, Integrating reading into Writing, Open-ended Essay Test, Responding to a given Information are their formats in testing students’ writing ability. The finding also finds that the criteria of marking used by the Writing lecturers are Grammar, Punctuation, Spelling, Relevance and Adequacy of Content. Unfortunately the writing lecturers do not include the score for each criteria. The scoring scheme is only based on the scheme designed by institusion (STAIN Curup) they are: 00 – 49 = E (gagal), 50 – 59 = D, 60 – 69 = C, 70 – 85 = B dan 86 – 100 = A.There is also no scale of scoring for each aspect of writing. It is important for writing lecturers to include the score for each criteria of marking in writing test as suggested by the theory. It can improve the objectivity of scoring and directly minimize the subjectivity. Eventhough the institution has its own regulation in calculating the score, the writing lecturers also need to consider the purpose of teaching writing skill itself

    THE INFLUENCE OF THE ONE DAY ONE JUZ (ODOJ) MOVEMENT ON THE TRADITION OF RECITING QUR’AN

    One Day One Juz [ODOJ] is one of phenomena which emerges in Indonesian Muslim realm. This phenomenon have been getting a great appreciation proven to the great amount of the ODOJ communities [ODOJer] that spread in Indonesia and even in abroad. the main program of ODOJ is forming the habit of reciting the Qur’an and finishing it. As we know, reciting the Qur’an, before it, has been done by other Muslim communities. Both of them get inspiration from hadith teaching which reveal the exellences of the Qur’an. The uniqueness of ODOJ is capability to form the unity of Muslim and then make a movement to recite the Qur’an together concerning to a toughtfulnes of the Muslim’s affection to the Qur’an. So that, this writing tries to describe this phenomenon related to the hadith understanding. ODOJ as the religious and even social movement presents in dialectical relation among socioculturalcircumstances [include the text of hadith] and Muslim which create the wider community

    هذه دراسة تأصيلية تجمع بين التأصيل والتفريع للأهداف التشريعية لنظام الوقف الإسلامي حسبما ورد في القرآن الكريم والسنة النبوية، فمما لايكاد يخفى على أحد أهمية الوقف والحاجة لفهم الأهداف التشريعية له لتفعيل دوره وتوجيهه لتطوير خدمة المجتمعات المعاصرة اليوم، لذلك جاءت هذه الدراسة. وتكمن مشكلة البحث في الحاجة لتنزيل الأهداف والمقاصد التشريعية على الوقائع والمستجدات المستشكلة في الواقع المعاصر للمساهمة بذلك في تطوير المجالات الوقفية وتوجيهها على نحو يساهم في خدمة مجتمعاتنا المعاصرة.أما أهداف البحث فتتلخص في التعريف بالوقف وأهميته كما جاء في القرآن والسنة، وكذلك إبراز الأهداف التشريعية للوقف وكيفية توجيهها لتطوير الوقف ومن ثم بيان كيفية توجيه المصارف الوقفية لتحقيق الأهداف التشريعية للوقف وفي الختام ذكر أبرز الفروع والتطبيقات المالية المعاصرة للأوقاف ودورها في تحقيق الأهداف التشريعية للوقف.وتنتظم هذه الدراسة في عقد الدراسات النوعية والتي ستعتمد على المناهج العلمية التالية المنهج الاستقرائي والتحليلي والمنهج الاستنباطي ومنهج النقد والمقارنة والترجيح
