This study examines the two subcategories of ambivalent sexism, hostile and benevolent. As they are experienced by the female characters in Cho Nam Joo's Saha. The study investigates how sexism is portrayed in character conversation, actions, and narrative descriptions using a qualitative text analysis method. The ambivalent sexism theory, which was created by Susan Fiske and Peter Glick, was used to analyze the data. Results show that benevolent sexism takes the form of overly protective attitudes and exaggerated praise, while hostile sexism in the book takes the form of verbal and physical abuse. Both of these behaviors reinforce social inequalities and gender stereotypes. The research concludes that Saha effectively portrays the complex dynamics of sexism in a patriarchal society, providing insight into how such themes contribute to discussions on gender studies and literature

A framing analysis of William A. Gamson on the news “The death of Yahya Sinwar” in France24 and Al-Hurroh

This study aims to determine the framing patterns used by international media, especially France24 and Al-Hurroh, in reporting the conflict related to the death of one of Hamas' main leaders, Yahya Sinwar, due to Israeli airstrikes in Gaza. This research used a qualitative content analysis approach based on the framing theory developed by William A Gamson. The data were obtained from news articles that discussed the Sinwar death incident and Hamas' response to the event. The results of the analysis show that the framing devices in the reporting of Yahya Sinwar's death in both France24 and Al-Hurroh media consist of metaphors, catchphrases, examples, depictions, and visual images. In contrast, the reasoning device consists of a root, appeal to principle and consequences. The use of these framing and reasoning devices shows that in the reporting of Yahya Sinwar's death, there are differences in framing patterns that affect how information is conveyed and perceived. France24 frames events in a strategic and political context, while Al-Hurroh builds more fact-based narratives. The findings underscore the different framing approaches by the two media outlets that can influence readers' perceptions of the Hamas-Israel conflict and potentially shape public opinion and global policy on Middle East issues

Student poetry translations with and without the use of AI: An evaluation of translation quality

Poetry translation presents a unique challenge, as it requires maintaining a delicate balance between semantic fidelity and the preservation of the aesthetic qualities of the target text. This study aims to evaluate the quality of poetry translations produced by university students both with and without the assistance of artificial intelligence (AI), using four assessment criteria based on Nababan's (2012) framework: accuracy, acceptability, readability, and poeticness. The research employed a descriptive quantitative approach with an evaluation instrument using a three-point scale, where a score of 3 indicates high quality, 2 denotes moderate quality, and 1 reflects low quality. Data were obtained from poetry translations evaluated by experienced raters using a standardized rubric, with results analyzed in terms of frequency distribution and percentages. Findings reveal that in AI-assisted translations, the highest score attainment was observed in readability (52.76%), followed by acceptability (51.14%), accuracy (50.39%), and poeticness (24.34%) as the lowest. In contrast, in translations without AI, the highest score attainment was also found in readability (34.76%), followed by accuracy (33.06%), acceptability (32.43%), and poeticness (12.33%). This comparison indicates that AI use consistently enhances accuracy, acceptability, and readability scores, yet shows limited capacity to improve poeticness significantly. This aspect requires creativity, stylistic sensitivity, and nuanced linguistic judgment beyond the current capabilities of AI systems
