    Get PDF
The purpose of the article is to consider the originality of the art world of the contemporary Austrian writer Barbara Frischmuth who created in the novel Mistress of the Animals a unique "animalistic context". Frischmuth explores human nature through the images of the animal world, in connection with which the author of the article adheres to the term "human-animal studies". "Human-animal studies" in the works of the writer have a mythological nature, with the help of which Frischmuth illustrates the modern world. The relevance of the study is dictated by the inadequate exploration in homeland literary studies of the Austrian writer B. Frischmuth. Hence, considering the work of the Austrian writer in this context, this research is an attempt to pastose  the generalised characteristic of "animalier art". The undertaken study considers the understudied topical problems of modernity, given the literary experience of Barbara Frischmuth. In the animal work Frishmuths"anthropological" and "zoological" are transformed in a specific synthesis; this duality characterises animal characters in her works, and would become a hallmark of her work

    Get PDF
In market conditions, the state bore a heavy burden of functions that might be too heavy and sometimes almost unmanageable because of historical development, deepened by the realities of the world economy, as well as various crisis phenomena repeatedly analysed in this and past centuries. At the same time, combining the possibilities of state regulation and market opportunities of business entities, it is possible to achieve significant results by solving a wide range of issues regarding the provision of public services. The research aims to form the potential structure of the European Union development and global practice in the form of development of public-private partnership projects. It is determined by the need that we can agree that the basis of public-private partnership (PPP) relations is the interdependence of business and government regulation which is reflected in the existence of the relations between the representatives of public and private sectors. The result of the research demonstrates that the PPP is a form of cooperation in which the state and private sector jointly implement socially significant projects based on the agreement on the distribution of tasks and risks.  Indeed, it is an institutional alliance between the state and business established for a certain period for the implementation of a specific project and ceases to exist after its implementation. To accomplish the research objectives, we have developed a methodological approach to the coordination of the economic interests of the PPP participants. The approach includes the implementation of multivariate calculations of the PPP project internal cost using the method of discounted cash flows, revision of the agreement terms and the choice of such values of the PPP agreement parameters

Researchers have also paid little attention to examine work-life balance from a cross-cultural perspective, especially in Asian countries. The principal purpose of the present study is to analyse the available literature on the work-life balance among selected Asian countries. The focus of the present study is to identify the determinants of work-life balance and scrutinise the highly significant determinants of work-life balance across different cultures and regions. Based on identified determinants, it will suggest suitable measures to improve the most prevailing determinant of work-life balance among Asian countries. Further, the current study will also identify the current state of work-life balance focusing on theory, logic and methodology. The methods of the study involve secondary data to find out determinants of work-life balance conducted in India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Singapore and China; and it will compare the effectiveness of determinants of work-life balance to these regions. The data will help to describe how employees perceive work-life balance and why they engage in paid work, and what approaches are being adopted by these countries to balance work life in the context of varying economic, political, cultural, social and family conditions. The findings of present research and analyses will provide scholars with a complete understanding of the state of cross-cultural work-life balance and offer recommendations for future research that will undoubtedly facilitate theoretical advancement. &nbsp

The Profitability of Paddy Cultivation and Farmers’ Perception in West Bengal with Special Reference to Purba Bardhaman District

    Get PDF
Many economists and experts opined that agriculture is an unprofitable activity in India nowadays, mainly because of increasing cost and low prices of farm produce. However, during the field survey in Galsi-I and Galsi-II Blocks of Purba Bardhaman, it was observed that many farmers do not think so. In this context, using the secondary data on the cost of paddy cultivation for the period 1996–97 to 2015–16, this paper analyses the cost and returns from paddy cultivation in West Bengal. It is observed that the cost has increased at a very high rate. Paid out cost at current prices during the last decade has increased by 12.1 per cent per annum. However, they do not realise the right price of their produce, and consequently, the profit margin has declined. Data reveal that farmers incurred losses in paddy cultivation upto 14 times except for in 2007–08 and in 2009–10 during 2000–01 to 2015–16. They are also being deprived of getting even the minimum support prices (MSP) due to loopholes in government initiatives. Using primary data, this paper explains why many farmers think that paddy cultivation is still a profitable activity. In doing so, the research finds that they miscalculate the cost of cultivation and that is why they perceive the profit margin to be higher. The kinds of cost that they do not calculate include family labour, depreciation charge, interest on capital, the rental value of owned land, and others. Another cause for exaggerated profit is that farmers include income from paddy business as return from agriculture
