    Penelitian “Respon Pertumbuhan Dan Hasil Padi Gogo Terhadap Beberapa Dosis Kompos Sampah Kota “ adalah percobaan lapangan dan laboratorium Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Barat. Tujuan penelitian untuk mendapatkan dosis kompos sampah kota yang tepat untuk ;pertumbuhan dan hasil padi gogo. Rancangan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK), dengan 5 taraf dan 4 ulangan yaitu : dosis kompos sampah kota adalah 0, 5, 10, 15 dan 20 t/ha. Data pengamatan dianalis secara statistika dengan uji F pada taraf nyata 5 %. Hasil peneltian memperlihatkan dosis 20 t/ha dapat memberikan hasil yang terbaik untuk pertumbuhan tanaman padi gogo.     KURVA SORPSI FOSFAT MENURUT LANGMUIR DAN FREUNDLICH SEBAGAI PENDUGA KEBUTUHAN PUPUK FOSFAT PADA ANDISOLS SUMATERA BARAT

    Andisols are among the most productive soils in the world, but these soils also strongly retained phosphate.  The high capacity for phosphate sorption in Andisols is due to their high content of active Al and Fe compounds.  The objectives of this study were to assess the effect of soil properties on P sorption, buffer capacities and requirements of some benchmark soil profiles in Mt. Marapi and Mt. Pasaman.  The P sorption characteristics of Andisols from West Sumatra were described using Langmuir and Freundlich equations.  The P sorption maximum in Mt. Pasaman soils was higher than in Mt. Marapi soils. The most important soil properties affecting P sorption and buffer capacities were oxalate Si and Fe, Al (Sio Feo and Alo), dithionite Al (Ald), pyrophosphate Al (Alp), which explained 89% of the variance in sorption maxima and 83% of P buffering indices. Allophane, Alo and Ald were positively correlated with P sorption maximum.  Contrary to general assumption that organic matter had an inverse relation with P sorption maxima, in this study, however, there was no trend observed between P sorption maxima and organic carbon.  Organic C has poor relationship with this parameter.  Andisols from Mt. Marapi and Mt. Pasaman need P input between 320 to 7,800 mg P kg-1 to maintain the P level in soil solution at 0.2 mg kg-1.

    PEMBENTUKAN ASAM HUMAT DAN FULVAT SELAMA PEMBUATAN KOMPOS JERAMI PADI

    Production of humic substances during the composting of organic matter becomes one criterion of compost quality. The objectives of this study were to measure and quantify the amounts of humic substances produced during the composting of rice straw by commercial decomposer, Effective Microorganism 4 (EM4). The experiment was carried out by using twenty kilograms of rice straw with C/N ratio 105 and containing 32.28% of cellulose and 4.48% lignin. The treatment essayed was the quantity EM4 applied i.e 10, 20, 30 ml and without inoculation as control. Experimental design used was Completely Randomized Design with three replications. Parameters observed are C/N ratio, humic acid, fulvic acid, and humification ratio.   The results clearly showed that the increase of EM4 applied was closely related with the sum of humic substances, humic acid, and fulvic acid produced. The significance results were observed after 60 days applying compost with 30 ml EM4. It could be concluded that the quantity of EM4 applied to determine the rate of compost maturity as indicated by the value of humification ratio, was significantly different. On the other hand, the low contents of lignin in rice straw might also determine humic and fulvic acid formation

    CHARACTERISTICS OF MECHANICALLY FRACTIONATED AGGREGATES OF TWO CONTRASTING SOILS

    oai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/1Tillage often decreases physical condition of agricultural land, especially aggregate degradation which causes land and environmental quality decreased.  As aggregates disperse into single particles, chemical properties of the soil could change.  The objective of this research was to study whether or not mechanical fractionation causes soil dispersion indicating by different chemical properties.  Aggregates of two soils, Vertisol and Oxisol, were degraded by using puddler at 3 different energy rates (40, 60, and 150 J kg-1 soil minute-1) and then were separated into 3 different sizes (2000-20, 20-2, <2 um).  Therefore, each soil sample would have 15 soil separates at different energy and aggregate size.  The result showed that aggregate fractionation especially the fraction size, in general, affected EC, ESP, and CEC but not pH of both soils.  The pattern of EC and CEC values seemed to be equal, the highest values were found at the smallest aggregate size (< 2 um).  The CEC values of Oxisols did not affected by fractionation, while CEC values of Vertisols increased by decreasing aggregate size, and decreased by increasing energy applied.  This indicated that Vertisol is easier to disperse than Oxisol

    The land suitability study for gambir crop  (Uncaria gambir, Roxb) in the buffer zone of the National Park of Kerinci Seblat (Taman Nasional Kerinci Seblat) at Salido Saribulan, sub district IV Jurai, Pesisir Selatan was investigated.  The objective of this study was to estimate the land suitability for gambir in Salido Saribulan.  The soils were sampled in composite ways for analyses in laboratory.  The results showed that according to climatic and physical land condition, the studied area was considered as class S1 (highly suitable).  However, based on land suitability class, it was grouped as S3f (marginally suitable with some constraints in  the availability of soil nutrients). We suggested that to increase gambir production in the studied area can be done by adding some fertilizers both organic and inorganic ones

    PENGARUH PEMBERIAN BAHAN HUMAT DARI EKSTRAK BATUBARA MUDA (Subbituminus) DAN PUPUK P TERHADAP SIFAT KIMIA ULTISOL SERTA PRODUKSI TANAMAN JAGUNG (Zea mays L.)

    The purpose of this research is to study interaction of humic substances extracted from subbituminus coal with P fertilizer on the chemical properties of Ultisol and crop production of corn (Zea mays L.). The experiment was designed in completely randomized design having 2 factors (4 x 4) with 3 replications. The first factor was dose of humic substances (A) which consists of 4 levels (A1 = 0 ppm, A2 = 400 ppm, A3 = 800 ppm, and A4 = 1200 ppm). The second factor was level of fertilizer P (B) (B1 = 100% recommendation, B2 = 75% recommendation, B3 = 50% recommendation, and B4 = 25%). The result showed that : 1) There is no interaction between humic substances and P fertilizer on the chemical nature of Ultisol and crop production of corn (Zea mays L.) 2) Use of humic substance for 800 ppm with some level of P fertilizer could improve some chemical properties of Ultisol such as decreased in content of Al-exch by 0,38 me/100 g soil, increased in P-available by 22,16 ppm, CEC by 8,42 me/100 g soil and P nutrient by 0,10 %, as well as corn yield by 25,67 g/pot compared to soil without humic substances 3) The use of SP-36 for 50 % with some level of humic substances increased in plant height by 26,58 cm, P nutrient by 0,11 %, and the use of 75 % SP-36 increased corn yield by 5,84 g/pot compared to 25% of P recommended.Keywords : humic subtances, subbituminus coal, P fertilizer

    Perbaikan Sifat Kimia Oxisol dengan Pemberian Bahan Humat dan Pupuk P untuk Meningkatkan Serapan Hara dan Produksi Tanaman Jagung (Zea mays, L.)

    A research was carried out at glass house and at Soil Laboratory of Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University Padang. The experiment was aimed to determine the interaction between humic material from compost and P fertilizer on some chemical properties of Oxisol, nutrient uptake and corn production. This experiment consisted of 2 factors (4 x 4) with three replications which were allocated in completely randomized design (CRD). The first factor was humic material having 4 doses (0, 400, 800, and 1200 ppm) and the 2nd factor was P fertilizer having 4 doses (100%, 75%, 50%, and 25% of recomendation (R)). The result showed that there was : 1) Interaction between humic materials and P fertilizer for the quality the corn seeds. Application of 800 ppm humic material improved the quality of the seeds even though at low level of P fertilizer. 2) Then, it also increased availability of P by 23.03 ppm, N total by 0.09 %, and decreased Al-exch by 0.53 me (100 g)-1 and Fe-exch by 25.62 ppm compared to threatment without application of humic material. Likewise, nutrients (N and P) uptake by plant also increased by 0.28 and 0.03 %, respectively. 3) Application of P fertilizer at 75 % R increased soil P availability by 3.77 ppm, N and P content of plant by 0.43 % and 0.06 %, and seed weight by 13.20 g and decreased Fe-exch by 21.16 ppm, compared to 25 % R of P fertilizer.Keywords : humic material, P- fertilizer, nutrient uptak

    ANALISIS SIFAT FISIKA ULTISOL TIGA TAHUN SETELAH PEMBERIAN BAHAN ORGANIK SEGAR DI DAERAH TROPIS BASAH SUMBAR

    Ultisols as a marginal land need to be reclaimed especially the soil aggregate stability (SAS) under wet tropical area. A research about application of 3 types of fresh organic matter (FOM): Gliricidia sepium dan Tithonia diversifolia) aiming to improve SAS was conducted in Ultisol Limau Manis, wet tropical area, West Sumatra. Fresh organic matter was added to soil at 3 different slope (3, 12, dan 25% slope) in early 2008, then the soil was planted by corn for 4 times until the end of 2009. Corn biomass was return to the land as mulch between crop rows every harversting. The land, then, was fallowed for 1 year (in 2010) before the soil was sampled in 2011 for the physical properties analyses. The results showed that soil organic matter (SOM) content, SAS, permeabilitas, and total pore at 0-20 cm soil depth from plots applied with FOM at all classes of slope were still higher than those control plots. From 3 FOM added, plot added with Tithonia diversifolia still showed better soil physical properties (SOM = 8.3%, SAS = 83). It means that FOM application on Ultisol under wet tropical raiforest still gave effect until 3 years after application.Key Words: Ultisol, stabilitas aggregat, bahan organik segar, bahan organik tana

    KERAGAMAN BAKTERI PENAMBAT N PADA RHIZOSFIR TITONIA (Tithonia diversifolia) YANG TUMBUH PADA TANAH MASAM ULTISOL

    Research on biodiversity of  N-fix bacteria was performed on rhizosphere  of Tithonia diversifolia grown at acid soil Ultisol. This study aimed to determine the biodiversity and populations of N-fix bacteria along with the growth rate of Tithonia and characterized the bacterial isolates obtained from the rhizosphere of this plant. Soil rhizosphere samples were taken from rhizospheres of Tithonia with different criteria of stem diameter i.e Ø <3 cm, and 3 to 6 cm that grown  at Faculty of Agriculture Andalas University experimental station.From these results it can be concluded that the diverse and larger population were  found in Tithonia with 3 to 6 cm stem diameter  an average of 19.7 x 103 cfu per g of soil. N-fix bacterial isolates obtained have a round, slimy, slippery and convex colonies and gram variable. Based on the color of their colonies, N-fix bacterial isolates obtained were classified into 3 groups with the following characteristics: (1) white milk isolates (A1ps, a2ps, B3ps), flourescent white and yellow, have flagella and produce auxin, (2) yellow isolate (B2K and B3K), with yellow flourescent, have flagella and produce auxin, and (3) the clear isolates that could separated into two groups i.e the flourescent group and produce auxin and has flagella isolates (A2b, A3b, and B2b) and non flourescent group, no flagella and does not produce auxin isolates (B1b, B3B). The optimum growth conditions for the all isolates were pH media nearly 7 with 35o C incubation temperature. The translucent isolates (A3b and B3B) have a optimum range pH from 4.36 to 6.17, while isolates with a yellow colonies (B2K) has a range of incubation temperature 25oC to 35oC. However, from the characterization performed could not permit to specify the isolates obtained into species.Key words : Biodiversity, N-fix bacteria, rhizosphere, Tithonia diversifoli

    Role of Gliricidia sepium in Improving Aggregate Stability of Ultisol Limau Manis Padang: A LABoratory study

    There is no much public concern about soil aggregate stability improvement of a soil.  This is due to the fact that it does not directly affect crop yield for a short term, but it determines sustainable agriculture and development for a long term.  This research was aimed to investigate soil physical properties especially soil aggregate stability of Ultisols after fresh OM application, then to determine the exact OM dosage to improve the stability.  Ultisols used was from Limau Manis (± 367 m asl), an area in lower footslope of Mount Gadut, having wet tropical rainforest. Due to land use change, farming activities in that sloping area could enhance erosion process in the environment.  Therefore, efforts to anticipate the erosion must be found.  Fresh OM applied was Gliricidia sepium which was found plenty in the area.  Five levels of fresh Gliricidia sepium, were 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 t/ha.  Top soil (0-20 cm depth) was mixed with OM, then incubated for 3 months in glasshouse.  The results after a 3-month incubation showed that SOM content did not statistically increase, but it improved based on the criteria, from very low to low level as OM was applied for ≥ 10 t/ha. It seemed that 10 t/ha Gliricidia sepium was the best dosage at this condition. There was a positive correlation between SOM content and aggregate stability index of Ultisols after fresh Gliricidia sepium addition.Keywords: Ultisols, soil aggregate stability, soil organic matter conten
