PENGARUH PEMBERIAN ABU SEKAM SEBAGAI SUMBER SILIKA (SI) BAGI PERTUMBUHAN DAN PRODUKSI TANAMAN PADI (Oriza sativa l.)
This research was conducted in greenhouse at Agriculture Faculty of Andalas University from August 2006 to February 2007.  The objective of the research was to study  the effect of fly ash as silicon (Si) resource for plant growth and rice production.  The experiment was designed on Completely Randomized Block Design in four treatments and three replicates.  The treatments consisted of without fly ash, 1400 kg/ha, 2800 kg/ha and 5600 kg/ha fly ash.  The results showed that fly ash could increase available fosfor, silica, cations and reduce Aluminium of the soil.  Fly ash could also increase production and absorbtion of fosfor and plant silicon.Key words :  Fly ash, silicon, and rice productio
PENGUNAAN ENDAPAN AIR GAMBUT SEBAGAI AMELIORAN ALTERNATIF TERHADAP BEBERAPA SIFAT KIMIA ULTISOL DAN HASIL TANAMAN JAGUNG SEMI (Zea mays L )
The main problems of Ultisols are high Al concentration, low pH, low cation exchangeable capacity (CEC), and low fertility.  The objectives of this reasearch were to study the effect of peat water deposit to some chemical properties of Ultisols and to determine the optimal level of peat water deposit for optimum corn yield.  The experimental design was the complete randomized design that consisted of 5 levels of peat water deposit (0, 800, 1600, 2400, and 3200 kg/ha).  The results showed that the application of peat water deposit could reduce exchangeable Al, increase CEC and soil P concentration, P-uptake, and corn yield.  The highest corn yield was obtained at application of 3200 kg peat water deposit /ha.Key Words : Ultisols, peat water precipitation, soil chemical characteristics, cor
DEGRADASI LAHAN PADA BERBAGAI TANAMAN PERKEBUNAN DI KABUPATEN DHARMASRAYA SUMATERA BARAT
A reseach about determination land degradation on several plantation ecosystems in Dharmasraya Regency, West Sumatra. This research was aimed to study types of perennial crops (trees) which contributes to alleviate land degradation. The work was conducted in Sungai Rumbai Dystrict, Dharmasraya regency and in Soil Science Laboratory, Agriculture Faculty Andalas University. Soil samplings were taken at Ultisols having 0-8% slope (flate-undulating). Land use type being considered was original forest, oil palm, rubber, coffee, and cocoa plantation. Composite soil samples were taken for four replications on 1-20 cm depth. At each sampling site was accompanied by five drilling soils. Then, four undisturbed soil was also sampled at the same depth with disturbed soil samples for determining soil bulk density values. The data collected were analyzed statistically by using analyses of variance, and then continued by using Least Significant Difference (LSD) at 5% level. The result showed that rubber and cacao plantation contributed to better soil ecology value than oil palm and coffee land use. It could be proved from organic carbon (OC) and bulk density (BV) of the soils which were alsmost the same as those from forest land use.

EFEK SISA KOMPOS SAMPAH KOTA DENGAN BERBAGAI TAKARAN PUPUK BUATAN TERHADAP PERUBAHAN BEBERAPA SIFAT KIMIA REGOSOL DAN PRODUKSI TANAMAN JAGUNG SEMI (Baby Corn)
A pot trial about residue effects of compost and commercial fertilizer on Chemical Characteristics of Regosol and Production of Baby Corn for the second planting time.  This research was conducted at Greenhouse of Agriculture Faculty and P3IN Laboratory, Andalas University from August to December 2006. Lettuce was the first plant planted on the pot, then it was continued with Baby Corn. This experiment was arranged based on 3x5 Factorial Randomized design with three replications. The first factor was compost; 0 ton/ha, 5 ton/ha, and 10 ton/ha. The second factor was commercial fertilizer: 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of recommendation. Based on the research, it was found that the residue of residue interaction with fertilizer influenced to the growth and yield of Baby Corn for the second planting time. From the statistical analysis of the result, it cwas concluded that 5 ton compost/ha (20g compost/pot) was able to increase the chemical charesteristics of Regosol, they were pH H2O, KTK, C-organic and N-total. Whereas for pH KCL, the available-P and basic cations, its valueable measure was started from 5 ton/ha ( 20g/pot). For the analysis of  plant in the concentration of  N and P, it was taken from the treatment of 4 ton/ha (40 g/pot) by using 100 % fertilizer.Key word : The Residue Effect of Manur
PENGKAJIAN PEMUPUKAN FOSFOR (P) DAN KALIUM (K) BERDASARKAN STATUS HARA PADA TANAH DI DAERAH PERTANAMAN JAGUNG DI KABUPATEN PASAMAN BARAT
Analysis of phosphorous (P) and potassium (K) fertilization based on soil P and K status at maize planting area in Pasaman Barat regency had done on October until December 2005. The research was conducted by using survey method.  The area was surveyed through some trails.  Soil samples were taken in every 500 – 1000 m in distance.  Global Position System (GPS) was used to determine the coordinates of sampling points.  In each point composite bulk soil samples were taken on the top 20 cm soil depth.  Each sample represented about 50 ha area.  The results showed that from 7702.2 ha area surveyed, there was 5351.5 ha (69.4%) of the area having high P content, 1487.5 Ha (19,3 %) having moderate P, and 863.2 Ha (11,2 %) having low P.  Potassium status of the soil in the area was as follows, 2798.4 Ha (36,3 %) having high K, 4499.4 Ha (58,4 %) having moderate K, and 404.4 Ha (5,2 %) having low K. The requirement of SP-36 fertilizer was about 90 kg/Ha, 250 kg/Ha and 500 kg/Ha, for soil having high P, moderate P, and low P content. Potassium was required about 0 kg KCl/Ha, 50 kg KCl/Ha and 250 kg KCl/Ha, for soil having high K, moderate K, and low K, respectively.  The both fertilization recommendation was the amount of SP36 and KCl to reach production about 4,5 ton dry weight corn kernel  (with water content 14%) or it is equal to 8 ton corn weight during harvesting time (with water content 25%).Key Words: P- soil status, K-soil status, fertilizer recommendatio
EFEK SISA ASAM HUMAT DARI KOMPOS ALANG-ALANG DAN PENGELOLAAN AIR DALAM MENGURANGI KELARUTAN BESI (FE) PADA TANAH SAWAH BUKAAN BARU
The research about residue effect of humic acid from imperata compost and water management to decrease the dissolved of iron (fe) on recently used ricefield had been conducted from march till august 2007.  The objective is to study residue effect of humic acidity aplication and water management to controlling Fe and to increase rice production on recently used ricefield.  The experiment using design factorial 2 x 4 with three replication wich is place as the split plot.  The major factor is water management consisted of two treatment, thos were continously flooded (P1) and flooded and dried (intermittence) with two week interval (P2). The minor factor are four level from residue effect of humic acid  (0, 200, 400, 600 ppm).  The result of this study can provided the information that residue effect of humic acid at 600 ppm can reduce solubility of Fe2+ from 327,91 to 37,53 ppm for continously flooded and from 173,51 to 38,13 ppm for intermitten flooded. And the yield of rice (dry weight of 1000 grain ad straw) increase as much as 4,9 and 5,38 g with residue effect of humic acid at 600 ppm combination with intermittence flooded.Key word : humic acid, iron, recently used ricefield, intermittence, flooded
KAJIAN SIFAT FISIKA EMPAT TANAH UTAMA DI SUMATERA BARAT
A research about soil physical study of four main soils found in West Sumatra was conducted in 2006. Â The research was aimed to determine some soil physical properties of four soil which are mostly found in West Sumatra. Â The four soil orders assessed were Ultisol from Agricultural Expreriment Station Limau Manis, Oxisol from Lubuk Minturun, Entisol from Tabing Kecamatan Koto Tangah Padang, dan Andisol from Bukik Gompong Kabupaten Solok. Â The result showed that at the depth of 0-20 cm soil profile. Â Ultisol and Oxisol had finer texture than those of Andisol and Entisol. Â Andisol was dominated by silt while Entisol was dominated by sand particles. Â Andisol had the lowest bulk density and the highest soil organic matter and total porosity. Â Soil Organic matter content of Entisol, Oxisol, and Ultisols was low in criteria. POTENSI SENYAWA ORGANIK TIDAK TER-ION DALAM MENGURANGI KELARUTAN BESI (FE) UNTUK MENINGKATKAN PRODUKTIFITAS TANAH SAWAH BUKAAN BARU
The research about potency of non-ionic organic compounds to decrease the dissolved iron (Fe) and to increase productivity of recently used ricefield had been conducted from August 2004 till January 2005. The objective was to study the effect of non-ionic organic compounds applied to control Fe and to increase rice production on recently used ricefield. The experiment used completely randomized design with four treatments and three replications. The treatments were consisted of four levels of non-ionic organic compounds (polysaccaride), those were 0, 75, 150, and 225 ppm. The result of this study showed that the effect of non ionic-organic compounds (polysacaride) at 225 ppm could reduce solubility of Fe2+ from 302,67 to 126,67 ppm for 30 days flooded. The yield of the rice (dry weight of grain and percentage filled out of grain) increased as much as 2,95 g dan 35 % with effect of polysaccaride at 225 ppm.

SISTEM USAHA TANI JAGUNG PADA GAWANG KELAPA
A research about integrated farming system research for maize among coconut trees was carried out in Tabek Panjang village, Lima Puluh Kota Regency. The objective of the research was to find out the best adaptation of maize variety, hybrid and high yielding of maize composite, combined with zero tillage technology. The data were analyzed by using comparative analysis approach between the improve technology in the technical work (productivity and economic cost, profitable and R/C ratio). The result showed that maize C9 hybrid gave the highest yield 7,34 ton/ha, maize C7 hybrid and Bisma varieties gave yields 6,84 ton/ha and 4,56 ton/ha, respectively. The farm operation analysis showed that maize C9 hybrid gave profit Rp 4,060,000 and R/C 2,24 , maize C7 hybrid Rp 3,561.000 and R/C 2,09 and maize Bisma variety Rp. 1,434,850 R/C ratio 1,46. In general, the result of the a study showed that land preparation with zero tillage system was better for maize C7 and C9 hybrids planted among coconut trees.

AKTIFITAS PEMUPUKAN FOSFOR (P) PADA LAHAN SAWAH DENGAN KANDUNGAN P-SEDANG
This experiment was conducted at famer’s field in Kasang, Padang Pariaman Regency from July to November 2000. The experiment was designed in a randomized block design (RBD) with the treatment was five levels of SP36 fertilizer ( 0, 50, 75, 100, and 125 Kg/ha) and P starter (20 kg SP36/ha) with three replications. The results showed that the plant height was not affected by application of P fertilizer. Increasing P application tended to increase yield of rice. Application of 125 Kg SP36/ha gave the highest grain yield 7,6 ton/ha.Keywords: Soil P-Status, Rice field, P-fertilize
